      Video Review & Installation

Hey, what's up, guys. Ryan here from ExtremeTerrain. Today, I'll be reviewing and installing the Barricade Extreme HD Full Width Front Bumper with LED Lights, fitting your 2018 and up Jeep Wrangler JL. This is gonna be for the JL owner that's looking for a unique and aggressive front bumper to upgrade their off-roading rig with. If you're looking to maintain that full front-end protection flare to flare while gaining some additional clearance, you should be checking out this bumper from Barricade. This bumper is gonna add a ton of functionality to your front end. The brush guard is gonna provide plenty of protection for your grille and even has tabs to mount additional lighting. This bumper also allows the addition of a winch and even comes with D-rings. Is a high clearance bumper with high-cut ends giving you better approach angles, ultimately increasing the capability of your Wrangler. This bumper comes with brand new LED fog lights and everything to wire them up, and it's a very easy bolt-on that reuses factory mounting points, so there's no drilling or modification required to install. And as far as price goes, this is reasonably priced when compared to other options of the same construction and design at just around $500. Now as far as installation goes, I'm gonna give this a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter as you can get this installed in about two hours just using basic hand tools. Now, with that being said, let's hop into the install. Tools we used for this install: 3/8 drive impact, 3/8 drive ratchet, 1/4-inch drive ratchet, prying tool, flat-head screwdriver, provided Allen key, 8-millimeter socket, 7-millimeter socket, 16-millimeter socket, 18-millimeter socket, 3/8 drive socket extension, 7-millimeter wrench, 13-millimeter wrench, and a 14-millimeter wrench. So the first thing, of course, is to get that front bumper off. So we're gonna start with the splash shield underneath. You need a flat-head screwdriver and an 8-millimeter socket. You wanna crawl underneath and start with it. So we're gonna have a series of push pins across the front where the splash shield connects to the bumper. Gonna use a flat-head screwdriver just to pry up on that center section. And that's gonna allow you to get that clip out. So next you're gonna have two screws. You're gonna have one on each side. We're gonna use an 8-millimeter socket to get the screws out. Once you get that last screw out, you're ready to remove your splash shield. The next thing we're gonna do is take this bracket off down here. You're gonna have two bolts in it. We're gonna use a 16-millimeter socket, take that off. Once you get the bolt out, you can slide this up and slide it up and off. The next thing we gonna do is take this end panel off. This is covering our fog light. This isn't a necessary step to get this bumper removed, but we're gonna remove it so you can get a better look at the nuts that were taken off on the frame rail. So to do this, we're gonna use a flat-head screwdriver, we're gonna take these push pins out. Now, depending on your model, you may have a different bumper end and this might have screws in it that you'll need a 7-millimeter socket for.The next we're gonna do is unplug our fog light harness and our frame rail on the passenger side. What we're gonna do is press this little tab in here on the side of it, and that's gonna allow us to disconnect our fog lights. After we do that, we're gonna unbolt our bumper. So you're gonna have eight nuts, four on each frame rail. We're gonna use an 18-millimeter socket to get all those out. So on this side, we already have our plastic shield off. So we're just gonna go ahead and get these nuts off.So after that, we're gonna go back up top. We're gonna take these last two push pins out. You're gonna have one on top of each frame rail. Same thing, we're gonna use a flat-head screwdriver to take these out, pry up on the center. That's gonna allow you to pull the whole thing out. After that, you're ready to take your bumper off.So the nice thing about our new bumper is it comes with brand new fog lights. However, we need to get the harness out of this bumper. So we need to take all the screws out, split this case open, and get the harness out. There's a couple of things that we need to take off. And as you can see, we already pulled our end caps off. So if you have not pulled your end caps off yet, you can use a flat-head screwdriver to take the push pins out. However, some models have a different end cap. This is gonna utilize screws and you'll need a 7 or an 8-millimeter socket to pull the screws out and take that off. That way, you can get underneath it there, you can unplug the fog lights. So we already got our end caps off. Next thing we're gonna do is take this little plastic piece off. And the same thing, we're gonna use a flat-head screwdriver to get all these push pins off. So let's get started. So we'll use our flat-head screwdriver, pry up that center pin right there, and then we'll pull the whole push pin out. The reason we're taking this cover off is because we have some screws underneath of here that we need to access to split this case. Get this last push pin off, then we pull this aside, set it aside, and start to take this case apart. So now we have that top section out, the frame cover out. You can see that we have a ton of screws all around this thing. We have a bunch on the bottom as well. So we're gonna go around with a 7-millimeter socket. We're gonna take all those out and then we'll unplug our fog lights. Then we'll try to pull this case apart. Then we'll go across the bottom of our bumper, pull these screws out. Looks like we're missing one there, but that should do it for all the screws. So to unplug these fog lights, you're gonna have a little tab on the side. We're just gonna press that in, pull that up. That's gonna disconnect them. Also need to free this up from the bumper. So we can just get right underneath of that. Same thing on the other side, find the tab. Press the tab in, unplug that. Then we need to free it up from our bumper. And these things can be a real pain to get out. So like I said, the next thing we're gonna do is pull the case apart. You might want to grab a friend because this is a pretty tricky process. What we're gonna do is just pull down on this outer shell and try to lift this inner shell up. You also need to work these tow hooks out as well. All right. So after that, we can set this aside. Then you can see, this is the front of our bumper. We need to get this harness out and it's attached to multiple spots. So what we'll do is just flip this thing over, then we'll take that same tool that we used and we'll try to pry all this out. So we're gonna pull this end through, try to get this plug out, then we'll just work our way down. So you need to get underneath of these little collars and then pry them up and out. After we get this last section out, we can fish the rest of this through, and then we can ditch this factory bumper, but keep the harness. So I threw this bumper back together, but at this point in time, we're all done with it. So we're gonna switch it out for the other one.And now to go grab our fog lights. So to get the fog lights installed, we're gonna have these brackets. These brackets are going to attach to the ends here. Then, of course, we're gonna have to source all that hardware out of the bag that we get to bolt these brackets on. And then these lights are gonna bolt to the bracket. So we're gonna start with the brackets. Let's get started. So the first thing you need to do is open up your hardware packet and find the smallest hardware in the kit. We're gonna have these little tiny bolts with an Allen head. Each one is gonna get a flat washer. We're gonna place this bracket up here with this mount for the light facing in, and then we're just gonna go through these holes. On the backside, we'll do another flat washer, we'll do a lock washer, and then a little tiny nut.I am pushing the nut up with my finger and holding it still while I take this and spin it to get it to thread into the nut. Makes it a lot easier than trying to get back there and thread the nut on. So the next thing we're gonna do is tighten all of these up. So you're gonna need a 7-millimeter wrench. And we're gonna use the provided Allen key, and then we'll just tighten all these up. Then we can get our light installed. So you're gonna get one of these bolts. We're gonna have two flat washers and a nylock nut. So what we're gonna do is just take our light, we'll place a flat washer on one of the bolts, then we'll slide that through here. Put another flat washer on there, and then we'll put this nut on. So what you're gonna do is put the washers on the outside of the bracket while the actual light goes on the inside. So to tighten this up, we're gonna use a 14-millimeter socket for the bolt head, we're gonna use a 13-millimeter socket for the nut. Once we get it pretty tight, then you can take this. Kinda get it where you want it to sit. And then we'll tighten it the rest of the way down. Now you wanna tighten this down until this light doesn't move anymore because we don't want them to move backwards while we're driving. They won't shine through the bumper. So after you do that, we can do the same thing on the other side.So we got our new fog lights in the bumper. We got the bumper assembled. We also got the harness out of our factory bumper, and we're just about ready to install this new bumper. But before we do that, wanna take a moment just to talk about some of the differences between an aftermarket bumper, such as this, and your factory bumper, and also some of the benefits and features that you're gonna get with this bumper. Now, the first thing I wanna talk about is your factory bumper. Some of the nice things about your factory bumper, it has tow hooks, it already has fog lights in it if you have fog light option, and, of course, it's a full-width bumper. So you're gonna get that flare to flare protection, which is really nice because it's gonna protect the whole front end. Now structure-wise, it's not a very solid bumper, it's made of plastic. Aesthetically, it's a pretty good-looking bumper, but if you're looking to upgrade for a stronger, more functional unit, and, of course, get a little more clearance for those tough trails, then you wanna go with an aftermarket options such as this.Barricade makes a very affordable and unique option. So what you're getting with this bumper is you're getting a heavy-duty steel bumper made of heavy-duty steel plating and tubing. Now, this is still a full-width bumper, so you're gonna get that flare to flare protection, but you're also gonna get a lot more clearance on the ends, as you can see with these high-cut ends. So ultimately, what this is gonna do is increase the capability of your Jeep up front. So you're gonna get more clearance up there. You're also gonna get better approach angles for when you wanna drive that wheel up on an obstacle while you're on the trails. Now, another nice thing about this bumper is it comes with its own fog light. So we don't have to switch the factory fog lights out, and we're not losing fog lights at all. We're getting a brand new set of high-powered LEDs, and also they are plug and play, which is a really nice feature. Now, unlike your factory bumper, this bumper is gonna allow you to mount a winch. You are able to mount a variety of winches up to 12,000 pounds. And this is a great option to have if you like to venture out on those trails. This is great for whether you are solo riding or if you're riding with a group. Built-in winch plate that's welded in, very strong, and also has a fairlead mount up front, and this is a low rise winch plate, which is gonna keep that winch sunk down and it's not gonna reduce any airflow up front when you're on the trails or driving down the highway. This also has light tabs up top that's gonna allow you to mount even more lighting, and this is gonna be great increasing your nighttime visibility. Now your factory bumper has tow hooks. And while this is a pretty good pulling point, whether you're pulling someone out or you're getting pulled out, you can hook a tow strap or a tow rope in there. However, while you're tugging on someone, they have a tendency to slip out of there. This new bumper comes complete with welded D-ring mounts and D-rings that's gonna allow you to lock that tow strap or tow rope in there and give you a really solid pulling point. This bumper is a direct bolt-on, it comes with brand new hardware, and the whole thing is finished off with a textured black powder coating that's gonna give you a very aggressive styling, increase the look of your Jeep, great way to change it up, and also give it that rugged off-roading look. So with that being said, let's show you how this gets installed and what it looks like on the Jeep.So at this point in time, all we have to do is pick this bumper up and get it put on. Now on the backside of this bumper, there's gonna be four studs, there's two on each side, we need to fit those through the frame rails. This is a pretty large and heavy item. So you wanna get someone to help you out. You also want to get all of that hardware ready. That way you're ready to install it and secure that bumper once it's up on there. So after you get this thing on and before we crawl underneath of the bumper and get some of that hardware installed, we actually have two nice openings on the inside. These openings are gonna have threaded holes. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna take the bolts that they provide us with. Each bolt is going to get a lock washer and a flat washer, then we're gonna get those in. And then after we get those in, we're gonna crawl underneath to get the other stuff installed. So it looks like these bolts are a little too short with this extra support bracket here. So what we're gonna do is remove these brackets. You have this bolt right here, use a 16-millimeter socket to take this bolt out or just loosen it up. We'll pull this bracket off, get these bolts installed. Loosen that up. You can slide the bracket up and off. Like I said, you can either tighten this bolt up and then leave it in there, or you can pull the bolt completely out. Once we get that bracket off, we'll go ahead and thread these bolts in, get those started, and then we'll do the same thing for that other side. So after you get those installed, we'll go ahead and tighten these up. So we'll use a 16-millimeter socket to tighten them up.So, we'll crawl underneath of the Jeep, get this outside hardware installed. You're gonna have studs poking through. Each one is going to get a flat washer, a lock washer, and then a nut. After that, we can tighten them up. We're gonna use that same 16-millimeter socket. So then we'll do the same thing for the other side.At this point in time, we have the bumper installed, it's time to wire up our lights. So I'm gonna explain some of the pieces that you're gonna get with this kit. Now, each one of these lights is gonna get its own separate relay. This really has two ends. There's this plug that's gonna go into the lights that we have in the bumper. And this end is gonna connect into our adapter. Now we're dealing with a JL. So we're gonna use these square adapters that we get with the kit, and what we're gonna do is plug these ends in. Now I have the factory harness here and this other end of the plug is gonna fit in here. So what we're gonna do right now is we're gonna take the far end. We don't want the side with the plug, that's for the passenger side and we're working on the driver side right now. So we're gonna take that far side and we're gonna click it in. We're gonna take both of these and match them up to what is already on the relay. So black is gonna go to black. We'll push both of those terminals together. Red is gonna go to red. Same thing, connect those. And then we'll go over here, we'll plug this end into our light. So then we'll take this end, we'll plug it into our light. Wanna make sure that that goes all the way in there and clicks. And then, of course, you can mount this relay. Now, you can zip tie this wiring underneath or mount it wherever you would like. And we're gonna go over the other side, do the same thing, plug all that stuff together. After that, we can take our plug to our main harness and we have our other plug right here. So we'll just go underneath of the bumper and we'll plug that in.So like I said, once you get all of that wired up, you wanna mount those relay somewhere and wire up all that excess wiring. However, that's gonna wrap up my review and install. For more videos and products like this, check us out at extremeterrain.com.
