      Video Review & Installation

Hi, guys. So, today, we're checking out the Barricade Roof Rack Basket, fitting all 2018 and newer JL Wranglers with the OEM Hard Top. So, if you're in search of some extra storage and you're looking to maximize your storage for your Jeep, a roof rack basket is always a great solution for that, and this option by Barricade is going to be a great choice to take a look into. So, this is going to provide a large basket and large surface area for you to carry any additional cargo that you can't or don't want to put inside your cargo area, including coolers or any smaller cargo. Now, this is able to hold up to 150 pounds. So, I definitely would recommend this to somebody who's carrying any lighter cargo or smaller items that they don't want inside their cab area in comparison to some other options that are able to handle some larger cargo. Now, nonetheless, this is going to be very durable, made of a durable aluminum construction. It is going to be lighter weight for that factory hard top here, and it's going to have some high sides, so you can ensure that your cargo is going to stay in place and come with multiple tie-downs to, again, ensure that your cargo is not going to go anywhere when it's mounted in this basket. Not to mention, it is going to have a textured black powder coat finish on top to protect that aluminum underneath from any corrosion, but also to help with a heavy-duty and off-road aesthetic and match with any other heavy-duty accessories that you may already have on your JL.Now, what I do really like about this choice by Barricade is the fact that it is very small and compact while also still being very functional. So, it's gonna give a very sleek look to the top of your Wrangler. And it's also going to be very easy to install. So, this is going to attach to the rain gutter on either side, that's why it's made for the OEM hard top. And it's only going to be a small clamp. However, it is going to be strong and make sure that it stays in place. Now, this will be very easy to remove if you don't want to run this on your Wrangler all the time. If you want to take it off or put it on whenever you want to carry cargo, it is going to very easily come off by this clamp over here with one tool, making it very user-friendly and a no-fuss design. Now, with that being said, this is going to come in at roughly $550, which puts it at a pretty average price point for a roof rack on the page. Now, in comparison to some other choices on the page for roof racks, some other options may consist of crossbars instead of a basket design like this, and then some other options are usually going to be larger body-mounted options. Now, I personally think if you're not necessarily concerned about that larger cargo that other roof racks are able to handle, you're just looking for something sleek, compact, and able to carry some of the stuff that you really don't want inside your cab area, then this is going to be a great choice. Now, install, like I said, is going to be incredibly easy. I'm going to give it a one out of three on the difficulty meter, taking you about an hour to get this thing installed on your deep. So, speaking of the install, let's jump into that now. The tools that I used for my install were an impact wrench, 13-millimeter ratcheting wrench, a ratchet. 10-millimeter and 13-millimeter deep socket, and the provided Allen keys. So, to kick off this install, what we're going to do is assemble our basket first, and then we can attach it to our Wrangler. Now, you're going to have a front and a back piece. You're also going to have two side pieces, and then you're going to have three crossbars and then a front plate to help out with the aerodynamics and get rid of some of that whistling. So, what we're going to do is start with the front and the rear piece and one of our side pieces. We're going to kind of build it out from the side, I don't have a lot of table space here, but we're going to build it out from the side and then put on the other side piece once it is complete, then we can head over to the Jeep. So, what I'm going to start by doing is taking the front and the rear piece, kind of laying them out, and we can fit them together. So, this is going to kind of sit into itself. Then we can start to attach everything. So, we're going to have a large button head bolt, two flat washers, and a lock washer. This is what we're going to attach everything with on the sides. The ones without the nut on the back, those are going to be for the crossbars. As you can see, we have a nutsert there. So, that's going to be our attachment point for there. So, we're going to have a couple mounting points. We're going to have two at the top and the bottom, and then we're going to have two on the side here. And we're going to get everything threaded on. We're not going to tighten it down just yet. We want to make sure that all of our hardware is through. You can do the same thing for the back. So, now, we can go ahead and attach our crossbar. So, I did flip this over so you guys can have a better visual of what I'm doing underneath. Now, we're going to have three locations that we're going to mount this onto. So, I'm going to grab each of the crossbars, and we can start to mount them up. And we're going to have that button head bolt, lock washer, and flat washer, and we can just thread those into place. So, at this point, now that we've built out most of the side, what we can do is attach the other side, just like we did with this side over here, and then we can tighten everything down. Now, at this point, we can take the other side, making sure that those crossbars are in, and we can kind of fit this into place. It should pretty much stay in place once it's here. We can start to secure down this side exactly like we did with the other side. I'm actually going to start with the crossbars, just so it will stay in place for the most part. So, at this point, we can tighten everything down. For the crossbars, we're going to use the provided Allen key and then for the outer sections, I'm going to still use that provided Allen key, but I'm also going to use a 13-millimeter wrench. I'm going to start on the outside here. Now, while we're here, we can also tighten down the crossbars. We don't need the wrench for that. And then we can flip this around and do the same thing on the other side. So, once everything is tightened down, what we can do is flip this back over and attach our wind deflector on the front of our basket. So, we're going to have multiple mounting points on the front. What we can do is line them up, and we can grab our provided hardware. This is going to be the smaller button head bolt, the captured flat washer, and lock washer, and then we're also going to have a flat washer and a nut for the back. I'm just going to start in the middle and work my way out. And just like the other stuff, I'm not gonna tighten anything down just yet. I want to make sure everything is in and secure before we tighten anything up. All right. So, after everything is hand threaded on, what we can do is take a 10-millimeter deep socket and the provided smaller Allen key, and we can go ahead and tighten those up.So, after everything is finished with our basket, we can go ahead and put together our clamps, so we can get this on our Jeep. What we can do at this point is start to install our brackets. We're going to have a large piece that's going to sit in our rain gutter channel there, and then we're going to have the clamp part that we're going to put on the outside, and there's going to be a set of bolts. You're going to need the bolts with the captured washers, lock washers, and then you're also going to need a nylon lock nut and a washer out of the hardware kit. And we can go ahead and secure this. Once this is on, then we can grab our basket and secure it down in place and tighten everything up.So, our first step is just to lay this bracket in the gutter. Now, I'm going to leave it loose just because we are going to adjust this after the fact to make sure that our basket lines up, where we're going to take the threaded part, making sure that this clamp part is facing the inside so it clamps that gutter there, and we can thread the bolts with the captured hardware into the bracket or the mount. Then we can take our provided flat washer and nylon lock that, and we can secure that into place. Now, again, I want to be able to move this on the channel so once we get the basket up here, we can adjust for everything. So I'm going to leave it like this, and we can repeat that for the other three brackets. At this point, we can grab a friend, and we can lift up our basket and place it on top of the mounts. So, next, we can take our bolts, flat washers, and nylon lock nut and secure this through the channel in the bottom of our rack to our bracket. Now, there's going to be two for each of the brackets. And again, I want to make sure that everything's evenly adjusted before we go ahead and tighten anything down. So, after we have everything secured, now we can go back and tighten everything down. So, what we can do now is start to tighten up our clamp and tighten up where the mount sits with the basket. I'm going to start with the clamp side using a 13-millimeter deep socket. Now, once that's on there, what we can do is take a 13-millimeter socket and a 13-millimeter wrench and tighten up the bolts that are holding the bracket to the mount. Now, we can repeat that for the other three mounts. So, once everything is tightened up, then you're all set to go.So, that's gonna wrap it up for my review and install.
