        5 Top Rated Questions

I am running a 33x12.50 r15 tire is this stronger? I saw one of your videos talking about the tailgate being stamped metal and that it will fatigue faster if not using they bumper mounted tire carrier. Is this a safe alternative for my size and weight of tire?

        • This tire carrier wheel mount will work with the 33" tires you are running but we would also recommend purchasing a tailgare reenforcement kit as well to ensure that the tailgate can handle the added weight of the bigger tires.

Will 35 in tires fit on this carrier?

        • Yes, the Rugged Ridge Spartacus HD Tire Carrier Wheel Mount will hold up to a 35" tire.

What is the lug pattern on the tire mount?

        • The lug/bolt pattern is 5x4.5.

A spare tire carrier did not come on my TJ. Does this kit include the bolts to attach it to the tailgate, or do they expect us to use the ones from the original carrier.

        • This will reuse the OEM hardware.

Does the kit come with the lug nuts to mount the wheel/tire? If not, what size lug studs are required (I don’t have an existing spare tire carrier)?

        • This would not come with lug nuts and any stock size lugs would be fine.

            Had to drill new holes

The holes were about a half inch off where my rim lined up. Very odd considering I have stock factory rims. Feels like a very heavy duty product and I'm satisfied with that at least. Also appreciate it coming with screws to go into the tailgate.

            Cheap and simple

Easy bolt on carrier, seems large enough for most oversized tires. I'm not a fan of super flashy, so this carrier works perfect. It's simple, strong (sat my fat butt on it), and comes with everything you need. Only thing about installing this carrier is that having a second set of hands makes bolting it on easier. I did it solo, but took a few extra minutes trying to align bolts with holes.

            Tire carrier

Works great! Moves the tire out and puts it at an angle. Makes it plenty accommodating for a bigger than stock tire.

            Good Product

Easy to install and like the slight angle of the wheel. Fits 33" tires easily.

It went on very easy 4 bolts and there is a 31' tire mounted on it. Looks great!

Does what it's supposed to do

I have 36" spare and the torque from being off-road snapped the previous carrier. This carrier was an easy install, and with the thicker steel, is holding up so far. It's worth the money.

            Poor attention to detail

Good solid piece but the holes for the spare tire had to be re drilled and tapped for the bolts do to slag in them. Poor attention to detail. Also started rusting the first time it got wet.

            Rock Solid

I have a 16” rim with a 33” inch tire. After a week I backed into a tree off-roading and it didn’t bend a bit! Very durable. However, now my trunk door is very hard to open so I would recommend the tire carrier that connects to a bumper if you can afford it. Also, my tire did not fit onto this directly, so I used the extension piece that I owned which made it work. My tire looks like it like 10 feet away from my car but you do what you gotta do in college!!

            Tire Carrier

Really like the look and sturdiness of this tire carrier, my only issue was I had to rethread the holes for the bolts that hold the tire in place due to them being covered in powder coating. I had the tools to due this but could be a pain for someone who does not.

            Rock solid tire mount

This is an extremely heavy duty product. I have it installed on the Morryde tailgate reenforcement kit with hinges. My 33x10.5" tire on a 15x8" wheel sits about 5 inches away from the tailgate snubbers, even with extensions installed, rendering the snubbers useless. I wish it sat closer to the tailgate, because it is pretty far out. However, the mount is incredibly rigid. I cannot get the tire to budge at all even when putting force on it, so I don't think vibration will be an issue. This thing is tough. On the plus side, now that I have this gap, I think I will make a mount for my recovery traction ramps (Tred 1100s), because they fit perfectly behind the tire now (I don't have the factory 3rd brake light installed). For the money, this is a great deal, especially considering it is probably stronger than more expensive options out there. Regarding tire/wheel fit, it says 35" is the max size, but I could easily fit a 37" on it. It's got a lot of room and strength to spare. Another thing to note is that the tire mounting surface is tilted so the tire sits on an angle leaning forward, sort of Baja-style. I kind of would've preferred a vertical mounting surface, but I've already gotten complements on the look. It's just something to be aware of.

            Reliable and Simple

Currently running a 31x10.5x15 M/T and this basic spare mount runs amazing for just $59. Affordable and basic for smaller tires. Personally recommend getting the Spartacus hinge for any tire 33 or bigger.

            Rear mount

Great rear mount. It looked flimsy online and it looked flimsy when I opened the box but let me tell you it is tough. Very sturdy and heavy. Hasn’t moved at all since I mounted it with the spare months ago. Great product and very affordable. Even if you don’t feel like you need a new mount, if you have upgraded wheels on a stock mount, get this mount instead. I have 32”X11.75” wheels and the poor stock mount snapped right off my back end when I landed a jump. Don’t risk breaking your rig. Get the right gear.

            Bolt patterns about 1/2" off

Not sure what happened here...The bolt pattern does not line up. Its about 1/2" for each bolt, so doesn't align with my tire at all. Have tried to us other holes out of desperation, but nothing aligns. Pretty disappointed.

The original tire mount on my Jeep stud broke off so I purchased this one perfect fit and heavy-duty looks better than stock! And even comes with the hardware for your third brake light. Love the look of it and recommend to others. Thanks ExtremeTerrain
