    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com, and this is this is my review of the Teraflex 3rd Brake Light Adjustable Extension Bracket fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. A lot of you guys are running a large spare tire on either a bumper mounted tire carrier or even on the factory tire carrier, and that big tire is covering up your third brake light. Well, in order to stay both legal and safe, you need your third brake light visible. And this is a high-quality, well-built, and adjustable third brake light bracket that will allow you to reuse your factory third brake light, which helps you keep the cost down. There are a few options for replacing your factory third brake light and putting a new light in the center of your spare tire or even in the lug nut holes. And there are some options that require you to cut up your factory third brake light to make it work on a new bracket. Something I like about this setup is it uses your factory third brake light without the need to cut it up, and the fact that it uses that factory light means that you don't have to spend extra money purchasing a whole new light. This is a high-quality steel piece that's covered in a black powder-coated finish, and as we mentioned before, the whole thing is adjustable to work with up to a 38-inch spare tire. Another nice feature about this unit is that it has a built-in CB antenna mount. This third brake mount is designed to be used with a bumper mounted tire carrier and not with your factory spare tire carrier that's mounted on your tailgate. The first step of the installation is to remove the factory third brake light from it's factory mount by removing the Phillips head screws that hold it in place. From there, you can install the third brake light into the new mount. After that, it's just a matter of removing your factory spare tire mount by removing all eight of the bolts that hold it onto the tailgate and then reusing four of the bolts to attach the new adjustable third brake light mount onto the tailgate. The whole installation process shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes, and you won't need any specialty tools, just some hand tools. I think you do get a lot of value when you purchase this bracket. The build quality is there. The finish quality is there. You even get the built-in CB mount. And my favorite part about this bracket is that it's less expensive than a lot of the other brackets on the market, because like we said before, this reuses your factory third brake light, instead of forcing you to buy a new one. So if you have a large spare tire that's covering up your factory third brake light and you're looking for well-built, inexpensive, adjustable mount that will allow you to reuse your factory third brake light but make it visible again, this hits all of those points and does it at a great price. So that's is my review of the Teraflex 3rd Brake Light Adjustable Extension Bracket fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Specs. This extension bracket by Teraflex is durable and also adjustable to help you keep your 3rd brake light visible behind your upgraded spare. It features a built in mount for a CB antenna and is designed to work with most bumpers that have a swing out tire carrier.

Construction. When upgrading wheels and tires on your Wrangler, your 3rd brake light may no longer be able to reach past your spare making it difficult to see. This extension bracket by Teraflex uses your factory brake light and allows your it to reach past tires up to 38 inches.

Application. Designed for use with Tera flex hinged tire carrier on 2007-2018 JK Wrangler.

Can this be used with the TeraFlex HD Hinged carrier w/ Adjustable Tire Mount #J20886, so you would not have to cut the factory bracket and place the light inside of the tire, keeping it above the tire like the factory has it?

    • Yes! This Teraflex 3rd Brake Light Adjustable Extension Bracket can be used in conjunction with the Teraflex HD Hinged Carrier w/ Adjustable Tire Mount #J20886 to keep the factory look.

Can you use this with the factory tire carrier? In your video you show installation without putting the OEM tire carrier back on.

    • Hello, unfortunately this will not work with the stock tire carrier.

Will this work with the dv8 bumper with the tapered bearing swing tire carrier?

    • Unfortunately, this brake extension kit will not work with the DV8 bumper. We do have this mount here,https://www.extremeterrain.com/omix-ada-third-brake-light-jk-1154623.htmlwhich would work perfectly with that bumper with the tire carrier and tapered bearing.

Does this come with new wiring or does it use all the stock brake light wiring? Is there enough play in the stock wiring to adjust to the right extension height (I’m running a 35)?

    • The Teraflex 3rd Brake Light Adjustable Extension Bracket, is just the bracket. It will reuse the stock brake light wiring. With the Teraflex 3rd Brake Light Adjustable Extension Bracket and the Teraflex hinged tire carrier on Wrangler JK, you should have no issue with a 35" tire.

      Teraflex 3rd Brake Light Bracket

This is exactly what I was looking for! My new 2018 Wrangler JK had the 3rd brake light mounted in the middle of the spare tire, but I wanted to cover the tire. My dealer hand no clue; basically said ‘that’s the way it is unless you replace the spare tire tailgate mount’. My Jeep came with a Teraflex HD spare tire tailgate mount (which they also had no clue about). So with a little simple research on ET’s site, I found the exact extension bracket to match my tire mount! The original screws were too short for the provided spacer, but a small adjustment took care of that. Easy install, perfect fit Take THAT no-know car salesmen!!!!!

      Perfect solution!

This extender is exactly what I needed to replace my 3rd brake light after I removed the stock tire mount and replaced it with a swing arm mount. Easy to install and fully adjustable to any height.

      Perfect

Ordered this after putting 37’s on from my 35’s and it works perfect. Only issue I had was this small little metal lip I had to cut off that’s used for someone who has a CB, which I do not. It was the tiniest modification I had to make. Other than that it worked great.

      Adjustable Brake Light

The brake light extension does what it says. I'm not a big fan of the look, but due to local laws I have to have it. It fits over my 35in tire just fine and was a perfect fit.

      Not impressed

The bracket needs to be much stiffer. The rattle from the bracket hitting my tire carrier was so bad I had to use foam inside the bracket channel to minimize. It does get the light up high enough to clear my 35 tire.

Good for what it is supposed to be

The quality on this piece is great. One thing to know is that if you have the barricade trail force bumper, you will grind off the CB Antenna. The only real problem I found with the bracket is that it isn't sturdy, it seems to bounce back and forth some

Can't give 5 Stars, but OK

Bought the TeraFlex tub mounted oversized Tire Carrier and was very impressed with the engineering, construction and solid fit and finish; TeraFlex claims it's UV-resistant powder coated and has been tested by MOPAR's rigorous 10k door-slam torture test and 10 hour salt water blast and passed with flying colors. However, I don't think the same can be said about the 3rd brake light extension bracket - it's definitely not the same finish, before I even installed it the paint started chipping off, and after installation I noticed the light extension shows quite a bit of flex/whip when I close the tailgate. Don't know how well it will hold up in the long run, but guessing the tire carrier will definitely outlast the light extension. Another note is that the antenna mounting point sits behind the spare tire, so if you mount your spare tire flush against the tire carrier frame like the instructions say, there's no way to screw in a CB antenna. I think I'll plan to slide-out the spare tire receiver a little bit to allow for enough space for antenna installation; the tire mount bracket seems plenty solid and I shouldn't get any tire rattle even if it's not touching the tire carrier. There are cheaper tail light extension copies out there, but I like to support product originators and those that engineer/build their products in the US.

      Brake light extension

I installed the 3rd brake light extension on my 17 jk. Without the spare mounted on when you shut your tailgate it has so much flex to it that it slams into your rear glass. It makes it nice that you can adjust it for tire size but needs to be made out of heavier material
