Hey, guys. It's Sara from extremeterrain.com. And today, we have a review and install of the PowerStop OE Replacement 6-Lug Brake Pad and Rotor Kit for the front, fitting your '05 and newer Toyota Tacomas. This kit is perfect for the Tacoma owner that's looking for an OE-style brake pad and rotor kit that's gonna get the job of replacing their brakes done without breaking the bank. These brakes were designed as an OE replacement kits so they will function just as well as any OEM replacement would while saving you some money over purchasing from the dealer. Now if you're looking for a more performance option, PowerStop does offer a truck and tow as well as the performance kit. This kit consists of front pads and rotors. The rotors are constructed from G3000 grade-cast iron and the brake pads feature a ceramic compound for minimal dust and noise. So as far as price goes, this kit comes in at around $100 making it a budget-friendly way to replace your front pads and rotors. I'm giving this install a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. This kit features direct bolt-up install and can be done within two hours. So with that said, let's jump right into our install. For this install, you will need impact guns or a ratchet, 17 and 12-millimeter sockets, a caliper tool and a caliper hanger. All right, so the first step in our install, we're gonna remove the brake pads and to do that you have to remove the pins at the back. Grab this retaining clip and remove it. If you can't get this out by hand, you can definitely use a needle-nose pliers, just try not to damage it because we will reuse it. Now these pins are coming out fairly easily but if yours are stuck, you can definitely use a punch. Come in this side and push the pin out the front. Now you can remove this retaining clip that holds your brake pads. Again, save this for later. Now you can pull the brake pads out and if they don't want to come out, you can pull back on these ears to just compress the pistons a little bit, should make it a little easier.Next up we have to remove this bolt holding on the bracket that holds your brake lines so we can hang the caliper out of the way. Grab a 12-millimeter socket and remove this bolt. Now with a 17-millimeter socket, remove the two bolts at the back of the caliper. Now you can remove the caliper off of the truck and hang it out of the way, make sure there's no tension on the brake line. All right, so at this point, we can remove the rotor. Now if it doesn't want to come off, you can hit it with a mallet or if you have hardware laying around, grab an M8 by 1.25 bolt, they thread in these holes here and that should work it off. Now tighten this bolt down and the rotor should work its way off. All right. Make sure you keep a hand on it because you don't want this to fall. All right now we can grab our rotor and get it installed on the truck. You definitely want to spray this down with Brakleen, front and back to get all the oils off that come from the factory. Once you've done that, line it up with your studs. And I usually just throw a nut on there just to keep it in place while we install our caliper. So at this point, we will need to push in the pistons and the caliper a little bit in order to clear our new brake pads. So with your tool, line it up over top of all four pistons, may need to expand it a little bit more. Now these probably don't have to go in much but they do need to push in a little bit in order to clear. So go until they're pretty much flush with the caliper. Now you can install your caliper over top of the brake rotor, grab your factory hardware. Grab your 17-millimeter socket and tighten these down. Reinstall the bracket holding your brake line. And with a 12-millimeter socket, tighten it down. Now you can install your brake pads, you want to choose the one with the feeler, this one goes in the back. All right, at this point, we can install this metal retainer over top of the pads. Should be two holes up here where the pins go and they sort of just lay over top of them and there's an opening for the pin on the bottom. Now we can reinstall these pins, maybe a good idea to clean these up if need be. And it never hurts to put a little bit of anti seize on here, it looks as if the last person to do brakes did and it definitely helped with the removal of these pins. Reinstall them and make sure the lower one goes through this metal retainer. And you can reinstall this retainer on the other side of the pins. I like to start with the bottom one, it's a little bit easier this way. Make sure it's going through the center portion as well. All right, so at this point, you want to repeat that process on the other side and when you're all finished, make sure you pump the brake pedal up and it's nice and stiff before you drive anywhere. But that is gonna do it for the review and install of this brake kit. Remember for all things Tacoma, keep it at extremeterrain.com.
