Little mods are often the most noticeable when you're paying attention to detail, and these grille inserts by RedRock 4x4 are a perfect example of that. These billet inserts will be the most affordable way to give your grill of your '97 to '06 TJ a more completed look without picking up a completed overlay. And they do a lot of justice for the front end by giving it a subtle blacked out look. With the added style, you're also getting added function, too. By adding these inserts, you'll have some additional protection so that debris won't be able to get into your radiator, a nice little bonus when you're off road. This is an easy, no-drill install. So I have to get this one a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and I'll get into that in just a moment. These seven-slot grille inserts are pretty well made, considering they're made from a billet aluminum. This is a lot better than an extruded aluminum since the billet is solid and it'll last a lot longer than extruded metal. On the outside, they have a black powder coat finish to protect the inserts from any unwanted corrosion, and it also makes them look more tough, complementing that blacked out look that I talked about. We also offer this in a polished finish as well. So if you were looking for more of a classic chrome look, we have you covered. Each insert comes with two metal brackets for each slot to hold the inserts in place. What I like about that is that the inserts only sit in the inside and behind the slot itself and they don't border the grille slots like some other options do. I think this design is still very noticeable but it's a more subdued look and not over-the-top. If you were looking for a more noticeable grille insert that surrounded each slot with a border that also still has the inner fins, I would recommend checking out the rugged ridge aluminum grille insert kit. Like I said, right now, this is the most affordable option if you were looking for a grille insert that covers the whole slot at around $75. Now, there are a couple other options for grille inserts and overlays on the page to spice up your front end. There are options that are less expensive but they simply outline the seven slots instead of putting a thin protector inside to fill it. There is only one other option by T-Rex that is the same billet insert design. These are gonna jump up about $170 from the RedRock inserts because of the very high quality of the item. Quality here is still carried by the RedRock inserts. So if you don't need the highest quality insert and you're looking for a very affordable way to brighten up your grille, this option will be the best. This is a no-drill, completely bolt-on install, like I said before, making this a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. You're gonna need a couple of hand tools and about a half hour worth of your time to get everything installed. I recommend loosely installing the hardware while the inserts are off of the Jeep. Then starting at one side of the grille, tighten the lower hardware assembly and put the bottom of the insert in the grille first, pushing in the top. Then you can reach through the grille opening to flip the mounting tab over the factory grille and tighten it down with the Philips head screwdriver and a seven-millimeter socket or seven-millimeter wrench. I would recommend doing all six inserts on the outside and saving the center grille opening for last for the best accessibility. For the last grille insert, tighten the lower hardware, place it into the grille opening, and reach through the hole in the radiator support to flip the mounting tab into position. Then you can tighten everything down to complete the install. So if you're looking for a small but noticeable upgrade to the front of your TJ, these billet inserts by RedRock 4x4 are a great option for you.
