I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com, and this is my review and installation of the Superchips TrailDash2, fitting your 2003 to 2006 TJ. Today, we're gonna talk through the installation of this TrailDash, which is a very simple one out of three wrench process. You're really just getting it plugged in and getting it mounted onto the dash. It isn't really too much of an install to speak of. The whole thing will take you less than half an hour, but we'll talk more about that in just a second. We're also going to talk about the construction and a few of the features of this unit.If you're interested in getting a little bit more power out of your TJ, a tune is one way to do that. Now, if you've installed larger tires on your Jeep and you haven't regeared it, I would always recommend regearing first. That is going to be the absolute best way to get that happy feeling back in your Jeep by getting back closer to your factory final drive ratio. However, if you've already regeared and you're still looking for a little bit more power, a tune is a way to do that. Now, the 40 is definitely optimized right out of the factory, so I wouldn't expect to see a night and day difference, but if you're comfortable running a higher octane fuel, then a tune is a way to squeeze a little bit more power, a little bit more throttle response, and some more torque out of your Jeep. Now, this unit here is gonna be for those of you who are looking to get that tune but also want to monitor your Jeep. Unlike some other tuners or say the Superchips Flashpaq, which is also available for your TJ, this is designed to be plugged into your OBD II port, get that tune loaded into ECU, but keep this on your dash so that you can have virtual gauges and really monitor what's going on in your TJ. The Flashpaq, you plug it in, you flash the tune onto the ECU, and you put it in the glove box. Again, this stays there, gives you those virtual gauges, and gives you a little bit more insight into what's going on with your TJ, which is a nice thing. Especially if you've tuned the engine, you're making it work a little bit harder, you wanna be able to keep an eye on things and make sure you're not gonna hurt anything. The TrailDash is going to give you a five-inch full color touchscreen, which is going to give you access to all of the menus that you'll go through in order to get the two loaded on your Jeep and to select which gauges you're seeing at any given point. Now, because this is designed to work on an older vehicle, this is for those '03 to '06 TJs, this isn't going to have all of the bells and whistles, all of the additional features that the same unit would have for a newer Jeep. There are a lot of things that the newer JKs do that the TJs don't do out of the factory, and they just don't have the capability of doing. So, this is going to give you those tunes. Again, you're going to wanna run a higher octane fuel, but you can get a little bit more power out of your Jeep, and it's gonna give you those digital gauges, but it's not going to give you a ton of adjustment over a lot of other features, because those features just don't exist on the TJ. So, if you are interested in having those digital gauges to be able to see what's going on in your Jeep, I think that this is gonna be a nice option for you. If you really just wanna get the tune and not have those digital gauges, the Superchips Flashpaq is going to be a better option. As I said before, there really isn't too much of an install to do with this. All you're really doing is plugging into your OBD II port, pulling your cable up behind the dashboard to keep things nice and neat, plugging this unit in, there's just one wire with the HDMI cable, and using the included mount to get it attached onto the dashboard, where you can see it and reach it, but it's not going to be in the way. From there, you'll go through your menus, flash your tune on to your ECU, and then go back to a screen where you can see those digital g

The install took a while because of outdated software, I plugged it into my jeep and turned on the 87 octane tuner, after 20 minutes of sitting in the car it finally finished installing. I went to turn on my car and now it doesn’t start, nothing is working, the TD2 is saying it needs to restart to fix the problem and return it to stock. After trying that several times the system didn’t work and now my car is stuck, the customer service is only available Monday-Friday 8-5. I had to get the jeep towed and brought to a factory to reset the system. Don’t buy this thing.Helpful (3)

Just a screen
I bought this programer mainly for the ability to see my trannny temp at all times I already run HP tuners program that I have finely tweeked to my preferences and I'm getting 17-19 miles a gallon again so I can't come plain it's a flawless setup.Helpful (1)

Works Great/No Real Change
I got this hoping it would help with some milage and though I was already getting 22 avg without my 33" tires, I put my 33" tires on and I still got 19-20 avg without the chip and I still have not gone up in econ after almost a year with the chip. It has great features for future purchase, however I cannot get the fuel to read correctly and the OBD II port plug hangs really low. I drive a stick and I hit the plug sometimes. Recently a mechanic brake the OBD II port because he hit the plug for the chip.Helpful (2)

It does what I needed, adjust speedometer for tires/gears, turn off day time running lights. I was able to get a slight performance gain, but nothing earth shattering. I was looking for a little more throttle response and got that, so I am pleased.Helpful (4)

Useful piece of equipment
I really like the Traildash2. I like the extra gauges that it provides and I like having the ability to change the program or “tune” when I want to within just a few minutes. I use the 93 octane performance tune and the towing tune. I bought it because I had the ring and pinion changed in my JK and needed to calibrate the computer. I chose traildash because I wanted the extra options. It is very simple to operate and I think is pretty forgiving if you accidentally enter the wrong information. The towing tune definitely positively affects vehicle performance when towing. I only have two negatives; The traildash does lag a little behind the vehicle but it is still pretty accurate. I’ve had it for two months and for some reason it has locked up twice on me. One of the times it would not power down without being unplugged. It bounced back without issue.Helpful (3)

I love it for my rubicon ,I’m using the gas saver mode,I put 488 in it on 35s for now shows I’m getting about 18mpgs,like the 4Wheel drive locking in high range, the only draw back is switching performance modes takes a whileHelpful (1)

Trail dash 2 in my 2011 2dr
Works great one of the best upgrades I’ve purchased. Went up 2-3 mpg plus the Jeep feels more aggressive!Helpful (2)
I have 2 JK's, a 2010 JK and a 2011 JKU. Can I use this on both Jeeps by plugging it and taking it out of each Jeep, or is the Superchips unit dedicated to only one vehicle install once it is plugged in? Thanks for your response.
The Superchips TrailDash2 would be designed for use on one vehicle. It can be transferred, but will require unmarrying it from the current Jeep by returning it to the stock tune. Superchips can provide more info on the number of times this can be performed.
Does this work with MAC computers for updates or PC/windows only?
Hello, as of now, it is showing only PC/Windows Compatible.
Will this work on a 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
The Superchips TrailDash2 is only compatible with 03-06 Wranglers. At this time, Superchips does not make a TrailDash2 for the 2002 and earlier models.
How weatherproof is this product? I like to leave my doors off and windows out for, at the very least, 6 months out of the year and that could end up being quite a bit of rain coming into the jeep, so I'm just trying to figure out if it would be fine or if I should just go with the Flashpaq F5.
Hello, we would not advise leaving this in the open and having the possibility of catching rain on it, that could cause a malfunction.
Will this work on a 2000 Jeep Wrangler tj sport?
