    Review & Installation Video

    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com and this is my review of the 6.5 inch Round ARB Driving Light Kit, fitting all 1987 to 2016 Wranglers. These are for anyone looking to add some additional light outfit to their Jeep. These are a high quality, moderately priced light, and as you can tell, these are not LED. So, if you're not after that modern LED look, and you like a little bit more of the old school halogen incandescent bulbs, this is a good option for you. These lights are constructed of a high impact black resin, which of course means they're not metal. So even if they get scratched, they're not gonna rust and they should last a good long time for you. The lenses are made of a hardened glass and the kit includes these stone guards to provide even more protection. Also included in the kit is this full wiring harness that has everything from the relay to the switch to the fuse, and it makes installation really easy. Something else that's included in this kit which makes it a little bit unique is that there are two different sets of bulbs in the box. One is a 55-watt bulb, that's what comes in the lights, and also they provide you with a 100-watt bulb, so you can really customize the lights for whatever you wanna do with them. The beam pattern they produce is a hybrid spot and driving beam. You can really install these lights anywhere you want, which is the case with most auxiliary lights that use a single post mount. You can put these on your A pillar, on your bumper light mount tabs, or really put them anywhere you're comfortable drilling a hole. Wiring could not be any easier with the included harness. The harness plugs into both lights, it'll attach to both battery terminals, and you'll have to fish one wire through the firewall to mount your switch. The entire installation will take about one hour, and you won't need any specialty tools, just some sockets and a Phillips head screwdriver. We also found it handy to have a metal coat hanger around to help us with fishing that wire through the firewall. I think these are really high quality, especially for the price you pay. IPF makes these lights for ARB, and when you take them out of the box and hold them in your hand, you can really tell that you're getting something quality. That, along with the fact the kit includes both lights, the stone guards, the wiring harness, and two sets of bulbs means your getting a really good value for the cost. A lot of people are looking to add some additional light output to their Jeep, and if you want a high quality, moderately priced light, I think you're looking in the right place. A lot of people are selling the square LED modern style lights, and there's nothing wrong with those. But if you're somebody that likes a little bit more of that old school round halogen light look, these are a really nice option. So that's my review of the 6.5 inch Round ARB Driving Light Kit, fitting all 1987 to 2016 Wranglers that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Hybrid Lighting. Providing you the best of both worlds, the IPF 6.5 inch lighting kit from ARB features a unique beam pattern with beam and spot characteristics to provide adequate trail coverage without extra investments. This kit includes two IPF 968 series 6.5 inch round lights with multi function reflectors for superior light balance and come equipped with removable grille light guards to assist in protection your lens from trail hazards.

Durable Construction. These lights come equipped with 55W/100W bulbs, for the perfect intensity for trail travel. Each housing is constructed from high impact black resin and finished in a clear, hardened glass lens for superior protection.

Installation. This kit includes everything you'll need for a straightforward installation and comes with 2 lights, connectors, a wiring harness, relay, mouse style switch and two black light guards. Mounting is easily completed on any universal light tab or bumper equipped with driving light mounts.

Application. The ARB IPF 6.5 inch driving light kit is designed for universal application on all 1987-2019 Jeep Wrangler YJ, TJ, JK and JL models.

Can you install these to your factory switches on a 18 jlu

        • This would be able to be connected to the factory JLU aux switches. These can draw up to 25 amps.

Could these be used with windshield mounts or are the lights/wiring harness only fit to be put on the front of the jeep?

        • The ARB 6.5 in. IPF 968 Series Round Halogen Lights can be used with windshield mounts. Mounting is easily completed on any universal light tab or bumper equipped with driving light mounts.

If wiring these to like a S-Pod or equivalent, would you run the wires straight towards the pod leaving out the included relay?

        • We recommend running the ARB 6.5 in. IPF 968 Series Round Halogen Lights through a relay and utilizing your switch to control the relay. We do not offer the S-Pod, however looking over their offerings, it appears their "source" box will utilize integral relays, which would work for this install. If run without a source box, directly to the S Pod switches, a relay would be strongly recommended.

            Good lights for the price

These are a decent light for the price. The installation is straightforward and the kit is very complete. They throw a good amount of light, and give a nice classic round light look. The grills cut light output a bit, but are very easy to remove. My only complaint is that the plastic housing on the back is easy to break. During install, one rolled off the bumper, dropping about 24 inches to the pavement and the black plastic housing on the back cracked (60 degree weather, so not like it was freezing and brittle). It didn’t affect the functionality, so I ignored it, but it does raise some questions about of long term durability. Still, they are pretty cheap, and a decent value overall.

            Happy with product, poor instructions

The installation of this product took longer than we anticipated. The main problem was with the instructions. Clearly this product is from China, you can generally tell by the grammar. Some of the instructions referred to other installation instructions, of which there were none. The main problem was with the wire that gets electricity to the on off switch (long yellow wire in our case). The instructions did not tell where or if this wire needed to be connected. After finding a video on you tube we saw that the wire needed to be connected to either the hot wire from one of the headlights or the red terminal on the battery. This was a pretty big omission since the unit would not work without knowing this. Not un expected from China products but very frustrating.

            Bad switch

The lights were packaged well. Directions are useless. I have modified many vehicles over the decades and directions/instructions have become more vague over time. Initial quality seemed fine but after installing the lights they failed to work. After a little trouble shooting I found the switch to be defective. Contacted Extremeterrain and was told the whole kit would need to be returned for an exchange. I’ll buy a different switch but ARB should produce a better product and Extremeterrain should provide a better solution. There are a lot of venders now so I’ll shop around before I’d purchase from either company.

            Great Price

If you are someone who is looking for a stock looking off-road light and don’t wanna pay $300 for it, then this is the light for you. I was looking for halogen lights and I’m so glad I went with these. No time at all to install but that’s also because I have a switch panel, but the wiring I didn’t use would have been just as easy.

            IFP 968 Driving/Spot Lamps

Great product, good beam pattern, nice retro look to my 2013 JK. Pretty easy to fit using supplied harness and relay. Reasonable instructions, backed up by many visits to You Tube etc. I'm no wiring expert, but I took my time and routed the wiring carefully, install took approx 3 hours. Interior switch is a little cheap, but it functions ok, may upgrade at some point. Would highly recommend buying some 3/8" plastic cable harness for wire routing - Good product !

            Slightly disappointing...

Wiring was pretty easy but a few things had to be changed. My switch came broken and my fuse was already popped. Had to cut switch out and re wire new switch. Overall I am happy with the quality, I just feel I got the “bad egg” out of the batch but I made it work.
