Will this fit on a spare tire that is a 12.5" wide on a wheel with 3.75" back spacing, or is the mount too short?

    StevenV

    • MORryde does not list a maximum backspacing for install of their MORryde Spare Tire Jerry Can Holder w/ Tall Tray, 3.75" of backspacing should be fine!

Is there a way to LOCK the Jerry Can to the mount? The strap is nice but it looks like someone could easily cut the nylon strap and walk away with the can full of expensive fuel. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks!

    ChristopherS

    • The MORryde Spare Tire Jerry Can Holder will secure the can with a strap, so to lock this down, you would need to replace the strap with a locking variant.

Review from MORryde Spare Tire Jerry Can Holder w/ Tall Tray (87-18 Wrangler YJ, TJ, JK & JL)

      Great Quality, Looks Fantastic

So far it's been great! The quality of the material and the workmanship, including the welds, seems to be top notch. I've heard concerns of the carrier failing with the weight of a full can, and the constant bouncing of a trail; however I don't see that being a concern. I guess only time will tell. I am currently running a wheel with 3.75" backspacing and a 35x12.5 General Grabber AT2 as my spare and the fuel can barely fits on there. Anything more than that and I don't think it would work.

i like it, it is lite weight but strong enough for the trails, "does not bonce around" and it's always good to have a little back up fuel. i plan on getting more for fuel and water

Review from MORryde Spare Tire Jerry Can Holder w/ Tall Tray (87-18 Wrangler YJ, TJ, JK & JL)

      Generally okay

The installation went well until I found that the 1/2" bolt provided to attach the tray did not fit the threads on the adapter. I couldn't find a bolt in my workshop with the right threads, so I used a smaller bolt and ran it all the way through the adapter. I'll need to keep wrenches in my jeep to remove the tray if I need to change a tire because my lug wrench will not fit the bolt. Also, I bought a plastic Jerry can to reduce weight, but it was too large for the tray. I switched to a metal Jerry Can and it fit. I've been out in the boonies elk hunting and the tray performed very well. It's much better than keeping a smelly gas can in the back of my Jeep.

Review from MORryde Spare Tire Jerry Can Holder w/ Tall Tray (87-18 Wrangler YJ, TJ, JK & JL)

      finish work still required.

The mounting of the bracket and tray was extremely easy. The only problem encountered was the sleeve that held the tray on the mounting arm still had a large amount of weld residue still in the sleeve. I had to use a Dremel to grind down the left over weld material to allow the sleeve of the tray to slide onto the arm. Once it was ground down it fit great.

      works great

it works great, but it came with the wrong screws to hold the tray to the bar. i had to go to the hardware store to pick up some nuts and a new bolt to hold it in place but otherwise it works great.

Spare tire Jerry can holder w/Tall Tray.

Got this out of stock item today. Set up to mount holder to spare tire mount, and 1/2 "bolt provided is way to large for pre drilledandtaped hole. Found out hole is threaded for metric bolt not standard. Plus tray holder is crooked. Returning, not replacing.... boo

      Works after trip to store

Well built and solid, but the 1/2 inch bolt to connect the shelf to the mount does not even come close to fitting. I tried metric but no go. I finally used a 3/8 inch bolt, nut and washers to connect the two together. Also, my jerry can would not fit as it's the type with the outside weld. The manufacturer could have made the mounting shelf 1/2 inch wider to accommodate ALL jerry cans so right now it is unusable until I get another can that fits. It would be nice if that fact was in the product description.

      Spare tire jerry can holder

Not really happy with the quality of the item. Was shipped with a 1/2 inch bolt to attach tray unit with the arm portion. The threaded hole for that bolt was not 1/2 inch, it was actually 3/8 inch. Also, the carrier still moves back and forth, so not very tight. Additionally, the arm that is secured behind the spare tire has a raised, welded circular piece that takes away space for your spare tire to be as secure as it's supposed to be. IMO, not very good quality for $135.

Review from MORryde Spare Tire Jerry Can Holder w/ Tall Tray (87-18 Wrangler YJ, TJ, JK & JL)

      Smart design

Very smart design for carrying a jerry can on the tailgate. Everything is built to fit a Wrangler and the stock tools. The bolts are exactly the size of the tire iron and the tray is built so it fits over it exactly. Easy to install and very, very sturdy. I have backed into at least two cement posts and it damaged the post more than the tray both times.

      Zero Stars!

This jerry can holder is complete junk. On my first off-road trip with a full jerry can, I glanced in the rear view mirror after 4 miles and something was missing! One skimpy weld is not enough to support this load. Nice idea, but very poorly designed. Please remove me from your mailing list.

      Twice the weld has failed

Purchased this Jerry can carrier back in 2015 and twice the weld on the mount plate failed. The first time weld cracked it was carrying a full 5 gallons on my daily commute. The second time it failed, it was only carrying 2.5 gallons. Both times the welds failed in less than a year. It seems the weld cannot take the weight of the Jerry can and fuel. If you purchase this, I would recommend only carrying fuel sparingly.

MORryde Spare Tire Jerry Can Holder

When at first I installed this part it seemed the jerry can would not fit :( But it went in quite handily with a little firm pressure. I am in Canada. Here the jerry can is 20 liters, about 5.3 gallons. So the can is a bit bigger than the 5 USA gallon can. No trouble at all. I can just barely see a wee bit of it sticking up above my 32.7" spare tire It not only works well but it looks good back there :)
