Hey guys, it's Eric with ExtremeTerrain. Today, we're checking out the Borla ATAK Axle-Back Exhaust with Black Ceramic Tips, fitting all 2018 and later JL Wranglers with the 2-Liter Turbo Engine. Now, you should really be checking this out if you wanna get the most out of your 2 liter's exhaust note and you wanna dress up the rear end with some dual exhaust styling as well. Now, after taking this kit out for a test drive, I would give this a solid four out of five on the loudness meter. I don't know what you would really have to do to get a five out five with a 2-liter turbo. You're only gonna get so much out of this exhaust, but I'll tell you what, Borla maximizes that. And so that's why I give it the four out of five rating. Now, for the most part, the engines that Jeep puts into their Wranglers, the 3.6-liter V6, and the 2-liter Turbo are pretty tame. They're not finely highly tuned performance engines. So you're only gonna get so much out of the exhaust, but I'll tell you what, to maximize that you should really check out this Borla ATAK, you're gonna get the most out of your exhaust note with this setup, that's because Borla puts of effort into engineering their mufflers, so that they're finely tuned to match the exhaust of the Jeep. And it's really gonna kind of bring on that aggressive throaty growl that you kind of want. And it's really satisfying both at the upper ends of the RPM range, as well as when you're kind of decelerating down to a stop. Now, along with that much-improved exhaust note, you're gonna get a lot nicer styling for the rear end of your Jeep. You have these two ceramic coated black tips here, given that that dual exhaust look gives it a little more aggressive, a little more sporty look, and overall, like I said, Borla really tunes their exhaust to match the vehicle that it's gonna be mounted on. And if you compare it to the factory muffler that you have back here, obviously, there's no style involved there whatsoever. And the muffler itself is at least twice as large as this kit that comes from Borla. So it's a lot more sound deadening material, a lot more back pressure on your engine. This is overall a much more free-flowing exhaust. So you're gonna get that better throttle response out of this kit as well.Made with quality stainless steel throughout, this kit comes in right around 850 bucks. And that definitely puts it in the premium category when it comes to axle-back exhausts for Jeeps. In fact, most other selections you'll see out there are quite a bit less. But you're really not gonna get that same sound quality that you're gonna get from this Borla ATAK unit. Now, as far as the installation goes, we're giving it an easy two out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter, almost a one out of three wrenches to be quite honest with you. But anytime you're working underneath your vehicle and jacking it up, you wanna make sure you're taking the appropriate precautions to safely do that and secure your vehicle before you crawl underneath and put your own safety at risk. So that kind of ups the ante just a little bit, but overall, it's pretty easy installation. There's just a couple of brackets you have to undo and the one clamp that connects this kit to the rest of the exhaust, and it's something you should easily be able to do in your driveway in about one hour or less. And compared to an overall exhaust system where you're removing the piping from the cat all the way back, this is a much easier installation. All right. So let's take a look at a couple of tools you're gonna need, and go ahead with the installation. All right, guys, tools you're gonna see in this installation include an electric impact wrench, an extension, a 15-millimeter and 1/2-inch sockets, a 13-millimeter ratcheting wrench or a 1/2-inch ratcheting wrench if you have one, and a hanger removal tool. All right, guys, now to get started, we have our Jeep up on a lift. Now, when it comes to doing aftermarket exhaust kits, an axle-back kit on a Jeep is one of the easiest you could possibly do. You could very easily do this in your own driveway. Just jacking up your Jeep a little bit and securing it with jack stands. We're only gonna be working from about here back just like the name suggests, axle-back. And we're gonna undo one clamp and then the brackets for our two hangers, one on each side. And that's pretty much it. We're gonna get this piece out and go from there. All right. First thing we're gonna do is loosen the clamp here. You're gonna need a 15-millimeter socket to do that. All right, guys, and what we're looking at here on the passenger side, this is a bracket that's holding the hanger to the frame rail. It's easier to remove this whole bracket from the frame rail than to try and pop the metal hanger out of the rubber isolator on Jeeps. So up here I got a 1/2-inch socket for this bolt that's tucked up way up high here. All right, guys, now we basically have a mirror image of the bolt we just removed over here on the driver side as well. It's tucked up way up high, probably hard for you to see. Again, gonna use a 1/2-inch socket and we're gonna back it out.All right, guys, now we're gonna do the second bolt for this bracket. We're here on the driver side still. I've got a ratcheting wrench here. This is really tight getting in here. You can probably get a small socket wrench in here too. Again, 1/2-inch will work. All right, guys, now we're gonna do this one here. This is the last bolt holding up our muffler here. So you wanna have it supported as you do this. Again, use a 1/2-inch. If you have a 13-millimeter socket, you could do that as well or a 1/2-inch will work. All right. And we'll just walk it off here. All right, guys, now we have the factory muffler off of our Jeep. I wanna put it on the floor here just do a real quick side-by-side comparison with our new Borla ATAK muffler. Now, obviously, the styling differences are huge. You're really taking from the factory it really has no style to it. It's all about function and just a basic muffler. Here with the Borla ATAK system, Borla is really known for premium quality exhaust sounds. Now, granted, we're talking about a 2-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine in this Jeep, so there's only so much you're gonna get out of your exhaust, but Borla makes the most of it. And obviously, it's more about styling as well. You're getting that nice dual exhaust and the nice kind of semi-gloss black finish to it, really dresses up the rear end of your Jeep. And if you have like black wheels like we do on our Jeep, it's gonna kind of complete that blacked-out look, gonna look really nice. Let's get it mounted up.All right, guys, now we're gonna transfer over the rubber isolator and bracket to our new muffler. So to get these off, you could use a large pair of pliers, or if you have a hanger removal tool like this, or if you know someone you can borrow one from, this tool makes this operation here a lot easier. And the last thing we need to do to get our muffler ready is to make sure you have your clamp preset on the pipe before you fit it up on there. All right, guys, now go ahead and get the pipe fitted up. Gonna get your bracket lined up back in here. Now to kind of help guide you there, there's this little hook, it wraps around this flange that's part of the frame rail like that there. You wanna make sure that slides up in there and then get a bolt started. Leave it a little bit loose for right now and we'll get the other side started. All right. Now we're gonna start the top bolt up here. Just get a couple threads in, then we'll tighten it down. And we're gonna start the other bolt up top here, get a couple threads in again, and I'll tighten it down. And again, using a 1/2-inch socket, go ahead and tighten it up. And we're gonna tighten these up as well. All right. The final thing we need to do is tighten up the clamp here. You're gonna need a 15-millimeter socket for that. All right. So that pretty much wraps up this review and install of this Borla ATAK Axle-Back Exhaust with Black Ceramic Tips, fitting all 2018 and later Jeep Wrangler JLs with the 2-Liter Turbo Engine. And, of course, for all things Wrangler, keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
