    Awesome!

Other than the J bolt, went on pretty straight forward. Looks better than I imagined it would and is barely noticeable while driving. No rattles, no shaking, solid mount.

I recently purchased the mirror relocation kit and moved my mirrors off the doors to the door frame just in-front of where they were. Will this jerry can mount work on my jeep now? Or will the mirrors be in the way?

If the try is 14x7 then a standard plastic 5 gal. fuel can which is 10x12 will not fit as shown in the picture. Is this correct????

    Anonymous

    • The tray is designed to fit standard jerry cans, NATO cans and Scepter cans. Many ammo cans will also fit. Some 5-gallon "consumer" gas cans may be larger than the standard listed cans above.

I was not expecting to be as pleased with this product as I was. Installation was an easy 3 bolts and that makes it easy to remove when not in use. No rattling issues as long as the strap is tight, but I was disappointed the plastic sceptor cans I had were too big, the metal army surplus can I had fit perfectly though.

      Side mount Jerry can holders.

The product is well designed and built. Mounts easy with three screws and no drilling unless you want the fourth screw for extra security. I didn't bother, it's stout. Easy to get off too. The mount and tray are separate pieces and the potential for putting other stuff on that mount are incredible. One slight issue I had was a Scepter Jerry can I bought at tractor supply. It wouldn't fit. The base of the can is wider than the top and wider than a standard Jerry can. The designer was very helpful. What it means when it says it fits Scepter cans is it fits the mil spec scepter cans, not the cheap consumer ones. I'll just get some metal cans. For me it was an inexpensive way to carry extra fuel. Otherwise I'd be looking at new rear bumper/tire carrier or rack and heavy duty hinge kit.

      Not the best fit.

My MORryde Side-Mount Tray was not the best fit. I had to add a 3/16" spacer at the windshield screw and hammer the lower bracket arm forward about 1/16" to stop it from rubbing against the door. It was not well packaged for shipping and arrived considerably beaten-up, with the coating knocked-off and bare metal showing in several places, with the pad for the bottom of the tray so torn-up that I couldn't use it, and missing one screw. Now that I have it spaced-out and hammered into shape, it works OK.

      Good concept...poor design

I had several issues with this mount. First the finish was chipped in a couple places. Second three of the four bolts that attach the Jerry can mount to the base seized up and had to be cut off. I bought new bolts from Lowes that worked. This mount is pretty simple to install and seems sturdy. The biggest problem is that it doesn't come with a lock. For the price it should be lockabale(without having to go buy a U-bolt and bicycle lock). I used a Smittybilt lockable Jerry can bracket to secure it. Just had to drill a few holes in the base. I think Morryde started to make a great product and then got lazy and skipped the locking part.

      It doesn’t fit well

My 2017 2-door Rubicon has very tight door gaps. The mount runs through the door gap. With lots of shimming and fidgeting, I managed a paper thin (literally) gap between the door and the mount. Still though, when weight is added, the mount flexes into the door. Bouncing down a dirt road will cause the mount to impact the door - NOT good. If your gaps are minimal at the front edge of your door - you might want to reconsider. I plan to use it... but monitor it closely!

      Cheers

      MORryde Side Mount Tray (Passenger)

I bought this item to carry a NATO Jerry can for extra gas. It utilizes a space on a Jeep JKU that is not used. The product is built and finished well and should be an excellent addition to any Jeep. BUT - installation and fitment for me were a major issue. First while assembling the tray to the backing plate one of the nylon lock nuts seized up 1/2 way on and I had to cut it off with a Dremel tool and go buy a replacement. Installation of the J-nut - removed every fender bolt as well as the one in the door jamb by the hinge and the fender does not move. Removed the windshield side brace and the hood side cowling also. Gently prying with a wooden rod to prevent bending the metal and using a screwdriver to force the J-nut in that step was completed. Touchup paint required to repair scratches. Ready to install the basket - top attachment points no problem but lower flange that mounts to the door hinge bolt was bent completely out of position (out of the box) After some gentle bending back into approximate position was able to attach it to the door hinge bolt and thought it was ready to go. No, the door would not close, hit the flange between the fender and the door. After multiple removal/re-installs and trying to get the flange to fit, finally determined the weld on the flange to the tray was too large and it was not going to fit. (this install with trips to the hardware store now has over 5 hours in it) One last removal, take it apart and repack in the box for return. Call Extreme Terrain and explain why I wanted to return and they tell me that I need to send a picture of the problem or they will not pay the freight to return. (would have to re-assemble and re-mount to take a picture) They finally accepted a picture of the tray flange with red paint scraped off of my door onto it and issued an RA# with freight paid.

      NOT WORTH THE PRICE!!!

Once I finally got the mount put on the car with a Jerry can in it, it looks badass and has great functionality. It's high grade welded steel and seems very sturdy. However, it came with the worst installation instructions I've ever seen. Not only are they not at all clear, but then there is an extra page that informs you there is no way of locking it, so they recommend you go spend more money on a U ring, some extra nuts, and a cheap bike lock. It was a frustrating process to finally get everything put together. And when installing it with these unclear directions, I did scratch the quarter panel pretty good. It looks cool on my jeep, but it's ABSOLUTELY NOT WORTH IT!!! $170 shipping the added cost of the lock.

MORryde side mount tray for JK

This tray is a convenient carrying device for jerry cans. Installation is straight forward, the only hard part I encountered was moving the fender slightly outward to install the j-nut. Grip pulling wasn't moving it enough so had to use a pry bar. Also had to pry the j-nut open a little to make it slide into the fender hole easier. The time to install was about 30 minutes. The tray dimensions are exactly 14" x 7" so be sure your jerry can doesn't have a welded seam the makes the can too wide to fit.

      jerry can doesn't fit

installation of the mount was not too bad. After removing the fender bolts to install the J-nut the fender would not budge with grip pulling, I had to use a pry bar to achieve the slightly increased gap needed. I was concerned about the metal-to-metal contact between the mount points against the jeep's body paint so I made some gaskets from a bicycle inner tube and punched holes where the bolts pass through. I opted to follow the instructions for installing a U-bolt on the mount to secure the can from theft. The suggested Stanly U-bolt is surprisingly not easily found. Including the U-bolt or giving the U-bolt dimensions would have been better. A 1/4" x 1" x 3" u-bolt from the big box store would not insert until I drilled out the existing holes with a 3/8" bit to increase their span. The u-bolt rise above the mount needed to be adjusted to 2" for the cable lock to pass through without interference. Then my biggest surprise was that NATO style Jerry Cans I had would not fit because of the side seam where the two halves were welded together; I tried to grind down the seam but that compromised the poor weld in places and created leak points. The tray is best used with smooth sided jerry cans that do not exceed the exact 14" width. I'm trying to find a jerry can that will fit and most on-line descriptions don't give the can dimensions, or, those that do are fractionally larger than 14". Extreme Terrain should sell cans that fit the mount's tray. Suggestions for the proper jerry can to use are welcomed.

      Solid mount

The packaging the mount arrived it was completely trashed; then I witnessed the UPS man throw the package from across his truck so I can’t fully blame the warehouse. It was packaged well with a ton of bubble wrap. The hardware is not the best, mine didn’t come with grade 8 bolts and I was able to snap one bolt with a 1/4” ratchet and a wench. Honestly I don’t think it requires anything stronger then what it comes with but if you’re expecting the best hardware, you’ll be disappointed. Removing three bolts from the fender and slightly pulling was the only reasonable way to slip the U Nut / Spring Nut under the metal. The self tapping screw seems completely pointless, it is less than an inch away from the U Nut location and it is going into thin sheet metal. I’m not an engineer so I did it anyway, but I really don’t think it added any strength to the design. It can easily hold 50lbs of fuel. The mount fit perfectly on a plastic 20L U.S. Military Jerry Can. It comes with foam and rubber bumpers so the can won’t rattle around, I highly recommend a plastic Jerry can over the metal ones so it doesn’t move or rattle. My mount came with pre-drilled holes for a CB radio antenna and the holes for a U- Bolt to lock the can in the mount. Overall, it did the job and looks good.

      A Suggestive Alternative

This side mounted tray is very east to install, it is of the best quality and a sturdy support for your "jerrycan", however because I am forgetful, I have lost the ratchet strap, because I accidentally drove off with it hanging. I searched and searched again to no avail. I therefore suggest to anyone who orders this product, to somehow firmly affix a temporary/permanent secure strap somehow on the outside bottom anchor. It is very convenient to just let the strap hang when you remove the can, however if your like me, and you just jump and run, you will loose this strap as I have already done. I have inquired as to if I can get it replaced. OTHER than that, this is an excellent product for your Jeep JK.

I mounted a NATO Jerry Can

I had this mounted in 20 minutes, taking my time. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. I highly recommend installing the self-tapping screw. My NATO jerry can protrudes slighty past the rear view when mounted. The driver's side rear view hits the jerry can when the door is opened to the stops. This is only a slight impingement, maybe 1/4", and the rear view deflects (rolls with the punch) and returns to true when the impingement is removed. I'm glad I got this. Well worth the money.

      Side mount jerry can trays

Straight forward installation and a precise fit (which is required given the tolerances). Mounts solid and holds the can firmly without rattles. I really like this mounting location, its centrally located on the JK, and doesn't weigh down the rear bumper etc. bought trays for both Driver and passenger sides, and very happy with the purchase and utility (10 extra gallons of gas) !!!

      Solid

The installation was simple and straight forward. It mounts up rock solid. It has carried a 20L Wavian can on two separate camping trips, the last was 10days on very rough and washboard roads. Tie down strap is solid and never loosened. I will be buying another for the drivers side.
