Ryan: The Rugged Ridge HD Spartacus Tire Carrier Wheel Mount is for those of you that have the 1987 all the way up through the 2006 YJ or TJ that are looking for a stronger spare tire mount that's going to replace the factory one, that is going to allow you to carry a larger and heavier spare tire without some of the issues that you can have when trying to mount a big heavy spare in the factory location. Now, this can be used on its own just as you see it, or it can be used with the Rugged Ridge Spartacus HD tire carrier kit that's going to replace the hinges and also beef up the rest of the tailgate. Now if you use this with the rest of that kit, it is going to, again, beef up the hinges, beef up the tailgate, and also replace the mount, so you're going to solve all three of the issues that you can have when mounting a big heavy spare tire on the Jeep. Now if you are just mounting this piece on, I'm going to give it a two out of three wrenches. Pretty straightforward, you do have to take apart a little bit of wiring with the third brake light, but overall, pretty simple. I'm going to show you how to do it. So I mentioned before, you have three main issues when you put a big heavy spare on your factory location. One is that the hinges can eventually sag. You'll have to pick up on the tailgate every time you open it and close it. Two, the tailgate itself, the welds can start to come apart when you have all that additional weight bouncing around on there. And then three, the tire carrier itself, the place that the spare tire actually mounts onto is a piece of steel that's really designed for a specific weight and not for something much heavier like a big spare tire. So again, this is going to solve that last problem. This is a much heavier piece of steel, so you're not going to have to worry about the tire mount itself fatiguing and wearing out like you would that factory one, and this is also going to allow you to mount that tire up a little bit higher so you're not going to have as many clearance issues with the tire and the bumper. But this is not going to solve the problem of the tailgate welds for the hinges wearing out. In order to fix that, you'll also have to get the rest of the Spartacus HD mounting kit from Rugged Ridge or another option. So do keep that in mind. This is going to solve a couple problems for you, but not be the end all be all.As far as what it is designed to do though, it is very, very well-built. This is some really heavy gauge steel. Of course, it's covered in a textured black powder coat finish just like you would expect from Rugged Ridge or most of the other aftermarket companies. This does allow you to use that factory third brake light mount. So that is going to bolt right onto here, and that way, you don't have to go and try and find one of those mounts that goes in the center of the spare tire or a relocation bracket or anything like that. You're gonna be able to bolt that right up on here, which is something that I like. The other thing that I like about this is the price. This is going to be fairly inexpensive, coming in at right around that $60 mark. I think that's pretty fair for what you're getting here. This is a pretty decent size hunk of steel for 60 bucks. But again, if you're looking for a complete solution that's going to solve all of your problems and all your worries when mounting a big heavy spare tire on the back of your Jeep, this is only going to be one piece of that. So two out of three wrenches to get this installed, let's show you how to do it.Male: Tools used for this install are 21-millimeter socket, 13-millimeter socket, short 3/8 extension, 3/8 impact gun, 1/2-inch impact gun. We do have our spare tire already removed. We're going to be using a 13-millimeter socket here and we're gonna remove the five bolts that hold our spare tire carrier to the vehicle. All right. Once we've got our stock tire carrier removed, we're ready to install our new one. I'm gonna line up our holes and I'm gonna get a couple of bolts started here. All right. And I'm gonna use the same 13-millimeter socket to go through and tighten these up now. Now, depending on what type of wheel you have on your Jeep, your lug nuts are gonna vary for where you want to put them here. We're gonna be using the two outer holes and the center hole right here. So I'm gonna start the studs that are provided. And once you've got your studs installed, you can go ahead and mount up your spare tire. That's gonna wrap up our review and install.
