      Video Review & Installation

Hey, guys. So, today, we're checking out the Axial LED Fog Lights, fitting all 2007 to 2018 JK Wranglers. So, adding a set of fog lights or LED lighting to your Wrangler can make the world of difference between styling and lighting performance. And this option by Axial is going to be one of your most affordable options to do so. Now this is going to be great for you JK owners out there who have damaged a fog light out on the trail and are looking for an overall replacement, you're looking for some better lighting performance and better visibility at night, or if you've added a set of LED headlights to your Wrangler and you're looking to match with a set of fog lights. These fog lights are going to do a great job at cleaning up the aesthetic of the front end of your Wrangler, considering you're getting a daytime running light or accent light, the black housing is going to look very sleek and stealthy, and you're also getting a bright white color temperature, making it look very modernized compared to those factory halogens. These are also going to do a good job at holding their own while you're out on the trail, considering that this is going to have a very sturdy housing so you really won't have to worry about any branches or brush when it hits your front bumper. With all that being said, these are going to come in at roughly $90, making these one of your most affordable options for LED fog lights on the category page. Now, my personal opinion, I think that's set at a very good price point for what you're getting. These are simplistic and not over-the-top, but you're also getting some high-performing LEDs and a lot of styling in the meantime. Now, when you're taking a look at some other options on the category page, you may see some other choices for LED fog lights that are a little bit more expensive. Those are usually going to have some accent lighting with other features like color features or RGB technology. You may see some more intricate designs or they may just have a stronger housing. Again, you will have to pay for those extra bells and whistles if you're looking for something a little bit more in-depth. However, if you're looking for something simple, that's going to do a great job at giving you some styling and lighting performance at affordable price, then this is going to be a great choice to take a look into. Not to mention they are incredibly easy to install and it comes with everything right out of the box. I'm going to give it a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. There is a little bit of wiring, but it is very simple to get the job done in about an hour with some very basic hand tools. So, speaking of that install, let's jump into that now. The tools that I used for my install were a pair of wire cutters, strippers, and crimpers, a pair of pliers, an 18-millimeter deep socket, a Phillips head screwdriver, 3/8-inch drive ratchet, and an impact wrench. To kick off our install, we want to make sure that we have access to our fog lights. On some of your bumpers at home, you may have an upper splash guard as well as a lower splash guard. You're going to need a trim removal tool or a pop clip removal tool in order to take those off, and then you'll have access to the back of your fog lights. Now, we don't have those on because we take our bumper off a lot. What we're going to do is go behind our bumper and just unplug the two connectors that are in our fog lights. So, right on the back, you'll have a connector. All you have to do is press down on that tab and pull back. We can go ahead and tuck the connector in the frame, get it out of the way. So, to give you guys a better visual, I'm going to go ahead and take the bumper off by removing the nuts on the studs holding on our bumper. Now you can access the fog lights with the bumper on, but I want to give you guys a better look at what I'm doing. So, I'm going to take an 18-millimeter socket and remove that hardware. All right. Now, that all the hardware's off, we can go ahead and remove our bumper. What we're going to do now is remove our fog lights. We're going to have four mounting points on each fog light. Now, it may depend on what hardware that you have, but I'm going to use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove these screws that are holding in each fog. And, again, you don't have to take your bumper off in order to do this, but to give you guys a better visual, we took the bumper off. All right. We're going to take our factory hardware, put it to the side because we will be reusing it for our new lights. Once all four screws are out, what we can do is just pull back on the fog light, and it'll come out just like that, and we can do the same thing for the other side. Before we hop into the rest of the install, I do want to stop down and give you guys a look at both our new Axial LED fog lights and our factory lights and give you guys a little bit of a comparison here. Now, the factory lights that I have on the table, this is the LED package. However, at home, you may have a halogen package in your JK. Now, these Axial LED fog lights, nonetheless, are going to be a big upgrade from both the LED package as well as the halogen package. Now, starting off with the exterior, you can tell that these are going to have a very stealthy look on our factory lights, especially the LED, you are going to have a large chrome reflector. Even with the halogen ones, you are going to get that chrome reflector in that classic look. The Axial lights do have a very similar housing to the factory. They are going to be made of a plastic material, but what I do like about the new Axial fog lights is the fact that they're going to have a clear hardened lens on the front. So, they will be able to hold up a little bit longer and a little bit better to any brush or branches on the trail than your factory ones are used to. Now, moving to the actual design of the inside of the light, I really like how these are simplistically set up but they still are going to look very good while mounted up to the front end of your JK in comparison to the factory setup. You're going to have two accent lightings, one up at the top and then one down at the bottom, and then you're going to have a center LED. Now, those accent lights are going to act as a daytime running light, and even if you do have the LED package from the factory, again, that is a step up and a step in the right direction if you're looking for some extra styling for the front end of your JK.Now, moving on to the lighting, these, obviously, are going to be an LED, and in comparison to the factory LED, they are going to be very similar in the way that they perform. However, these, obviously, being new, are going to last a little bit longer. Now, in comparison to the halogen setup that I don't have with me right now, those are usually going to be a little bit on the warmer side when it comes to color temperature, so moving over to an LED is really going to clean up and modernize the look with a bright white color temperature. They're also going to have a more uniform light pattern and shine a lot brighter, helping you out with your visibility, and overall, again, you're getting a lot of styling out of these. Not to mention, these are also going to be DOT and SAE approved and they come with everything that you need in order to install them, which makes it incredibly easy to get these in. And I'll show you guys that in just a second. As you can tell, here we have a plug and play harness, and we even have a little extension, and that's going to help out if you are putting these in an aftermarket bumper and you need that extra wiggle room with that wiring harness. Now, for the accent lighting, you will have to do a little bit of splicing that I'll walk you through in just a second again. But they do make it very easy. They include all of the wiring and it is very simple in order to get those wired up. So, speaking of that, let's go ahead and install our new Axial LED fog lights. So, what we can do now is install our fog lights the same way that we took out our factory ones. There is going to be four mounting points, again, and we also are going to have the two tabs or two holes here to align them, so you want to make sure that those are lined up when you place them in the bumper. And they'll go over the two like that, it'll be pretty secure in there. And then we can take our factory hardware, line all of that up, and grab our Phillips head screwdriver, and tighten those in. So, if you mount these up and put the bumper back on and test out the lighting and it is shining a little bit too high or too low, there is an adjuster screw right here. You are provided with an Allen key in order to adjust this up and down, to make sure that the light is pointed the correct direction. Now, that one side is in, we can repeat that same thing on the other. All right. Now, that both of our fog lights are installed, we can reinstall our front bumper. What we can do now is connect our main fog light connector, so it will be your factory one in this new one here. Now, if you do have an excess of wiring, we have extensions on our factory harness, and this is a little bit longer than the average fog light wiring harness. What I would recommend to do after you've plugged everything in is just to zip tie everything up and clean up that wiring, make sure it's out of the way. All we have to do is just plug that in. You'll hear a little snap and then put it down. And this will give us a good position to see where we need to run our wire for our daytime running light. We can do the same thing over on the other side here. So, what we can do next is take our running light wire, and we're going to connect it to our marker light wiring. So, we are going to take this sheathing, there's going to be a black wire and a white wire with a green trace. The white wire with the green trace is going to be our power. I already have a vampire clip it down at the base of our wiring harness here with a quick disconnect. What I'm going to do is add a spade connector on the other side of our daytime running light wiring harness that is provided in the box.So, with the exposed wire, I'm just going to add that on. And take a pair of wire crimpers, crimp that down, and then we can plug that into our power wire. Now, if you don't have a quick disconnect like this, you can always use a vampire clip like we have up at the top, or you could splice directly into it that wire by twisting the two wires together, and adding a butt connector. What we can do now is take the other side and add that into the fog light wiring harness. So, now that we're over at the wiring harness directly on the fog light, what we can do is just pull those two wires together. And then, again, what I would recommend to do is just tie these up and out of the way with some zip ties and clean up that wiring. So, then we can do the same exact thing on the other side. So, on the other side of our Jeep, we actually don't have a quick disconnect wire, so what I'm going to do is take a vampire clip and we can go ahead and install this. Again, it's going to be the white wire with the green trace. You just want to make sure that it's far enough down so that the yellow wire is able to reach the fog light wiring harness. But, again, that also is going to be a little bit extended in comparison to the factory wiring harness on a factory fog light. So, I'm just going to put both wires in there. What we can do then, making sure that both of those wires are lined up. You can take a pair of pliers, crimp down, and clamp down on both of those. Take the locking tab, fold that over, make sure it's secure, and then we can take the other side of this wire and plug it into the back of our fog light. Again, we can just plug this right in the spade connector. Once that's plugged in, we can tuck up the wiring and adjust our lights, and we'll be all set to go.So, that's going to wrap it up for my review and install. Make sure you like and subscribe.
