    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com and this is my review of the Recon Smoked Turn Signals with Amber LEDs fitting all 2007 to 20016 JKs. These turn signals are also available with clear lenses so you can customize the look of your Jeep. These turn signals are for anyone looking to get that smoked or stealthy look on the front of their Jeep. There are a few different ways to accomplish that look, but these are a nice, easy, plug and play solution and you get the benefit of an LED so you're going to have that crisp clean on and off and a nice, bright light that's going to last a long time. Now these are a little bit more expensive than other LED turn signals on the market, but Recon has a reputation for making a really high quality product and with these, you really do get what you pay for. Recon makes a really high quality light. These are designed to be plug and play and they'll snap right into the factory mounting locations in the grill and plug right into the factory wiring harness. Now the housing and the lense are high-quality and well built, but what's more important is the actual LED inside the light. Anytime you smoke a lense, there's a chance you could lose some brightness so the LED's that Recon uses are really, really bright and you'll get a lot of that back. Also, having a high-quality LED means it's not going to burn out for a really long time. These'll last a lot longer than a factory incandescent bulb. Now sometimes when you install an LED in a turn signal, you can have a hyper flash situation. That's when the computer of the Jeep thinks that your LED bulb is burnt out and it let's you know that by flashing the turn signal twice as fast as it normally would. That's due to the lower resistance of an LED as opposed to an incandescent bulb. Recon takes care of that by providing a load resistor in their kit. Now we installed these lights on both a 2010 JK and a 2015 JK and neither of them had the hyper flash situation even without the load resisters. But it's really nice that Recon includes them just in case you need them. Like I said, these lights are designed to be completely plug and play and the installation is really simple. We got these installed on our Jeep by removing the grill. To do that, there are a couple of plastic clips you have to remove from the top of the grill. The whole grill will pop out. You can remove the factory lights by just compressing the plastic clips, unplug them, pop the new lights in and put the new grill back into place. There actually aren't any tools necessary for this installation, but you might want to have a screwdriver handy to remove the plastic clips. Another way to get these installed if you don't want to remove your grill and if you don't have factor inner fenders is right from inside the fender well. We've had some success doing that as well and it can shave down installation time even more. No matter how you decide to get these installed, the entire installation should take less than a half an hour, maybe a little bit more if you have to install the load resisters, but even in that case, Recon includes everything you need from vampire clips to all the wire. Like I said at the beginning, these are a little bit more expensive than some other LED turn signals on the market, but there's a reason for that. You really do get what you pay for. These lights are going to snap right into the factory locations, the wiring is going to plug right into the factory wiring harness, and most importantly, the LED's are going to be really bright and they're going to last a really long time for you. In my opinion, if you're going to do LED turn signals, it's worth spending a little bit of extra money and only having to do it once. So if you're looking for that stealthy smoke look on the front end of your Jeep, I highly recommend the Recon lights. You're going to spend a little bit more money up front but you're going to get a really high quality product that's going to install really easily and last a long time. This kit is complete even if you need the load resisters to take care of the hyper flash situation and the install could not be any easier. So that's my review of the Recon Smoke Turn Signals with Amber LED's available for all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Aggressive Styling. Give your JK an aggressive and blacked out look with the Recon Smoked Turn Signals with Amber LEDs. When not in use these lights provide a tough, blacked out appearance that is street legal and approved for use by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA.) Each light is filled with super bright amber LEDs to ensure proper signaling and superior function on road.

Easy Installation. Designed as a direct replacement for your factory turn signals, these smoked signal lenses install painlessly without modification or additional parts. Made to exceed OEM specifications, these quality lights are 100% plug and play giving you full security in performance and function, no matter where the road or trail takes you.

Application. The Recon Smoked Turn Signals with Amber LEDs are specifically designed for use in 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK models.

Does it need a resistor because it's an LED light? I put another brand in my jeep but I keep getting a code that my turn signal is out.

    • Hello, on this kit no resistors should be needed.

Hyper Flash and lights are angled in

Great looking lights but the resistors had to be installed due to hyper flash and had to get creative to find s spot to make sure they get plenty of air. They do get really hot. For some odd reason the lights are angled in a little bit but it’s not anything that takes away from the appearance of them. For the most part. I’m pretty happy with them and they look great

Review from Recon Turn Signals with Amber LEDs (07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK)

      Fast Flash Garbage

This product has one star because the web page won't allow for a zero star review. I ordered the Recon marker and turn signal LEDs to replace the cheap LED lights I picked up on Amazon, which are yellowing badly. I was under the impression that they'd be well-built, high quality and, most importantly, plug and play. I was incorrect. At least these take the standard JK wire harness (unlike the marker lights). That is the sum total of my positive review comments on these turn signals. Both left and right signals hyperflash and the included resistors require using vampire clips on the factory wiring harness in a high moisture area. This is unacceptable on an item of this price. The $40 cheapo Amazon lights didn't hyperflash, so the technology certainly exists. Because I already installed these (and stupidly threw out the box), I can't return them, so this is an expensive lesson for me. I have already ordered a better set of signals (unfortunately from another seller- I wish that Extreme Terrain would carry the new JW Speaker signals and dump Recon), and will look to either simply toss these in the garbage, or give them to someone who likes hyperflash junk. Totally not worth the cost, and disappointing.

      Looks great!

Easy to install and looks great. Gives you the blacked out look if that’s what your going for. It does hyper blink sometimes if you don’t install the resistor, but doesn’t bother me.

Please read if your considering these

I bought these And the side marker lights for my 2013 JKSU. The fit and look was exactly what I wanted....Then I plugged them in. I had the dreaded hyper flash, or no signal or no side markers. Ok, no big deal, I then hooked up the resistors included with the lights. Once again, no luck. Recon’s customer service is awful. I called 3 times, speaking with 2 different “techs”. The first one said I should use the included resistors and double check my connections... he also stated that in the 6 years of working there he has “Never” had this problem. Naturally I thought I did something wrong so I tried to tighten up all of the connections and nothing, same results. I called again and spoke to a different tech. He told me to try ataching the black wire to a grounding point on the frame. Cool, there are at least 3 under the hood so I did. Nothing... I then called back, got the same guy and told him no luck. He explained that in his time there he’s never heard of the issue either... I asked what could be done? Larger resistors? “No, the ones we include always work”... I gave into the failure and decided to just unhook them and send them back. It was then that I started doing all sorts of research. I took a chance and ordered a 4 pack of 50watt 6 ohm resistors from Amazon for $7.99. (which are much larger than the 5 watt supplied) Bam!! Installed and they work! Not perfectly mind you. The fender or side markers do not blink but these do! So i guess it’s a win. In the end, you will absolutely need additional resistors. The ones included were either defective or not strong enough. Either way, Recon was awful to deal with and not helpful AT ALL!! As you start to research you will find that most people have had the same issue and yet recon does nothing about it! And blames the user. Again, I do like the fit and look just be prepared to buy additional resistors if they don’t plug and play.

      OK but not great

This product looks great installed especially with other smoke lighting accents (request was for Amber but I actually purchased smoke). But the whole process of installing the load resistor seems to be a requirement and in the install video on the product page - the presenter says you may need it. I've talked to people, and all of them had the issue with 14/15's and earlier. If it comes as a part of the product, it should be clear how to install it. The instructions are laughable and should be a supplemental video or clear instructions should be available or provided. As others have commented, these lights are dimmer than you would expect from LED's. So just be aware. They do look nice installed, but be prepared to figure out the rapid blinking / resistor challenge without any guidance.

Plug and play if you are okay with hyper flash. They do come with resistors to wire in to fix this but i'm lazy so it doesn't bother me to much.

      Smoked turn signals

I bought these going by the sites review stating they were plug and play, they are not (Recon does send the resistors with it). I plugged them in and they initially worked, thought all was well. The next time I got in I could not get the hyperflash to stop and my jeep told me the turn signals were inop. Do not waste money on them, they are junk!

      Hyper flash issues

Original set I purchased and we couldn’t eliminate hyper flashing on either side. These include resistors that are supposed to eliminate that problem. Sent them back for a new pair and one side still had hyper flash. Purchased new resistors from auto parts store, still didn’t fix the issue. Returning these and looking for a different brand.

Love the appearance of the smoke turn signal. My only issue is with the resistors that come with it appear to not be helping prevent it throwing codes acting as if the turn signals are out. Other than that looks great.

Lights look and function great only 4 stars because the supplied splicing clips are the wrong size, you'll need the smaller red ones if you plan to use that type of splice for the load resistor.

Review from Recon Turn Signals with Amber LEDs (07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK)

      Pay Close attention

First and foremost, this product as packaged is NOT PLUG AND PLAY. Plug and play indicates you simply access the old lights, plug in the new ones and you're done, nothing else to do. Not the case here. If your turn signal works properly after putting the new lights on then yes, this product is plug and play. But, like most who have bought this product, you need to attach a resister. Attaching the resister requires a voltmeter, extra wire, spicing and connectors, a drill and drill bit. They do supply some sort of wire clips but they are worthless. The resister needs to be attached to metal to help disperse the heat the resister puts out. I drilled a small starter hole then screwed in the screws provided and attached the resister to the the light frame. Not a big job, but it does take some time if your not good at this sort of thing. The lights pop into the grill ok but they are not as bright as I would have hoped, for the price. They are on and they look good. So, all done. I'm just letting you know it's more then just pluggin in and your done.
