    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com and this is my review of the Recon Smoked Turn Signals with Amber LEDs fitting all 2007 to 20016 JKs. These turn signals are also available with clear lenses so you can customize the look of your Jeep. These turn signals are for anyone looking to get that smoked or stealthy look on the front of their Jeep. There are a few different ways to accomplish that look, but these are a nice, easy, plug and play solution and you get the benefit of an LED so you're going to have that crisp clean on and off and a nice, bright light that's going to last a long time. Now these are a little bit more expensive than other LED turn signals on the market, but Recon has a reputation for making a really high quality product and with these, you really do get what you pay for. Recon makes a really high quality light. These are designed to be plug and play and they'll snap right into the factory mounting locations in the grill and plug right into the factory wiring harness. Now the housing and the lense are high-quality and well built, but what's more important is the actual LED inside the light. Anytime you smoke a lense, there's a chance you could lose some brightness so the LED's that Recon uses are really, really bright and you'll get a lot of that back. Also, having a high-quality LED means it's not going to burn out for a really long time. These'll last a lot longer than a factory incandescent bulb. Now sometimes when you install an LED in a turn signal, you can have a hyper flash situation. That's when the computer of the Jeep thinks that your LED bulb is burnt out and it let's you know that by flashing the turn signal twice as fast as it normally would. That's due to the lower resistance of an LED as opposed to an incandescent bulb. Recon takes care of that by providing a load resistor in their kit. Now we installed these lights on both a 2010 JK and a 2015 JK and neither of them had the hyper flash situation even without the load resisters. But it's really nice that Recon includes them just in case you need them. Like I said, these lights are designed to be completely plug and play and the installation is really simple. We got these installed on our Jeep by removing the grill. To do that, there are a couple of plastic clips you have to remove from the top of the grill. The whole grill will pop out. You can remove the factory lights by just compressing the plastic clips, unplug them, pop the new lights in and put the new grill back into place. There actually aren't any tools necessary for this installation, but you might want to have a screwdriver handy to remove the plastic clips. Another way to get these installed if you don't want to remove your grill and if you don't have factor inner fenders is right from inside the fender well. We've had some success doing that as well and it can shave down installation time even more. No matter how you decide to get these installed, the entire installation should take less than a half an hour, maybe a little bit more if you have to install the load resisters, but even in that case, Recon includes everything you need from vampire clips to all the wire. Like I said at the beginning, these are a little bit more expensive than some other LED turn signals on the market, but there's a reason for that. You really do get what you pay for. These lights are going to snap right into the factory locations, the wiring is going to plug right into the factory wiring harness, and most importantly, the LED's are going to be really bright and they're going to last a really long time for you. In my opinion, if you're going to do LED turn signals, it's worth spending a little bit of extra money and only having to do it once. So if you're looking for that stealthy smoke look on the front end of your Jeep, I highly recommend the Recon lights. You're going to spend a little bit more money up front but you're going to get a really high quality product that's going to install really easily and last a long time. This kit is complete even if you need the load resisters to take care of the hyper flash situation and the install could not be any easier. So that's my review of the Recon Smoke Turn Signals with Amber LED's available for all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Aggressive Styling. Give your JK an aggressive and blacked out look with the Recon Smoked Turn Signals with Amber LEDs. When not in use these lights provide a tough, blacked out appearance that is street legal and approved for use by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA.) Each light is filled with super bright amber LEDs to ensure proper signaling and superior function on road.

Easy Installation. Designed as a direct replacement for your factory turn signals, these smoked signal lenses install painlessly without modification or additional parts. Made to exceed OEM specifications, these quality lights are 100% plug and play giving you full security in performance and function, no matter where the road or trail takes you.

Application. The Recon Smoked Turn Signals with Amber LEDs are specifically designed for use in 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK models.

Does it need a resistor because it's an LED light? I put another brand in my jeep but I keep getting a code that my turn signal is out.

Where does the wire hanging connect to?

    • The additional wire on the Recon Smoked Turn Signals with Amber LEDs is a load equalizer, and will connect to any good chassis ground.

      Recon Smoked Turn Signal

Well its definitely not plug and play for 2016 wranglers but once I realized how to wire the resistors in it was a pretty simple task. The lights themselves look and feel ok, they definitely are not as bright as the OEM lights, but I was going for the smoked look and was less concerned with the brightness. I did find that the blue clips they do include in the resistor kit (necessary for 16' sahara) do not crimp the wires properly therefore I got the dashboard bulb out notice and experienced a hyper-flash on the turn signal. I made a small crimp myself and exposed the wire and that made the proper circuit connection needed to stabilize the signal. Other than that small headache these look pretty good and function as needed. I ordered the fender ones which I will install this week, hearing they are a pain to install so I will review them as well.

Look great, but thats about all

should have been a plug and plan on a '16, however the plug to the stock harness, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Had a swap back to stock to pass inspection.

      Very stylish look

I feel this product is very sleek looking and I like the smoked out look. I didn't install my light, because I purchased new headlights as well and had a local shop install the smoked lights at the same time. I will truly enjoy the lights and obvious the look!

      Recon is junk

Do not buy these. They are being discontinued and can’t be returned. Couldn’t get the hyper flash to go away. Recon customer service was shoddy at best. They told me I was doing something wrong and that’s the reason they wouldn’t work properly. Just beware and don’t waste your money on their product.

      Dim lighs

These lights are very expensive for what you get they feel cheap and flimsy and they are very dim, however I did get the smoked lenses so I knew they would not be super bright, but the extreme terrain YouTube channel said they are very bright high-quality that's why they're so expensive they are not very bright hard to see in the daylight but they do look good on the Jeep that is why I gave them three stars

A simple snap to replace the OEM lights, a bit of work to wire in the resistors but not a big deal.

Nice mod, but requires more work for 2015 Jeeps

If you’re looking for a smoked turn signal for the front of your Jeep, this LED kit from Recon is great. However, if you have a 2015 or newer Jeep the install can be more involved than a simple plug and play. The lights come with a wiring harness that is designed to plug into the factory harness, but if you have a newer Jeep the LED signal will result in Hyper Flashing and a missing/damaged bulb error. Recon provides load resistors that will require some wiring work in order to solve the hyper flashing issue. You’ll then need to mount the load resistors on a flat metal surface and away from any oil or wiring because it gets very hot. So overall, this is a great easy to install, simple plug and play mod for Jeeps older than 2015. Newer Jeeps will require more work.
