      Video Review & Installation

Hey, guys. So, today we're checking out the Raxiom LED Tail Lights with the Smoked Lens, fitting all 2018 and newer JL Wranglers without the factory LED tail lights. So, if you've busted up a tail light on the trail or you're just looking for an overall upgrade, this is gonna be a great choice to take a look into. Now, this option by Raxiom will be great for the JL owner who is looking for a more blacked-out look for the rear end of their Wrangler and also a more dynamic look. Now, this will also be great for somebody who is not looking to at maintenance any halogen bulbs in the long run, they're looking for a long-lasting light, that's going to give them some good lighting performance. Now, as you can see, this is going to have that smoked lens there, again, great for styling, and it is going to come up with an LED light bar running light that surrounds the entirety of the tail light itself. Now, that is going to add some additional styling and the inside of the light is going to be fully LED as well with an LED light bar design as you guys will see in just a minute. And overall, this is going to do a really good job at not only giving you better lighting performance with that brighter LED, but it's going to be great for somebody who's looking to switch up the styling on the back end and achieve a more aggressive look. Now with that being said, these are going to be completely plug-and-play as well, perfect for somebody who wants a hassle-free install, which I will show you guys how to do that in a little bit. Now, when it comes to pricing, these are also going to be pretty affordable for a set of tail lights coming in around $250. Now, in comparison to other choices, a lot of the time choosing tail lights does come down to personal preference in design. Like I said, this is gonna be more for somebody who wants more of a blacked-out look. Some other choices available on the page may come with a red lens or even a clear lens for more of a Eurostyle work. And then other options available on the page, it may be set up a little bit differently as far as the location of the LEDs is concerned. Like I said, there's multiple LED strips in here. Some other choices may have a different setup when it comes to that. So, again, it kind of comes down to personal preference. But if you are looking for something that's gonna give you a selfie look on the back end of your Wrangler and also give you good lighting performance, better visibility while you're backing up at night with a bright LED reverse light, and also just making you more noticeable on the road to other drivers, this one by Raxiom is gonna be right up your alley. Now, as far as install is concerned, I'm gonna give this very easy one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. This is completely plug-and-play, we don't have to do any additional wiring and you're really just gonna need some minimal tools to get the job done and probably an hour's worth of your time. So, speaking of that install, let's jump into that now. The tools that I used for my install were a ratchet, T40 Torx socket, small extension, soft pry tool, a flathead screwdriver, and a Phillips head screwdriver. So, in order to take out our tail light, we have to access the fastener that's inside of our tailgate, it's gonna be right up on the trim on either side. There's gonna be a little cover that we have to take off and then we can access the plastic bolt that's holding it in. So, for this, you'll need a soft pry tool and you'll also need a T40 Torx socket. So now that we're inside on the tailgate, you can see that directly on the back corner, we're gonna have this little trim piece or this little cover here. I'm gonna take that soft pry tool and just pop it right out. You could also use a flathead screwdriver, but I recommend a soft pry tool just because it's not gonna damage the interior. We can put this aside and this may be a little bit difficult to see but there is gonna be a plastic bolt on the inside here. Now, it is gonna be a spring release. So you just wanna make sure that you're careful with this bolt and I'm gonna take a T40 Torx and a small extension here just to give myself a little bit of room and we can go ahead and remove that. Now, if you don't have a Torx socket, you actually will be able to use the JL Torx socket or the Torx bit that is in the JL toolkit. So, you can actually take out the tail lights with that as well. So, once this is removed, I'll give you guys a better look but this screw is gonna be in the inside, and it's gonna go down into the back of the tail light. Again, this is gonna have a spring on it. So when we tighten it back down, we wanna make sure that we're not over-tightening it. However, at this point, we can hop out of the tailgate and we can go and remove our tail light. So, at this point, the tail light is not really held in by anything, there are a couple of alignment clips. So, really what we have to just do is wiggle it out and pull back. Now we'll be able to access the wiring harness, this might be attached to the back of the tail light. You can pull up on that red locking tab there, depress that clip, and pull back.If you're unable to press it down enough, you can take the soft pry tool and just disconnect it that way. But at this point, we can head to the table and swap over our main bracket here. So now that we have our factory tail light out, we do need to swap over this bracket because this is what attaches the tail light to the Jeep itself. So, I'm gonna take a Phillips head screwdriver and there are three screws that are holding this in, just gonna go ahead and remove those. So, once that's off, what we can do is pop it over on the other side. So, you may need to transfer this clip as well, you can just pull outward on the clip. So you can use the soft pry tool that we were using earlier, it may come off that way. If you need help, you can use a soft pry tool and a flathead screwdriver to kind of pry it open because these do have small barbs in them that stick into the plastic to keep it in place. So what we can do first is just transfer over that little clip there. That's how this is gonna click in and we can line this up over top. There is alignment pins that are gonna go through the bracket itself. Pop that down in place, make sure everything's flushed. Then we can take the provided screws with the same Phillips head screwdriver and screw that down.Once that's tightened up, we are ready to install our new light. What we can do next is plug in our wiring harness, this is just gonna be a plug-and-play operation. So, once that clicks, we can set that red locking tab and then we can line up the pins right here. And for the time being, this should just stay in place and we can head inside the tailgate and re-install our factory plastic screw. Now, what we can do is take that factory screw and that T40 Torx and I'm just gonna hand-thread this in. Forgot to mention, you can also use a 10-millimeter socket if you don't have a T40 Torx so you don't have a JL toolkit. However, what we can do now is just put that on into the back of the tail light. I would recommend to have a hand on the tail light just so you don't push it outward, and then we can start to hand-thread that in. Once you feel that you've caught a thread, we can grab a ratchet and tighten that up. Now again, because this is a plastic screw and it is spring-loaded, it is going to make sure that it is tight but you don't wanna over-tighten it just because you don't wanna break that plastic and then have that fastener stuck in there. So a good hand tight should be good.Once that is tightened up, we can take our little cover here, we can pop that in and repeat that same process on the other side. So, before I go ahead and install the other side, I wanna step down and tell you guys a little bit more about these new tail lights, put it side by side with our factory one, and show you some of the similarities and the differences between the two. Now, just starting off with a brief overview of our factory lights, we're gonna have a standard plastic housing. We'll have a large reflector over on the side, a red reflector in the middle which is going to give you that standard tail light look with that stock taillight look, then we're gonna have a white reflector down at the bottom for our backup light. Now, this light is also going to have a halogen bulb and both the brake light as well as running light and the backup light down at the bottom. That's great for stock performance and better stock lighting performance. However, this option is going to be a lot better and it's going to last a lot longer. You probably noticed with your stock tail lights because they are halogen, you will have to change them out every so often as far as the actual light bulb is concerned. But when switching over to an LED, you really don't have to worry about that at all because of that long lifespan. Now, I do really like the fact that this is going to completely switch up the styling, but around the back of the light and the housing itself is going to have an OEM texture and an OEM style. We're also going to have at that large reflector and the light over on the side, very similar to the factory light. Now, we're moving over to the center of the light, as you can see that this is going to have a smoked lens that's going to offer more of a blacked-out or smoked look. But the LEDs are going to shine very bright through that, especially when you have your running light and your brake light on and that reverse light in the middle. Now, this is going to incorporate an LED ring or an LED border to it, very similar to the factory one. However, this is just going to be reflectors. So, the border on the factory taillight is just going to have a reflector, there's not gonna be any lighting behind that. But this one is going to have an LED strip and it's going to be cut out in the middle for some extra styling. Now, there is going to be multiple LED light bars in the light itself. So, not only are you getting the LED performance from multiple LEDs, but you are getting some better styling and some more unique styling in comparison to just a standard bulb. Now, in the center, this is going to be your reverse light that's going to be moved up from the bottom as you can see on our factory one, it does sit down at the bottom. Again, that is going to give you some better stylings, switch up the look a lot more. And because it is an LED, it is going to be incredibly bright. So, not only are you getting a lot of styling from these in a blacked-out look, but you're getting a lot better lighting performance, you're gonna be more noticeable on the road. And without reverse light you'll get some better visibility when you are backing up at night. Now what I do really like about this as well is the fact that it's plug-and-play, you guys saw that before. You will have to switch over that bracket from the factory one, however, it's very simple to do.So, having this as a hassle-free solution that's going to give you those benefits I think is a very good upgrade for the JL. So what do you say we install the second light and see how they look. So, that is gonna wrap it up for my review and install it.
