Key Features. The stock tailgate hinges on your Jeep are notoriously weak, so if yours are broken or failing, now's the time to replace them with this far stronger and higher quality Tailgate Hinge Set from Rugged Ridge. Made of stainless steel and painted black with a powder coating, these hinges are designed to resist corrosion of all kind, even as they sit out in harsh weather all year. They add a nice customized touch to the exterior of your rig, complementing any other mods you've put on. You can also ditch the OE hardware, because this set contains a fresh set.

Construction. Both tailgate hinges are made of stainless steel, which resists rust and other forms of corrosion. The semi-gloss black powdercoating not only looks great, it provides another line of defense against corrosion, so you can really rely on the hinges to last a long time. Both are made to OE specs, meaning they fit perfectly. The included hardware is painted to match the hinges.

Installation. To take on this job, you'll need a socket wrench set. It's a fairly direct task, but you'll need at least an hour to make sure you can line everything up. The new hinges bolt on at the exact same points as the old ones, so pay attention to the setup when removing the OE parts. Before tightening the hardware all the way, you need to check that the tailgate raises and lowers all the way, plus can latch and lock.

Application. This Tailgate Hinge Set is designed to work with Jeep Wranglers from the 1987-1995 model years.

            About as expected

The hinges are a decent replacement for factory. My biggest gripe is that one of the bolt heads stripped when i was tightening it by hand with an Allen wrench. Other than the somewhat sub par hardware, the hinges work fine and seem to be plenty strong.

            Rattle is gone

That rattle when your spare tire has loosened the rear door. Well it aventually broke the hinge. All better now. Thanks

            Mr. Quigley

The item resembles the original ones but are a little longer which creates a problem when installing with stock spare tire bumpers. Other then have to modify the rubber tire bumper on the rear hatch they work well.

            Didn't fit

The hinges were too long so I had take off the spacers by my tire carrier. Anyway they didnt line up with the holes correctly and the stock bolts dont fit these hinges so you have to buy new ones. The OEM hinges have little divots for the head of the bolt to sit in and these ones do not so the bolts dont go down all the way. Bigger pain than the money was worth

when I went to install the new hinges onto my jeep the holes did not line up with the stock ones.

            Tailgate hinges

The new hinges fit great and look great, but if you are still running the factory spare tire mount they sag a little when you open the tailgate.

            Fit great

I was really pleased with the fit and looks of the hinges. They went on easily after struggling to get the old ones off.
