    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan with ExtremeTerrain.com and this is my review of the K&N Cold-Air Intake, available for all 2007-2016 JKs. When taking a look at these cold-air intakes, you have a couple of different ones to choose from. One is the 57-series which is a carb-exempt, 50-state legal intake, the 63 which is not legal in California but should give you a few more horsepower, and the 77 which is the aluminum version of the intake. A cold-air intake on a Jeep is for somebody who wants a little bit more sound out of their engine, who wants a little bit better throttle response, and possibly some increased miles per gallon. A cold-air intake is not going to provide a ton of horsepower gains on a Jeep just because the factory intake isn't that much of a bottleneck. However, a lot of people do feel a little bit of a power increase after installing something like this. It is important to note that when you install a cold-air intake on your Jeep, you do get rid of the factory air box, which can be a little bit detrimental if you're somebody who takes your Jeep off-road in wet conditions a lot. But, if you do decide to go with a cold-air intake on your Jeep, the K&N ones are a good way to go because they're moderately priced, and they all include K&N's famous reusable and washable filter. Depending on which series you choose, you're either gonna get a polyethylene or an aluminum air intake tube that's molded specifically to fit in your Jeep and designed to work with your factory vent and air sensor. You'll get a heat shield and all the brackets and hardware necessary to get everything installed, including a washable and reusable K&N air filter. Now, because this setup is designed specifically to bolt into your Jeep, it will be bolt-in. You won't have to cut or drill anything which makes the installation really easy. However, because of that, it's very important to make sure you get the one that's designed for your specific year because Jeep did change engines. Because this is designed to be completely bolt-in, the install becomes very easy. The first step in the process is to remove your factory intake tube and air box, then install the heat shield and all the brackets that come with this kit. From there, you'll install your air filter and, finally, your air tube. The whole installation should take about an hour and you won't need any specialty tools, just some hand tools. Now, there are a bunch of companies out there making cold-air intake setups very similar to this, and some of them are less expensive than this one. This does come with the washable and reusable filter which may be worth a couple more dollars to you. It really just comes down to your budget. If you want to get one of these setups that's similar, that costs a few dollars less, I think that it'll have the same effect on your Jeep as this one will. So if you're looking for some extra throttle response, a little more sound from under the hood of your Jeep or a few extra MPGs, a cold-air intake might be the way to go, especially if you're somebody who takes your Jeep off-road only where it's dry or stays out of the puddles. If you're looking for a cold-air intake and you want one that has a reusable filter, the K&N is a really nice option. So that's my review of the K&N Cold-Air Intake, available for all 2007-2016 JKs that you can find right here, at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Superior Performance. The K&N Series 63 AirCharger High Performance Cold Air Intake is made to provide your Jeep Wrangler with improved engine sound, better throttle response and guaranteed to provide horsepower gains.  You'll see an estimated 12.2 HP at 5600 RPMs, allowing you to maximize fuel without straining your wallet. Completed with a washable reusable performance filter you'll also cut out the costly expense of replacements. This intake features an air dam to assist in providing colder, denser air to your engine faster for effective power gains, whether you're on or off road.

Durable Construction. Designed to replace your standard factory intake, this kit features a polyethylene tube to provide the most air flow and keep it cool.  All the necessary hardware for installation is included in the kit, along with stainless steel clamps which won't rust out and accommodations for your mass air sensor.  This intake is finished with a large, 6 inch red cotton gauze filter, to provide superior filtration over your flat, factory air box, and is easily washed and reused for superior performance.

Installation and Warranty.  This kit is easily installed with common hand tools for a straight forward installation that generally takes 90 minutes or less. Backed by K&N's Million Mile Warranty, this cold air intake provides both you and your JK with unrivaled security and performance for years and the many miles to come.

Application. The Series 63 AirCharger High Performance Cold Air Intake is specifically designed to fit 2012-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK models with a 3.6L engine.

Please Note. This Cold Air Intake is not legal in the state of California or any other states which adhere to the same CA state emission standards.

Technical Note. The K&N Cold Air Intake is not designed for vehicles equipped with a Body Lift.

nay sayers indicate aftermarket intakes eat too much dirt, get hot, and are a waste of money ... as this is a 'cold air' intake.. but doesn't have a snorkel .. - how does it compare to stock as far as temps ? - I do a lot of desert riding and don't want my engine sucking any more dirt than stock .. what do I need to know about the differences here? - do I need a cleaning kit ? and how often should I clean it ? thanks 2017 JKWU

      boost your JK

Everything went very well with the installation, the only complaint would be, the screws/bolts are not labeled very well as to which to use and wear to use them. The diagram shows all of them but the packs are not labeled as to which is which. Quantities, size and make of the fasteners is similar that a novice might have issues with it. the fit was good, the sound is much better, definitely more pick up, throttle response is up and about 2 MPG better. My wife was drive down the interstate yesterday and had to punch to move around some traffic. A guy in a charger gave her a double take when she got on the throttle. When he pulled up beside her she said he gave me a thumbs up.

      Clean Look, Throaty Sound

New intake was super easy to install with just a couple tools. Only hiccup I encountered was accidentally pulling out the PVC tube out from behind the engine...that sucked so be carefull. The provided tubing was a very tight fit which led me to yank a little too hard..Otherwise everything else went smooth and i could not be happier with the new look and sound.

      2017 Sahara

My jeep runs great from factory , no complaints about how my jeep handles and drives. I bought this cool air intake hoping i might see a difference in pick up power. There is a slight difference (maybe). For the money worth id give the performance side of it about a 1star rating. As far as the sound, I could see where someone would like sound of it. But for me I actually like factory sound ( lack of sound) better than the new sound from this cool air intake. I had my hopes up too high for what the increase in performance. For me, I don't care for this product and feel that Any cool air take regardless of any manufacturer isn't worth money . Small to no difference in performance. I wouldn't get cool air intake without upgrading the exhaust also. But I had zero issues with the KandN cool air intake itself. It was shipped fast and quick. And everything fit correctly and took about 1 hr to instal for someone who knows what they are doing and 90 plus minutes for someone who doesn't. If you like raspy sound and want some noise from under hood when you accelerate then you might like this product!

      Cold Air Intake project

Soon after buying my Wrangler, I decided to upgrade the intake and muffler for a little performance gain and I have run KandN products on all my other cars for many years. The kit arrived and unfortunately was missing a mounting bracket. Of course I'm halfway through the install at this point so I had to improvise. Fit was a little tricky as the top lid covering the air filter required some "encouragement" to bolt on. Other than that, it was straight forward. Don't count on the improved HP or gas mileage claims. While you may see a small bump in HP, it is not significant enough to the point where you really feel it. Gas mileage may have actually gone down a bit as well.

It was a little tight installing but really was worth the throttle response . . . I've had KandN on my past 3 cars and loved it on all of them.

      Another happy K N customer!

Fairly easy to bolt on, took me about two hours. Sounds great in the mid RPM's when you punch it, and also have noticed a 1-1.5 MPG gain. Try not to make the mistake I did and put this on during the middle of Michigan winters lol

3 hours to install - horrible engineering

I’ve installed numerous KandN CAI kits in the past on other vehicles and this one was the worst engineered one I’ve ever had to deal with. 3 hours to put together what seemed like 200 pieces. The instructions are utterly useless as you have to constantly reference the exploded diagram to know what bolts, washers, etc to use at every step. The photos are useless. The build an airbox is a pain in the rear and has minimal engineering behind it as it requires small hands, lots of washers, etc. It is a joke of a design. Pony up the money KandN and get a molded box not the erector set box you have now. The vacuum hose is extremely stiff and difficult to install compared to the Mopar hose that was removed. If a friend asked for a reference, I’d tell them to look for a CAI that is easier to install than the KandN one. I can’t give a positive reference knowing how poorly engineered it realky is. I hope I sell my Jeep before I have to clean the filter. The screws for the heat shield are way too short for ease of removal and installation.

      Sounds MEAN

REALLY gives your engine the growl you want. Getting over 2500 RPMs and this baby starts to roar. I combined this with the Magnaflow axle-back dual tip exhaust. The combo sounds incredible. Install was easy. You can tell the jeep is able to breath better. For somebody who likes to get on the throttle like I do. The price is nothing after you hear it.

The power gains were noticeable after installation. The sound and power gains are well worth the low cost of the KandN Air Charger. I completed the installation in less than one hour due to great directions and parts that fit perfectly. A must purchase for any Jeep owner.

      Works

Performed fine. Easy to install. Had one on the (now retired) 04 Liberty. Everything just seems easier to do on a Wrangler(retired the 88 wrangler in 04). 45 minutes if you take your time to install and read directions. Noticeably better acceleration and gas mileage with a pleasant sound of extra power. Highly recommended, but should use recharge kit every 20,000k miles for best performance. Fit perfectly.

      Better MPG and power

My MPG went from 18 avg to 22. I drive 160 miles round trip to work on highway every day. Furthermore, throttle response greatly improved and power is better. Don't listen to the forum gurus who say intakes only sound good. My MPG increased by 4....dyno at shop I work at showed a gain of 10hp and 12 torque. To top it off, it sounds great when you drop the pedal. Running all stock except for lift and 35 inch tires.
