Hey, guys. So today, we're checking out the Rock-Slide Engineering Step Sliders, fitting all 2007 to 2018 Ford or JK Wranglers. So, if you're in search of a premium option for a sidestep that's gonna provide you the ultimate convenience, while also giving you a lot of protection in the meantime, this option by Rock-Slide Engineering is going to be a great choice to take a look into. Now, obviously, these are going to be a powered step. So, whenever you open up your door, this step is going to fold out and vice versa. Now, what I really like about this is the fact that this is going to give you instant convenience for getting in and out of your cab area very easily, especially if your Jeep is lifted. Now, not only is this just going to help you get in and out as well as your passengers, but this is gonna help you out with roof access if you have a roof rack or even just helping you take the freedom panels off your Jeep. Now, this is going to have a large step that's gonna be placed right in front of the drawer or the front and the rear door. And you're going to get a grip tape on the step itself that is pre-installed.That's gonna help you out on those wetter days giving you some extra traction and making sure that you are not going anywhere when you're stepping on this step here. Now, what I really like about this is when you fold this step back up, these are going to sit very high and tight to the rocker area and almost look like a factory ruby rail, which I do really like. It looks very sleek and, again, like I told you guys before, this is going to provide a lot of protection. Now, these steps are gonna be made of a CNC cut 11 gauge steel. These are gonna be incredibly thick, perfect for you guys that are not only, again, looking for that convenience, but also need a heavy duty step or a heavy duty rock slider that is going to provide protection when you're taking your Jeep out on the trail. Now, again, these are gonna tuck very high and tight and you're getting a lot of underbody protection as well as side protection out of these. So, this is gonna come out a little bit farther. So, whether you're on the trail and you are concerned about your break over angle and want to make sure that that pinch weld is protected, or you're just in the parking lot and want to make sure that nobody's opening up their car door and hitting the side of your Jeep, these are going to have you covered. So, the one big thing that I do really like about this pair of sidesteps is the fact that there's a lot of detail and a lot of thought put into the overall design of, not only just the sidesteps, but the package in general. So, you're getting a nice gasket here that's going to provide some protection to the body of your Jeep from the sidestep itself. It's not only attached by the pinch weld, but it's also going to be attached to the body mounts which is gonna add a lot of structural integrity to the step. The motor in the back is going to be IP rated, so it is dustproof and waterproof for you guys that are taking your Jeep out on the trail. And the wiring harness is completely plug and play which is very important when it comes to a set of steps like this. Now, that's gonna make it very hassle free to get these installed and you don't have to worry about splicing or doing a lot in order to get these installed. It just makes it headache-free and I do really like that about this pair of steps. And not to mention it, this does come with a tail switch. So, if you do take your doors off, you don't have to worry about driving around with the step lowered down. It will tuck back up. And whenever you decide to turn them back on again, you do have a switch inside your cab area to do so.Now, with all that being said, these are going to be a premium option. So, they are going to be a little bit more expensive than some of the other choices on the page at roughly $1,900. Now, again, you do have to think about everything that you're getting with this kit. You're getting a very durable sidestep that's going to provide you a lot of convenience and a lot of little details that are going to really make the kit. Now, in comparison to some other choices, a lot of the options on the page aren't going to be powered. So, if you're looking for something a little bit more budget-friendly, those might be your choice to take a look into. But if you're really looking for something that's going to provide you ultimate convenience and, kind of, that flashy effect with also giving you a lot of protection, this is going to be right up your alley. Now, in comparison to some other powered steps on the page, some other choices are usually going to fold out from the rocker area and instead of having the step come out of the slider itself. Now, that's gonna give you a lot of convenience. However, it's not gonna give you the most protection. It is still going to protect your rocker area but not as much as this option. I do really like the fact that Rock-Slide Engineering, kind of, took a 50/50 with the convenience and the protection. You're really getting a lot of protection out of this in comparison to some other options that aren't gonna give you a whole ton of protection, but a lot of convenience. So again, if you're looking for something that's going to give you a lot of protection, convenience, and style, then this is gonna be a great choice to take a look into. So, install is gonna be a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. However, it is gonna be a lighter two out of three. You do have a decent amount of work to do when installing these steps, but all you're gonna need is some very basic hand tools, and about two hours' worth of your time. So, speaking of that install, let's jump into that now.The tools that I used for my install were an impact wrench, a 13-millimeter, and an 11-millimeter wrench, a 1/4-inch drive ratchet, a trim removal tool, an 18-millimeter, 13-millimeter and a 10-millimeter socket. To kick off this install, we're gonna start on the passenger side and we're gonna install our body brackets that are gonna hold up our steps. Now, we're gonna have three brackets here that are going to be inserted in our existing body bolts on our Wrangler. We have a taller one that's gonna be in the front, a shorter one that's gonna be in the middle, and a longer one that's gonna be on the back. I have an 18-millimeter socket as well as an impact wrench here and we're gonna go ahead and loosen up those body bolts. So, working from the front to the back, I'm gonna loosen up the first body bolt with an 18-millimeter socket. And we don't have to fully remove it. We just have to loosen up so we can wiggle our bracket in between the washer and the bolt pad. All right, so now we can push the washer up to wiggle on our bracket. So, then we can take our bracket for [inaudible 00:06:07] a 45 degree angle and wiggle it into place. Now, we wanna to leave that loose because we still do need to adjust it and then we can repeat that process on the other three body bolts. So, that one came out all the way. However, we can start to just thread that back in because we don't need it to completely come out. Then we can take our shorter bracket and wiggle that one into place. Again, if you need to give it a little tap with the dead blow just to get it seated, that's okay. So, next making sure that our rocker area is clean, what we can do next is apply our seal to our rocker area. Now, this is just going to be a guard as well as a seal to prevent the metal from contacting the painted surface of the body and just prevent any scratching or future damage. So, what I'm gonna do is pull back some of this backing tape from the 3M tape. I also clean the area to make sure that the adhesion process is good. There's also going to be a notch on the back side of the seal here that's gonna line up with the B-pillar rear body panels. That split there is where that notch should line up. We're gonna line that up, make sure that it's straight, stick that back piece down and then we can continue to pull that 3M back in. So, our next step is to mount up our step. It is going to have studs on it so we will be able to hang it on our pinch weld. But we wanna make sure that the brackets that we just installed are on top of the brackets on the bottom of our step. So, now that our step is hanging on our pinch weld, what we can do is secure down those studs. Now, you're gonna have two different size studs for each set of the studs on the pinch weld. So, we're gonna have a larger stud and a smaller stud. I'm just going to secure them both down with the provided flat washer and nylon lock nut. Now, before we turn anything down, I do wanna make sure that the other two mounts are secured. And then we can come back to the studs and tighten them up with a 13-millimeter and an 11-millimeter ratcheting wrench. So, it's gonna be a little bit difficult to see but it is through this hole here and then you also can reach around the back of the step. So now, once we have all of our stud hardware installed, I'm gonna take a 13-millimeter wrench and an 11-millimeter wrench and we can tighten down the stud hardware. Now, what we can do is secure our step to the body mounted brackets using our brass hardware. There's gonna be four mounting locations on the bottom here. So, we're gonna take those bolts as well as the flat washers, adjust the bracket to line up and thread those in. Now, in order to get the brackets to line up, you may have to push the bracket forward or what you can do is, kind of, tighten up that body bolt, not all the way, but just enough to lift it off of the bottom of our step so you can get those threaded in.You wanna make sure that all four are threaded in before you tighten it down. So, after those four are installed, what we can do is tighten those up with the 13-millimeter socket. Then we can repeat that for the other two mounts. Last but not least, we can completely tighten up our body bolts with that 18- millimeter socket that we used to loosen them up. So, after you have the passenger side installed, you wanna repeat that process for the driver side and then we can head into the wiring. Now, we're gonna start with the big wiring harness that we have here. It is going to look pretty complicated but it is actually pretty simple and everything is going to be completely plug and play. Now, first before we get to the harness, we do have to install our door actuators on our door frames here to make sure that when we open up the doors, this step will come out. But I wanted to give you guys a brief overview of the harness. Now, you're gonna have a main control box that's going to control everything and then you're also gonna have a driver and a passenger side part of the harness. Now, those are going to include the door actuators as well as the overall actuator for the step itself and an LED plug. Now, we're not gonna be using the LED plugs because we do not have the LEDs with this kit. They are sold separately. Then up at the front of the harness, we're gonna have a switch wire that's gonna turn our steps on and off. And we're also going to have a battery harness that's going to plug into a separate battery harness that'll be attached to the battery itself. Now, again, it is pretty simple. It is plug and play and I'll show you guys where everything goes. But I do recommend that you take a look at the Rock-Slide Engineering wiring harness and label everything accordingly. I have already done that. And then we can go ahead and install our actuators and our door frames. So, what we can do now is take our actuator with our plug and we can install it just below our door striker here. They are supplied with 3M tape in order to do so. You just stick that on the back there. Pull the backing off.You wanna make sure that the wire is going inside the cab area. You're also gonna get this strip that is also sticky, that's gonna go underneath the carpet but we're gonna save that for later when we get the main harness installed. But we wanna just make sure that this is right below the striker and then we can tuck this in for now. Then we can move to the other side on the door. Now, next we are gonna install our magnet. Now, it is gonna have 3M tape on the back of it, but you're also supplied with a second thing on 3M tape. What I'm gonna do is just peel this off. Sometimes this will work a little bit better than the adhesive that's on the back of the magnet, just because that adhesive is pretty thin. We can line that up with our magnet, peel this off, and line up our door. It should stick right below that striker area and you can go ahead and line that up. And we'll be able to test that in a few. Next, we can do the same thing for the front. Now, for the front one, we're gonna do the same thing, but we're going to install it right above the striker. And this will tuck into our trim piece here. Just let's leave that out for the time being. What we can do now is start to run our wiring harness. I'm gonna start with our main control box. Just plug that in. And this is gonna sit underneath of our backseat, underneath our carpet. We're gonna keep the passenger side over here. What we wanna do is just lift up our carpet and start to slide this through. You also wanna make sure that you take all of the wires that are gonna be on the driver side, pop them through as well. Might be a little bit easier to just slide them through and then put them under the carpet at the end. Just because there are a lot of wires going on, you wanna make sure that you have all of them. JK carpet is pretty easy to lift up and, kind of, manipulate. So, just run these to the other side. But we wanna keep the passenger side over here. So, if you have everything labeled, you can grab the passenger side rear actuator, plug that in. And again, we'll be tucking this into the carpet. And then we can take some of these passenger wires, bring them up to the front. Really, we're gonna only need the front actuator. So, right now we can put that there. This is all gonna go underneath the carpet. This is going to be our passenger side overall actuator. So, this is gonna plug into this step. So, what I'm gonna do is take our main actuator for the passenger side and put that through our dream plug. Now, again, you wanna make sure that this is away from anything hot, but then we can go underneath and grab [inaudible 00:18:23]. Pull that through, and then what we can do is plug this in for now, but we're gonna go back and tie everything up and out of the way as far as wiring goes. And then we're gonna have to remove some of this bottom trim piece. We need a trim removal tool in order to do this so we can run our actuator wire up to the front. So, what we can do now is just take a trim removal tool or a pop clip removal tool and just remove these Christmas tree clips that are holding this part of the trim piece on.This LED wire, we can just tuck that under the carpet because we won't be using that. We can take our front actuator and start leading that up to the front. Once that's in place, we can actually put the carpet and the trim piece back because we'll be able to access it up front by removing two trim pieces upfront. Once those are back in, again, we can move back up front. So, upfront, we're gonna have two Christmas tree clips that are holding on this trim piece just like we did at the back, then go ahead and remove those. If you pull this up, you should see the passenger side front actuator. You're gonna clip that in. And then now that we have this open, what we can do is start to fit this wire through so we can hide it in the trim piece. Remove that back. Take our Christmas tree clips. Screw that down. Now, we can repeat that process on the passenger side. So, again, we're just gonna repeat that process on the passenger side and plug in the accordion wires. So first, we're gonna start with our sensor here, right underneath our striker, and then we're gonna tuck this into the carpet. All we have to do is just pull it back. We can take our magnet. So, once our sensors are on, we can take our wires from the driver's side and we can start to plug in our sensor wires. And then again we're gonna plug in the actuator wire through the drain plug. So, again we're gonna at the accordion colors and our labels here. So, orange and purple is gonna be the back. We're gonna run that up and plug that in to our sensor. Tuck that into the carpet, then we can do the same thing and remove these two Christmas tree clips with our trim removal tool so we can pull up the trim and route our wires through. So, because we are gonna have a decent amount of wires to go through, we're also going to go into the driver's side front and remove the other two clips that are holding in this trim piece. All right, and once that's off, we can kind of push that forward. What we can do now is start to route our switch wires, our battery wires, and our front door sensor wires up through the trim. So, what we can do now is attach our front door sensor, again, above the striker. Then we're gonna plug it into our driver front sensor wire that's gonna be the yellow and orange. Then we can tuck that back into the trim and button our trim back up. So, we're gonna start to pull our trim on the side here next to our driver's side seat. Now, there's one big Christmas tree clip. We're gonna do this before we button up the back trim just so we can make sure that everything's in the right spot to the side. It might be helpful if you, kind of, untuck it, so we can pull it back and start to run our wire underneath this trim up to the front area here in our foot well. So, now, we can work on our switch. Before we button up our trim we wanna make sure all of our wires are tucked before we secure it down. But now we can install our switch on our bracket. This bracket is gonna be provided. We're gonna put the switch into the larger hole up at the top and the little cutouts on the side. To fit the switch into, just give it a push and it should see it in there. Now, we're going to plug it in. So, we're gonna have a ground wire into positive wires. Ground is going to go to connect the number three. It's gonna be the brass connector and then two positive wires on one and two. So, this is going to allow the sockets to open and close and turn the steps on and off. So, then we can take the ground wire. We're gonna ground it with our factory ground over on this side here. I wanna take a 10-millimeter socket and we can remove that nut. All right, so we don't have to fully remove it. We're just going to place our ground around that bolt there. Then we can tighten that back up with that same 10-millimeter socket. So, now this is going to mount onto our hook here, and it's just going to slide right in. So, we don't have to necessarily remove these two bolts here, but we are gonna loosen them up using the same 10-millimeter socket. And then I'm gonna slide the bracket underneath those washers. So, you wanna have enough room to slide that bracket underneath. You also wanna make sure that this is out of the way of the door plug. I'm gonna tuck it behind. We'll tuck these wires in just a second, but we wanna make sure that everything is good for the most part. That's gonna sit there just like that, then we can tighten these up with the same 10-millimeter socket. Again, the reason why we didn't want to completely put this back in place is because we need to tuck those wires again. So, once all of that is tucked in, we can take our Christmas tree clips and just put them back in place. So, now we can pull our battery wire connectors through. Now, this is going to be difficult to see from the inside of the cab area, but on the upper left hand corner of the footwell, you're gonna have a pass through point. Now, you can see it on the side of the master cylinder here. There is going to be a little hole. So, once those are pulled through, what we can do is grab our main harness and run this over to our battery. So, now we can take our battery harness with the inline fuse, this is gonna be separate from the main harness and we can plug the red wire into the red and same for the black. Then do like these. These are sealed up really nice so you don't have to worry about any water moisture or any dust getting inside of those. But what we can do next is just take this and run this over to our battery. Now, again, at the end we're gonna tie everything up, but I do like how they gave you enough wire that you can tie it into your factory wiring harness up here and keep everything very clean. Now, we can tie our leads to our battery. Now, I'm gonna be using the same 10-millimeter socket and we can start with our power wire. All right. So, now, everything is powered up. Now, again, you will want to flip the switch inside of the cab area. And that will make sure that the steps are working correctly. And then you just, again, wanna make sure all of these wires are tied up out of the way, especially underneath. You don't want them on anything hot. But after all of that is finished, then you're all set to go. So, once everything's wired up, zip-tied, and installed, what you can do is just flip this switch on. You should hear the step come out, and then it will flip back up. So, when you open up your doors, the sensor will actuate and the step will come out. And when you close the door it will go back up.So that's gonna wrap it up for my review and install. Make sure you like and subscribe.
