Merideth: If you're looking for a better way to carry more cargo for your overlanding adventures, or just everyday life in your 2005 or newer Double Cab Toyota Tacoma, this RedRock HD Roof Rack will be a great addition to your build. And this will completely cover the roof with a platform-style setup with multiple cross bars, allowing you more space to keep larger cargo and accessories that would otherwise take up space in your bed. And the rack will also assist in just more of an off-road look to the truck with the solid build and the low profile design. This will feature four heavy-duty cross bars to be able to handle up to 350 pounds, making this perfect for that heavier cargo that you don't want to weigh down the back of your truck. The front of the rack will also feature a wind guard to help out with your aerodynamics and will come with auxiliary light mounts so you can have better visibility at night, whether you're on road or off road. Now, the cross bars will also include accessory tracks for universal accessory mounting so you can customize this to your personal preference.Getting into the build, half of the rack or the frame here is going to be made of a steel construction for strength and durability. Now, the crossbars, however, will have an aluminum construction to offer weight savings to your build while still being incredibly strong. Now, this entire thing is also gonna come with a textured black color coat finish on top to protect the steel and the aluminum from the elements while matching any other heavy-duty accessories that you currently have on your truck. When it comes to price, the rack will come in at roughly $500, which is relatively affordable compared to other choices. Now, when taking a look at some others in the category, this will be simple and to the point, while still offering you a lot of space, tie-down areas, high load capacity, and options for accessory lighting. Now, other choices may be similar in design yet include different features like cutouts or flush mounted lighting or even a different low capacity. Now, I think if you're looking for a good rack that's going to come with everything that you need to offer you the space for your adventures, then this is gonna be it.Now, install is gonna be a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, taking you about two hours to get the job done with some basic hand tools. Now, at this point, we're gonna head over to the shop and check out a detailed breakdown of the install. So, that's gonna wrap it up for me, let's go ahead and get into it.Man: Tools required for this install include a couple of microfiber towels, a ratchet, a 14-millimeter wrench, a 4-millimeter Allen wrench, a 4 and 5-millimeter Allen socket, an extension, and a pair of diagonal cutters or scissors. What's up guys? Today we're gonna be installing a roof rack on our Tacoma, so let's get started. So, our first step is to remove the weather strip that's running across the top of our roof. Now, we can do that by starting at the back here. We're gonna pull up the back portion of our weather strip. And then once we have this removed, we can pull out the main portion. We pop that piece off, and then we can do that same thing on the other side. So, our first step is to mount our side rails. Now, the side with the pointed tip is gonna be going towards the front and then our brackets are gonna be pointed inward. So, we can lay our piece down roughly into position and then we can get our hardware started. So, we're going to be using our long bolts with a locking washer and a flat washer, going through the top, and then we have a spacer that's gonna go in between the roof of the truck and the bracket on our side rail. So, now we can take our spacer and line it up with our hole, and put our bolt down through our spacer. Now, once we have that lined up with our hole, we can start threading our bolts through. And then we can tighten those down using the included Allen wrench. Now, we're gonna leave these a little bit loose until we get all of our other bolts installed and then we can come back and tighten everything down. Now we can just continue working our way back. And now we can repeat that same process on the other side. So, our next step is to start installing our middle cross bars. Now, these are gonna go in these middle sets of holes here. So, we'll lay down our crossbar across the top, thread our bolts through on each side, and do that same thing for our next three. So, now we can install our first crossbar. I've got a microfiber on the other side so that we don't scratch up our paint while we get everything lined up. And then we're gonna be taking the thicker of our two bolts with a flat washer to thread in on each side, and then we can go to the other side and get our bolts installed and then we can tighten our bolts down. And now we can thread in our bolts on the other side. And then we can take a 5-millimeter Allen bit to tighten these down. Now we can take a 5-millimeter Allen to tighten these down. And once we're done with our first bar, we can repeat the same process for our other three middle bars. So, now once we have all four of our cross bars installed, we can go back and tighten down all the bolts on our side rails. So, we'll start with the front using a 4-millimeter Allen bit to tighten these down. Now, on our frontmost bolt on our rear bracket on our side rail, we don't have enough room to get in there with a socket, so we'll take that 4-millimeter Allen wrench that was included in our kit to tighten that down. And then we can do that same thing on the other side rail. So, next, we can install our rear rail. Now, we're going to be using the same bolts that we did for our cross rails with a flat washer. And then on the inside, we're gonna be using another flat washer and a nut. And now on the backside, we'll put that flat washer and our nut. Now, we'll do the same thing on this side with our flat washer and our nut. And then to tighten this down we can take a 5-millimeter Allen bit as well as a 14-millimeter wrench and then we'll do that same thing on that other side. Now, for our front bar, we have a weather strip that's gonna go across the bottom edge here. It's also the curved edge just to make it clear. So, it has this edge that you can open up and press onto the lip. So we'll run it all the way across our bottom edge and then cut it on the other side with a pair of scissors or diagonal cutters. Then once we get to the other side, we can cut off our excess, and now we're ready to get this installed onto the truck. So, now we can install our front bar. Once again I've got a microfiber on the other side just so we don't scratch up our paint. And now we'll be doing the same combination of hardware that we did for our rearmost bar. So, we'll put our bolts with our washers through. And then on the backside, we'll get another washer and then we can install our nuts. And now we can do that same thing on this side. And then once we have all of our hardware installed, we can take that 14-millimeter wrench and 5-millimeter Allen bit to tighten these down. And now lastly we can tighten the other side. So, that'll wrap up this review and install of the RedRock HD Roof Rack for your 2005 and newer Tacoma Double Cab. Thank you for watching. And for all things Tacoma, keep it right here at extremeterrain.com
