Budget Bumper Meets Expectations
The Barricade HD Front Bumper arrived very well packaged. Covered with copious amounts of bubble wrap and secured with foam ends, short of a fork-lift puncturing the box, this thing was not getting messed up in shipping. Upon opening the box, I found the mounting hardware in one separate internal box, and the LED light bar in another. Instructions were basic and relatively straight forward.
After removing the OEM plastic bumper, installation was a breeze. The stiff plastic "holders" that are supposed to keep the bolts in place while aligning the bumper to the frame could have been a little more substantial, or the design could be revised, but overall this is a budget-friendly bumper and concessions must be made somewhere. It helps to have a 2nd set of hands assist you with aligning the bolts to the frame. It can be done single-handedly, but it's awkward, and helps to have one person hold the bumper in place while a 2nd person is under the Jeep to secure the nuts and lock washers.
The fit and finish is pretty good for a >$400 bumper. There were a few sharp burrs that I filed off and touched up with black paint, but again, this is to be expected and didn't bother me.
What I DO wish this included was more instructions on how to mount the light bar to the integrated mounting bracket. I mean, it should be obvious, but there is a bag of bolts, nuts, and washers, as well as some brackets, that I have no idea what they are all to be used for. I eventually figured out which are the correct bolts (several thread into the light, but there a few different lengths) but I have a lot of extra parts, with no obvious use for them.
I also wish there was a better was to route the wiring from the light bar. Even if just a welded on nut behind the light bar bracket in which to secure a zip-tie, but instead you see the wire dangling. I'll come up with something on my own, but wanted to mention it to future buyers.
Overall, this bumper met all of my expectations. I knew it wasn't going to be as perfect as an $800 bumper and actually expected a more difficult installation, but it was pretty simple and I highly recommend this product. It looks better than most bumpers out there and I really like the included and integrated light bar.
