Key Features. Boost the efficiency of your Jeep's air conditioning and heater with this Cowl Vent Scoop, made by Rugged Ridge. The scoop helps direct fresh air into the vent better than with the stock setup. The scoop looks pretty cool once installed, with a smoked finish that you can still see the vent through. The opening can either point toward the front of your vehicle, or backward toward the windshield, whichever is your preference. As an added plus, the modification also guards against water coming through the vent and making its way into the tub. installation is easy.

Construction. The smoked acrylic Rugged Ridge uses to make this Cowl Vent Scoop is designed to be durable. It can handle being left out in the elements, including harsh sunlight and freezing temperatures, without cracking or failing in other ways. Automotive grade double sided tape comes with the scoop, which is also designed to maintain its adhesion in varying temperatures and while being exposed to debris or moisture.

Installation. You don't need any tools or to make modifications to your Jeep to install the Cowl Vent Scoop. The installation process should take less than an hour of your time, and can be performed by just about anyone. You do need to wash the area around the vent thoroughly, removing any dirt or other debris so the tape can adhere properly. Dry the area completely as well, using a microfiber towel so you don't leave behind lint. You should dry fit the scoop first, so you know exactly how you want to position it. Peel off the protective film from the tape and press the scoop in to place, holding it there firmly for at least 30 seconds. Take extra care with the scoop for the first 24 hours to ensure proper adhesion.

Application. The Rugged Ridge Cowl Vent Scoop is designed to fit on all 1987-2006 Jeep Wranglers (YJ/TJ).

It looks from the photos, that it is too short to fit the 97 with three vents across the cowl. It would have to be 29" long to cover all three. I can not find the dimensions of this anywhere.

        • The Rugged Ridge Smoke Plastic Molded Air Scoop is approximately 19" x 6".

With the vent installed, will it prevent the wiper fluid from hitting the windshield? The vent looks as tall or taller than the hood spray nozzelso in front of the vent.

        • When installed properly, the Rugged Ridge Smoke Plastic Molded Air Scoop should not block the washer nozzles.

Looking for a scoop to help keep the rain from entering the interior of the vehicle. But the description states this is secured with "tape" seriously? Do you have one that secures with "anchors" of some sort?

        • Hello, This scoop is not designed to keep rainwater out. If rainwater is leaking in to the interior of your jeep, there may be other issues at play. I would thoroughly check the firewall and all the weather stripping for and cracks or rust. As far as the tape that holds this in place, it is not weak in anyway shape or form. I ran this scoop on a 1999 TJ for several years of daily driving with no issues at all. If you did want to anchor this down though, it would be a simple task of drilling holes and screwing it down.

4 2001 Wrangler - Geo Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

Kinda flimsy, but does the job

Was skeptical about the supplied adhesive tape staying put, but it's been there for six months now. Helps keep debris out of cowel and directs air well. Worth it.

            4 1989 Wrangler - BigRickyBoy

            I returned it

This didn’t fit the way I expected. It was bigger than I thought and I didn’t want to use tape to install it on my YJ. It seemed like it was well made.

            3 2005 Rubicon - BDC1 Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

            Good, with a couple negatives

Installed easily, I was sceptic about how well the tape would hold it on, but- no problems yet. Looks cool, I painted it matte back and mounted it with the opening towards the windshield. I just wish that there was a little plastic piece to block the opening on rainy days to keep water from pouring into the cowl vent.

            5 1999 - Bob7 Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

            plastic molded air scoop

Smoke tinted plastic molded air scoop blends very well, over the air intake slots at the base of the windsheild. This was the best available solution and it looks really smart on my vintage black & tan Wrangler TJ. Debris had become a problem, by clogging the drain for water to flow away in front of the firewall. This has been a good device for deflecting twigs and leaves that have fallen onto the hood and windsheild. Overflow, after an ocassional carwash, flooded the front passenger side floor making me aware of the issue.
