The Bestop Tailgate Organizer and Bags is for anybody who has a 1987 all the way up through the 2018 JK who's looking for a way to organize the interior of your Jeep just a little bit more and use an otherwise unutilized storage location. Now while this does fit all three generations YJ, TJ, and JK, for the JK that we're working on today, it is going to be a easy one out of three wrench no-drill installation for YJ or a TJ, there is going to be some drilling involved so do keep that in mind. But as usual we are gonna show you how to get this installed on the JK that we have here in front of us. So in your Wrangler, regardless of what generation it is, whether it's a two-door or a four-door JK or one of the older two-door Wranglers, there is not going to be a ton of storage inside the vehicle. And once you start having things like recovery gear, first aid kits, whatever you might be storing inside your vehicle, it can get very messy, very fast. So the reason I like having some organization added to the inside of the tailgate here is that it's an otherwise unutilized space, so this is usually just dead space. Now does this encroach on that space behind the rear seat a little bit when the tailgate is closed? Yes. But it is a way that you can organize that space where otherwise you would just be throwing stuff in the trunk area behind that backseat. So I really like storage like this in this area and I really like this storage solution specifically from Bestop because it's not just a stationary storage piece, it's something that you can grab and go, you can take with you and that's really important if we are talking about something like recovery gear or first aid where you don't always need it right here but you want to have it easily accessible. With just ripping this small tab here and opening up this snap you can grab the handle and very easily take either one or both of these bags with you to go. Again very quickly, very, very easily. So this is going to be including the backer piece that you attach onto the tailgate here as well as both of these bags, the slightly larger one and the slightly smaller one here. Underneath here there's also a little bit of a mesh bag that's attached onto the backer piece so that stays on the Jeep at all times but it is a little bit of additional storage as well. The larger bag has a couple of pockets on the inside, there's also this mesh pocket on the outside of both of these bags, so just a ton of storage for a lot of little things to be put. And again you can take these bags with you which is very nice. Now being in this area of the Jeep, there's a chance that if you have the top down there could be a little bit of moisture that gets on these bags. Well, you don't have to worry about that with these, these are moisture-resistant. They're also UV-resistant which is really nice for anything that's gonna be black. They are a marine-grade material so you don't have to worry about moisture causing any sort of issues with these bags.So as you can tell, Bestop makes these, they're a very high-quality piece, they've thought of through a lot. The quality of the manufacturing is there as well, so it's definitely gonna be a premium product. And because of that, it does come at a little bit of a premium price. This is going to be right around the $90 mark for these two bags and the backer piece. Now do I think it's worth it? Yeah, I do. If you're looking for something that is going be long term that is really well-thought out, this is going to be a great option for you and I don't think $90 is a crazy price tag for what you're getting. However, if you are looking for a little bit less expensive storage that goes in the inside of the tailgate here, we are going to have some other options out there as well. So like I said on the JK this is a nice easy one out of three wrench no-drill installation. Let me show you how to do it. For this installation, we used a number two Phillips head tip on a three-eighths impact driver and a trim removal tool. So we're gonna be installing this part on a JK today which means a no-drill, very easy installation. If you are installing this on a different generation vehicle, on a TJ for instance, there is gonna be some drilling into your tailgate which is going to up the install difficulty level a little bit. But again, for us today on this JK, very, very simple. We're gonna start with a trim removal tool and pulling this piece of trim off the inside of the tailgate. With the plastic trim removed from the inside of the tailgate, we've exposed these oblong holes, those are going to be our mounting holes. So we have a couple of pieces of hardware that come in the kit here and some of that is going to be these rectangular plastic clips. So these just slide right inside those holes like that and that will give us a spot that we can thread a screw into. So once we get all of these plastic clips installed, we'll hold up the mounting point for the bags and then install the self-tapping screws to hold everything onto the tailgate. Now that the plastic clips are installed, we can install the back end piece for our bag. They have small holes already drilled in them and that's what the screws are gonna go through. So again, these are your self-tapping screws, we'll get it started just by hand like that. Then we're gonna grab our screw gun and we're gonna thread it right into the plastic clip we just installed. So, we'll start with the middle one there to pin everything in place, leave it loose and then we'll move on and install all the other ones. With our backer piece attached onto the inside of the tailgate, we can prepare the bags to get them installed on the backer and there's not a whole lot of preparation that's necessary here but if you open up the bag on the inside you are going to have a couple of hard side pieces. So the front and the back already have some hard pieces installed in them but these are designed to go on the sides here just to make sure that the bags get held open and you have plenty of space in there for all of your stuff. So we'll just go ahead and slide them into place, it's really all there is to it. And then we'll get our bag installed on our backer. So there's just a small piece of plastic J-channel on the back of the bag and then a corresponding piece on the backer that we just installed on the tailgate and you just start at one side and slide the bag right on. We'll do the same thing for the other larger bag. So once you have both of the bags slid on here, there's a small snap here with...on a little bit of a strap and we'll secure that, that way when you open the tailgate especially if you open in quickly and there's a little bit of weight in the bags they're not gonna try and slide right off on you, so that'll hold everything nice and secure. So once you have that done, you can buckle all of your bags shut. So that's gonna do it for the installation. If you are looking for where to utilize some other ways unutilized space in your Jeep and help to organize some of your gear, I would definitely recommend this item from Bestop and you can find it right here at extremeterrain.com.
