Simple installation for anyone
The Rugged Ridge XHD bumpers are a modular bumper, and if you purchase the bumper without the winch plate initially, this is going to be a very easy install that will work right alongside of your XHD bumper and give you the ability to mount a winch very easily and very cleanly.Today we're gonna talk through the installation of this winch plate, which is a pretty simple one out of three wrench install. If you already have your XHD bumper installed, you will have to remove it to first install this winch plate. But all-in-all still an easy install that shouldn't take you more than an hour, and we'll talk more about the installation in just a second. The XHD bumpers are available with the winch plate in the box so you can buy them together. But again, if you purchased the bumper separately without the winch plate before and now you're interested in adding a winch, this is going to be the part for you.As far as the construction goes, this winch plate is designed specifically to work with that XHD bumper. It works with all of the cutouts. All you need to do is remove the block off plate from the top and your winch will fit directly into that bumper. This doesn't get in the way of any additional add-ons that you might put on your XHD bumper as far as different corners, different bars, or different hoops. This really is designed to work seamlessly with that XHD bumper and it's designed to work with any winch. Winches generally have a standard footprint, so this winch plate comes pre-drilled to work with any of those winches. And this will hold anything from a 9,500 up to a 12,000-pound winch without a problem. While this is a very simple one out of three wrench install, as I said before, if you already have your XHD bumper installed, you will have to remove it in order to install this winch plate. And if you have a 2012 or up JK, you're going to have to relocate your vacuum pump in order to get this winch plate installed as well. But don't worry, those are all fairly easy mods that you can do with just traditional hand tools and you're gonna be able to get this installed in about an hour.So the first step is going to be removing your front bumper that you currently have installed. After that, you'll go ahead and relocate the vacuum pump to get it out of the way. Finally, it's just a matter of bolting this winch plate onto your front frame horns, and then reinstalling that XHD bumper over top of it.All in all, about an hour's time and some traditional hand tools and anyone can get this done in their driveway. When you compare the price of this winch plate to some of the other winch plates that are available on the market, especially those designed to work with your factory bumper, this is going to be a little bit more expensive. But that's generally the case with the modular bumpers. The Rugged Ridge XHD bumper gives you the ability to build the exact bumper you want and also to change that bumper as your build changes, so for those additional features you do pay a bit of a premium. So if you're running a Rugged Ridge aluminum XHD front bumper and it's time to add a winch, this winch plate is going to do so seamlessly and be an easy install. So that's my review of the Rugged Ridge XHD aluminum front bumper winch plate, fitting all 2007 and up JKs that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.
