- How to Install Rugged Ridge Summer Brief/Roll Bar Windshield Header on your 2007-2013 Wrangler
Open Box from $32.13
The Rugged Ridge Summer Brief-Roll Bar Windshield Header is for those of you that have a 2007 to 2010 JK, that are running one of the Rugged Ridge Summer tops. So some of their Safari tops, their Brief tops, they're going to have a snap-in system that do require a header like of this one. And this is gonna work just fine for those applications. This is gonna be a very easy one out of three wrench installation. No drilling for this header, simply clamps into place and the top snaps onto the header, so no tools necessary, very, very easy and I'll show you exactly how to do this in just a second. So if you are running one of those Rugged Ridge tops, it's very important to know that you need one of these and to purchase it to be able to install those tops. A lot of those tops will not install, no matter how you try to do it, without a header like this one. I like this header in particular because it is aluminum so if you were to get any scratching or chafing or anything like that in the powder coat finish, you're not gonna end up with full-on rust like you would with a mild steel header. This is going to oxidize a little bit as aluminum will but you're not going to get a full rust through situation. This is also a no-drill header which is pretty common for a JK but in generations past, the TJ in particular, there were drill-in headers and no-drill headers. This is going to be the no-drill style so it uses these large plastic thumb screws to attach onto the Jeep, making it a very, very easy process. And this is just going to fit for you. If you have one of those Rugged Ridge tops, it's designed to work with this header. They're gonna work very, very well together like I said before and not even any tools necessary. You simply snap the top onto the header and attach the header onto the Jeep with the large thumb screws. So this is gonna come in at $80 which, when you first look at it, it might seem like a lot but when you consider the fact that it is very easy to use, goes on very quickly, this is aluminum which is a more expensive material than steel, all those things together make it a little bit more worth the price. So, if you had purchased one of those Rugged Ridge tops, you wanna get it attached onto the Jeep easily, and you want a header that's a high-quality material, I would recommend this choice even for the price. So, now I've said a couple of times how easy this thing is to install, let me show you exactly how to do it. So like I said, this header installs very easily onto your Jeep, definitely one out of three wrenches. There are a couple of pieces that you need to assemble before actually putting it onto the Jeep so we're gonna do that now and that's really just this hardware over here. So you are going to take your large thumb screw, put a plastic washer on it, then you're going to go through this metal lever part. This is actually what's going to attach the header onto the Jeep. This hooks on the bottom of where the soft top or the hard top would hook. Then you have a metal spacer, finally another plastic washer, and these get screwed right into the threaded holes on the header itself. Go ahead and screw that in place. We can leave it a little bit loose. And then we'll attach the other one. Other than that, the only assembly is to snap your soft top onto the header itself. We're just gonna show you how to install the header today but whichever soft top you have that snaps on here, you can go ahead and snap that in place now. Then we'll move to the Jeep and show you how to attach the header onto the top of the windshield frame. Now we can attach the header onto the top of the windshield frame and it attaches very, very simply. You really just set it in place here and then those arms that we attached previously on the table, they're gonna go underneath those factory hooks like we talked about that hold the soft top or the hard top in place. So we'll tighten this one down a little bit and then we can move over to the other side and get that one set up. So if you're looking to run one of those Rugged Ridge tops, I would recommend taking a look at this Rugged Ridge header that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.

The retainer arms to hold the bar down, don’t even hold it! It’s missing the j-hooks as the instructions say! Also you can’t even drive it without them because it flies off and hit me in the head!!!!Helpful (4)

The Rugged Ridge Summer Brief / Roll BAr Windshield Header was a complete disappointment. The hardware does not secure the header to the jeep. The header detaches while driving. The rivets holding the male snaps to the header are too long preventing the cover from attaching. I will have to fabricate parts to make it usable at all. All in all a waste of money.Helpful (4)

Does not fit flush to my windshield frame.
I have a 2015 Wrangler JK and the windshield header does not match the contour of the windshield frame. There are "gaps" in the fit on each end of the header where it does not lay flush. Also, the windshield frame at the top appears to be straight, but the header has a bow to it. I thought they sent me the wrong product. I called and they confirmed it was the correct model number. I ordered another just to double check they did not send they wrong header in the packaging and I found the same problem.Helpful (4)

The header was hard to install. It should have a hook on the bottom bracket to hook it to the d ring area. It will slide back if not set perfectlyHelpful (4)

Snaps/Shape not effective
The bar is slightly bowed so it only comes flush with the rubber right in the middle of the windshield, making it easy for wind to pull it off on the highway. Snap also very difficult to attach top to bar. Lastly, the connection to the top with screw down clamps not very effective if you plan on using this top as a regular summer top, on the high way it gets pulled off the top at moderate speed.Helpful (5)

Missing Parts then leaking
The product was sent missing the gaskets, and when they were finally sent, the product allowed leaking. I was so frustrated with the experience I ended up just putting my hardtop back on.Helpful (5)

If I install this along with the Rugged Ridge Mesh Summer Island Topper, Black (10-17 Wrangler JK 2 Door) can I still use the soft top withour removing the mesh topper and header?
Unfortunately, the Soft top and the Rugged Ridge Mesh Summer Island Topper will use different windshield headers so they would not be able to be mounted at the same time. You would need to remove the Mesh Top header to utilize the soft top.
I have a 2016 Wrangler Willys, It is a 2 door hard hard top. I want a bikini cover to put on after taking the hard top off, I ordered an Island mesh but it is for a soft top, Didn't realize that when ordering. So I need to return it and get a cover that will fit a hard top. Could you please let me know what I need to order to make this a complete fit.
Hello, if you would like a top that will remain in its place even after installing the Hard Top, you would need something like the Barricade FullShade Top (07-17 Wrangler JK 2-Door) which you can find here: http://www.extremeterrain.com/barricade-fullshade-top-jk-J101176.html This is a Shade Top, and that is the only type of top you will be able to install to remain under a Hard Top.
how do I know if I already have this roll bar windshield header?
The Rugged Ridge Summer Brief/Roll Bar Windshield Header (07-17 Wrangler JK) would be over your windshield channel. This header uses snaps, when looking at your channel it would have holes for the snaps toward the cabin area.
