      Video Review & Installation

Merideth: Hey, guys. So, today, we're taking a look at the Rough Country Folding Tailgate Table fitting all 2018 and newer JL Wranglers. Now, this table will be an affordable option for the JL owner looking to maximize the usable space inside of their Jeep. Now, this built-in table can be used in a number of different ways like stopping for lunch while you're out on the trail, holding tools while you're working in the back of your Jeep, or even just having a stuffed-up spot to put your stuff down while you're in and out of your Wrangler. Not to mention, this will be incredibly compact. So if you are concerned about maximizing the space inside of your cargo area, this is going to stay out of the way, of course, until you need it. Now, when it comes to the construction, this will have a steel frame and an aluminum table, and will have a pretty high weight capacity for what it is being very impressive at right around that 75-pound mark, which is, again, impressive for how lightweight this table is. This will also have a nice black powder coat finish, of course, will match with any other texture black accessories inside or outside of the Jeep while also protecting those metals underneath. Now, the table will feature two cup holders, and it's going to have some cutouts for some sporty styling, while also being able to expel any liquids or spills which is especially great if you're stopping for lunch while you're out on the trail like I mentioned before, or if you get caught in the rain. Now, this will also have a rattle-free design with rubber bumpers that are included in the kit, which I personally like. It makes everything quiet while you're driving on the street, daily driving your Wrangler, or if you're bumping around on the trail. Now, like I mentioned, this will be one of your most affordable choices for your tailgate table coming in at roughly $100.Now, comparing this to other options, this will have a one-tier design or will have one table, and some other choices may have two tables or two tiers in the design. Not to mention, this will also just be very straightforward and pretty simple as far as the design is concerned. Some other choices will have different bells and whistles. They may have specific attachments, or pouches, or some other items, as to where this, again, is simple and to the point, but I personally like the simplicity. It gives you the function that you need without any frills and also you're saving a couple bucks in the long run.As far as install is concerned, this will be very straightforward but will require a little bit of drilling. So I am going to give it a 2 out of 3 wrenches on the difficulty meter, taking you about an hour to get the job done. Now, the tools that you'll need will include a trim removal tool. You're going to need a drill and a 1/2-inch drill bit, a 4-millimeter Allen key, a 10-millimeter wrench, and a 10-millimeter socket with a ratchet. Now, speaking of the install, one of our customers here has installed this on her JL and is going to walk you through the process step by step. Let's go ahead and get into the install.Woman: The tools that we're going to need today are an auto trim puller, a ratchet, a power drill, 1/2-inch drill bit, 4-millimeter Allen wrench, and a 10-millimeter wrench. Using an auto trim puller, remove the trim panel from the tailgate.Next, locate the plastic cylinder areas in the trim panel. There's one here and one here. If needed, hold the new table frame up to the tailgate and make a note of where the mounting holes are in the table frame that line up to the threaded holes in the tailgate. For expediency purposes, we've already done that and verified these line up. Next, we're going to drill the clearance hole using a 1/2-inch drill bit.Next, locate the two dimples in the bottom of the tailgate trim panel, one here and one here. If needed, hold the new table frame up to the tailgate and make a note of where the mounting holes are in the table frame that line up with the threaded holes in the tailgate. For expediency, we have already done that and verified they match up. Now, I'm going to drill a clearance hole using the 1/2-inch drill bit. Next, install the trim panel back onto the tailgate. Next, install the four supplied spacers into the drill holes in the trim panel. When you put them in, be careful and make sure that you do not let them fall into the door. The spacers fit and level out pretty nicely here, but keep in mind that at the bottom, you want to leave them so they're going to tip down just a little or you really risk them falling into the trim panel between that and the door. For this next step, use 2 of the smaller supplied spacers and 2 of the 6-millimeter by 50-millimeter bolts to install with the top of this to the trim tailgate. One thing to note is that you will have to open the tailgate top, and then you're going to put one of the spacers here and put the bolt through it to feed that through, and then do the same for the other side. Now, we're gonna take it over to our tailgate and line it up for attachment. Next, so you have the tabletop lined up, you may want to get a second set of hands for this. Make sure you have your 4-millimeter Allen wrench, and you're going to go ahead and use that to connect these to your tailgate. I would recommend, since this takes quite a bit of time, that you would want to see if you have a power drill and a connection that you're going to go ahead and use a 4-millimeter Allen wrench connection to your power drill and use that to tighten these. To make this a bit quicker, I'm going to go ahead and use a 4-millimeter Allen wrench fit with my power drill. And I'm going to go ahead and tighten these down, being sure not to over tighten them. For this next step, we need to first remove the hardware that is at the lower edge of our table. This is so we can actually install the hardware directly in the next step. Use the open end to hold this side while you loosen and remove this first piece of hardware. As a tip, if you happen to have a 10-millimeter socket, I would recommend using that instead to make this a much faster process. So we've removed the hardware from the lower piece making sure we reserve that, and we're going to let the table hang. The next step is to take these two 6-millimeter by 50-millimeter bolts as well as the 6-millimeter washers that came with it and install those into this area here and this area here, making sure it's lined up.Next, we want to reinstall the hardware that we took out at the hinge points here. To make this a little bit easier for yourself, I would recommend using the hooks up top to keep that in place while you're reinstalling this. For this next part, go ahead and use your same 10-millimeter open-end wrench as well as a 4-millimeter Allen wrench and get them tightened back in place. Go ahead and lower the table and tighten up the additional hardware up on top as well. For this next step, install the two provided rubber snubber mounts. Just simply take that, press firmly, and put it in each one of these areas. So now we've successfully installed our Rough Country Tailgate Table for our 2021 Jeep JL. Be sure to test it out, release the table, and enjoy.Merideth: So that is going to wrap it up for my review and the install of the Rough Country Folding Tailgate Table fitting all 2018 and newer JL Wranglers.
