Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com and this is my review of the Raxiom LED Fog Lights, fitting all 2007 and 2016 Wranglers with the factory plastic front bumper, or an after market front bumper that accepts the factory fog lights. These will not fit in the metal mopar bumper on some special edition Wranglers. These lights are good for those of you who want to upgrade your factory fog lights to something that will bolt right in the same location and produce a ton more light. I also really like these for those of you who have other LED lights on your Jeep, whether they're LED headlights or LED auxiliary lights, and you want something that matches color temperature. You guys who are running LED lights know that there's a really stark contrast between the yellow factory fog lights and the bright white of an LED light. And, what I really like about these lights in particular is they give you a high quality bright light all without going into that top tier price range. These lights feature a black die-cast housing with a poly-carbonate lens that is bolted into a plastic mount that allows you to put these lights in the factory mounting location without any drilling or cutting. As you can see, the lights come with a small pigtail and a plug, and a little harness. So, you will have to do some wiring to get these lights lit. But, the plug in ensures that you'll be able to easily remove and reinstall your bumper down the line. Each light has three separate projectors inside to give you a really crisp, clean cut-off, so when these are in properly you're definitely not going to blind oncoming traffic. The actual LEDs inside the light are Cree LED's that produce 3,000 lumens at a 6,000K color temperature. So like I said before, they're going to match your other auxiliary LED lights. Everything is sealed up and has an IP67 waterproof rating and a limited lifetime warranty. These lights are designed to mount directly in the factory fog light locations without any drilling or cutting. The harnesses that come with the lights make it really convenient to unplug the lights when you're uninstalling or reinstalling the front bumper, but you will have to do some wiring to get these lit up. You'll need a screwdriver and a small socket set, as well as some wiring tools. Raxiom does offer a wiring harness that will make that process easier. That includes a switch, a relay, a fuse and all the wiring that's necessary, but you will still have to make some crimp or solder connections. A lot of you are wondering, how do I get these to come on with the factory fog light switch in my Jeep? Well, it is possible. It's not going to be plug and play, but if you know anything about automotive wiring, you will be able to get it done. Just a tip, if you do attempt that, you will want to install some type of anti-flicker mechanism, or relay, to keep these from strobing. Because the lights do have projectors and a sharp cut-off, they only install one way. You'll want to have the larger tab with the two holes on the bottom. Unfortunately, when you install them that way, it means that the adjustment screw is a little bit difficult to get to. So you might need to install and uninstall these a few times with a temporary power source to make sure that they're aimed properly. With these lights, I think you get a lot of value for what you pay. There are some more expensive fog light upgrades out there that might be plug and play, or have some other features, but these are really high quality light with a ton of light output, all at a fair price. So, if you want to upgrade your factory fog lights to something that will produce a lot more light, or that matches the color temperature of your other LED lights, these will accomplish both of those things all in a well built and well priced package. So that's my review of the Raxiom LED Fog Lights fitting all 2007 and 2016 JK's. You can find them right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Will these Raxiom LED Fog Lights (07-17 Wrangler JK) work with factory wiring for my 07 Wrangler and be able to use factory switch built into the head light/turn signal switch with no additional wiring other that wiring them to the factory Black/White wires that run to my factory fog lights?. Thanks,

Wolf

  • Hello, yes, these Fog Lights are meant to splice into the Factory wiring, allowing to use the factory switch.

I purchased a set of Recon smoked fog lights for my Jeep and had my mechanic install them. He advises that they do not plug into the same harness that came with my vehicle (which is a Black Mountain conversion). He hardwired them, but they will not work. He says the computer reads them as not functioning. I know they can be hardwired, but how? Do i need an adapter or a load resistor? He has inquired of Recon, but no word from them yet. This mechanic is good--he has installed successfully other led lights on the vehicle (headlights, taillights and turn signals) as well as a dual battery system and an air compressor system.

Installed the Raxiom LED Fog Lights, finally on my 75th Anniversary JKU. Had to get Maximus-3 fog light adapter for the factory metal bumper that the 75th and 10th Anniversary Rubicon bumpers. Overall, real pleased with the color and scope that the Fogs add to night driving. Install was easy after watching online videos. Would definitely recommend Raxiom products.

    Huge difference!

So much better than the stock lights. Low beam alone is fantastic. We paired them with the Raxiom fog lights and you don't even need to use high beam. The spread is great with no dark areas. We did have them installed and aimed by a local shop. So far we are very happy with the purchase.

    Too much trouble

The product looks nice but it is very difficult to install because of the awkward LED drivers that must be soldered into the system. Also, we don't like anything that requires you to cut a factory wiring harness.

"Not enough light? Try it now..."

These lights, when properly aimed, are shockingly bright and have a very good range. The light output is a crisp, blue / white light that functions more as a driving light than a fog light. I would say that they are a perfect match for the new Raxiom Smoked Headlights, and are a much better fit price wise than competing products. I had these installed and "aimed" by a body shop after taking out a deer, so I can't speak to the ease of install. The hardware is quality, with the connectors being well made. All in all, these will not dissapoint.

    Very bright

So, it would be good if it was more clear that you need to cut off your existing connectors to hook these things up. It is painful to sit there and re-wire the connectors on the car. It wouldn't be difficult to make them use the factory connectors... Also, they say you have to remove the bumper to do this replacement, which is not true. You don't even have to loosen it. You just have to remove the plastic panel between the bumper and the lower lip of the grill and extract the lights that way. All in all, a painful install. Do it at the same time you replace the head lights.

Great lights but a pain to install

The lights are great. They are beautiful and very bright. The instructions are good, except they leave it to you to figure out that you need to have some talent at wiring. I had recently moved and my tools were packed away when I did this. So I wasn't ready to be stripping and crimping. The factory wires are short once you cut off the factory fog light plugs, so you have to do the wiring right there in the bumper. Soldering would have been inordinately painful and so I used wire crimps. Not my favorite technique and still challenging, given the short wires. You don't have to take the bumper off. In fact, you don't even have to loosen it. If you want to remove the bumper, instructions state that you will need a 19 mm socket. In fact, it is an 18 mm socket and you will need a fairly heavy duty socket wrench, probably a half-inch drive. Is also limited room to maneuver. Not taking off the bumper does make it extremely difficult to get to the Phillips screws that hold the factory fog lights in, but it can be done. You will also need to remove the plastic piece in between the bumper and the grill so that you have enough room to extract the original fog lights.

    So far, so good

Well if your looking for a plug and play option these fog lights are not for you. If your not good at anything electrical especially soldering then take it to a shop. There is some light flickering until they get warmed up it seems but it's not extremely noticeable. They fit great and it will help you to remove the front bumper and have the front end up on jack stands. Will post an update later.

    Very Pleased!

These lights look great; they are VERY bright! The only reason I had a shop install them is because the wiring harness had been removed from the previous owner of my jeep. I suspect he had installed LEDs and wanted to take them to the next jeep he purchased.

Fits great, but is an electrical can of worms....

The bumper needs to be removed to access the fog lights. This took me an hour due to corroded bolts and poor metal design fabrication on Jeep's part. Once I got the lights in (5 min) I noticed that they flickered using the factory fog light wiring. I'd heard that there was data on the power wires and had a relay ready to go. When both power and ground are switched via relay ( using the factory fog light wires as relay control ) the lights are extremely bright and look great. In conclusion, have a 12 volt relay and enough wire to get to the battery with power and ground, and have patience enough to get the bumper off and on again... not fast but not hard either.

    Not so great

Not as good as I had hoped. Instructions say you can install these lights without removing the bumper, but that's not correct. You do have to remove the bumper. No big deal but takes a bit longer. The light is very diffused compared to another brand I've installed. They're better as a daytime running light than as a fog light. Be sure to adjust them down if you have a lift kit on your Jeep otherwise you will be annoying oncoming drivers.

Don't know how the lights work since the install IS NOT easy. It would be nice if you could get at the nuts that hold the bumper on. Sooooo the lights are sitting on my work bench until I can spend a day figuring out how to pull the bumper. Not happy!
