Review & Install Video
The Bestop bolt-on windshield channel for bikini and brief style tops is for those of you that have a 2007 to 2018 JK, that are looking to install one of those bikini or brief style tops from Bestop on your Jeep, and need a header to work with that style top. Now, this header is really nice because it attaches with these large thumbscrews. It doesn't require any hardware to get on and off, so it's going to be very, very easy to use. Definitely a one out of three wrenches for the installation, and I'm going to show you how to do that in just a second.
So, when you are buying one of those bikini or safari style tops, or as Bestop calls them, bikini or brief style tops, you are going to have to make sure you get a header with it. Most of those tops do not come with a header. They're sold separately for whatever reason. This header is going to work specifically with the Bestop tops. You can't really mix brands because of the way that the header attaches onto the top itself. This one is going to snap onto the top, so you need to make sure that the top has snaps sewn into it that are properly spaced. You also need to make sure that the pocket inside of the top will accept the header. So, again, just don't mix and match brands. If you're going with a Bestop top, get a Bestop header.
There are going to be a couple different choices of header. Some of them are going to bolt into place permanently, and then some of them you are going to be able to take on and off a lot easier. And as I already mentioned, this one's going to use these large thumbscrews to attach or take off of your windshield frame itself.
So, there's not a whole lot to say about this header. It's more of a functional piece than anything else. It's just going to work for you, holding the top of your bikini or brief top onto the top of the windshield frame like it's supposed to. It is a very well-built piece, like you would expect from Bestop, but again, not a lot that's really notable to say about this.
Now, you do need to work the price of your header into the price of running one of those bikini or brief style tops, and that's not just with Bestop, it's with all the brands out there. You might think, "Oh, this top's a great deal at..." whatever the cost might be, but not remember that you need to purchase one of these headers as well, and that can drastically increase the cost of running one of those tops. This header here is going to run you right around $70, and if you really like the Bestop top, this is going to be really the only choice for you. So, it's not really something where you can shop around too much. $70 doesn't seem like a crazy price to me. Again, this is a high-quality piece and it is going to work with that top seamlessly, but it is going to be an additional cost to running a brief or bikini style top from Bestop. This is very, very simple to get installed, one out of three wrenches. Let me show you how to do it.
So, like I said, this is going to be a very simple one out of three wrench installation. Of course, the first step is removing your hard top or your soft top off of your Jeep. Then, you're going to get your new bikini top or safari top attached onto your header. So, your top is going to have a pocket sewn into the front of it that your header is going to slide into. Now, when you flip it over, you'll see that there are some snaps here, and they're going to correspond to the snaps that are on the soft material of your top. So, you'll snap your top on there, and then the header and the top are one. From there, you'll just need to get the header attached onto the Jeep. And this really just sits in, pretty much, just one way on top of the header here. It pretty much locks itself in place. And then, you'll grab your thumbscrews and thread them into place. We're just going to kick the sun visor out of the way here. And you have your thumbscrew with the small bracket over top of it, and this is going to go on the inside of the footman loop that's attached to your windshield frame. That footman loop would normally be used to hold your soft top frame or your hard top in place. So, the threaded rod here goes to the inside of that and just threads right into the bottom of your header. You tighten it down, and that's really all there is to it. That's that. And we'll jump over to the other side and do the same thing. Once both of those thumbscrews are tightened down, you just need to install the rest of your safari top or bikini top, and you're done with the install.
So, if you are looking to run one of those Bestop bikini or brief style tops, this is going to be a great header option for you, and you can find it right here at extremeterrain.com.
