The T-REX Billet Series Round Grille Insert in Black is for those of you that have a 2018 and up JL that are looking to really subtly change up the look of the front of your Jeep. Now the JL comes with a factory grille insert. Essentially there's a little bit of plastic mesh that is between those seven slots of the grille. This is going to remove that and instead replace it with horizontal round bar, but because this is black and because the Jeep comes with a factory mesh, you're really just changing it subtly, not really adding something that's major. It's not super flashy. I really, really like this and I'm usually not a big fan of grille inserts. This is going to be a very easy one out of three wrench installation. There's a little bit of cutting that you have to do with a couple of plastic tabs off the back of your factory grille, so you're not going to be able to reinstall your factory grille mesh very easily after doing that trimming. So do keep that in mind with this install, but overall, very, very simple one out of three wrenches and we'll show you how to do it in just a second. So this is going to be something that is incredibly high quality. T-REX makes very, very nice stuff. This is going to be 3/8 round bar. It is billet aluminum. It's powder coated. It's going to hold up really well. It's not necessarily going to offer a lot more protection. This isn't really a functional piece, but what it is designed to do is subtly change up the look of your Jeep and it does a very, very nice job of that. Now because this is billet aluminum, it's gonna be a little bit more expensive than some of the other choices out there. Some of the others might be mild steel. You catch a stone throw, they're gonna rust. They might be plastic, they catch a stone throw, they could crack. This being aluminum, even if it does get a little bit of sandblasting in the powder coating and if it does catch a little bit of a chip, you're not going to end up with full-on rusting like you would with mild steel. So I do think this is worth the little bit of extra that you pay for it. This comes in right around that $175 mark and again, I do think that it's going to be worth it. As I said in the beginning, I'm usually not a big fan of grille inserts but this is absolutely one that I would run on my Jeep. So pretty easy install here, let's show you how to do it. Tools used for this install are 1/4 drive impact gun, T20 Torx bit, a panel pry tool, flathead screwdriver, and bubble wrap. First thing we're gonna do is open up our hood. All right. Next thing we're gonna do is remove the six push pins along the top of the grille here. All right, once you've got all six push pins removed, you can pull out on the grille and we're gonna pull straight out on the bottom here to release the retaining tabs. All right, we can remove our grille. All right, so now that we have our grille removed from our vehicle, I'm gonna place it down on a table and I did lay some bubble wrap down that I had laying around just to protect our paint. So the next thing that we're gonna do is take a T20 Torx bit and remove the eight screws that are located throughout the grille here. All right, next up we have four white clips that need to be removed. If you take a flathead screwdriver and you push down on the tab and push out, it will release the clip. All right. And last but not least, there are a couple of tabs down low here that we need for pry on with a screwdriver to get them released, and once you do so, this is gonna come out in sections. All right, so the T-REX instructions do tell you to cut these four plastic tabs off. We're not gonna do that because our Jeep needs to go back to stock when we're done installing this grille. So what I'm gonna do is bend them over to the side. That's gonna allow me to install my grille just fine, but for you guys installing this at home, you have to cut these tabs off. All right, so we're ready to put our grille into place now. What we're gonna do is place it down and like I said before, I'm just gonna bend these tabs out of the way so we're not making any permanent modifications on our shop Jeep here. And once you get them out of the way, you're gonna use the eight T20 torx screws that you took out this stock grille with. All right, so we're gonna use the T20 screws that we took out. I wanna get the corners down first, and then I'll go through here and then put the remaining screws in here. All right, we've got our grille insert installed, let's go ahead and get our grille back on the Jeep. Wanna line all the holes up, then we'll get our bottom clips engaged, and then we'll go through up top here and put our six push pins right back in place. All right. Last but not least, let's close our hood up. All right, that's gonna wrap up our review and install. Be sure to check out more at extremeterrain.com.
