      Video Review & Installation

Hey, guys. So today I'm here with the Pedal Commander Bluetooth throttle response controller fitting all 2018 and newer JL Wranglers. So if you've noticed a lack of throttle response, if you've added extra weight to your Jeep maybe larger wheels and tires or some heavy armor or you're just not happy with the throttle response right out of the factory, a throttle response controller is a perfect solution to that. So this option by Pedal Commander is gonna come with a number of different features, up to 32 variations of different modes that will either modify or improve your throttle response for very fine tuning. So this is gonna come with Eco Mode to help you save some MPG, City Mode to take a little bit of that throttle response away for more comfortable driving and then you're gonna have Sport Mode and Sport Plus Mode that's going to eliminate that delay up to 99%. Not to mention this is gonna be a very user friendly choice. You do get some tactile buttons on the front. However, if you were looking for a little bit more this is Bluetooth compatible so you can download the Pedal Commander app in the Google Play Store or the App Store for the Apple iPhone and you can control your throttle response controller that way making it overall very easy to use. Now I would like to mention that this is not gonna be a tuner. This is not gonna increase your performance for your horsepower and torque numbers. This is strictly going to focus on throttle response. So essentially what you're doing when you're plugging this in is taking away or modifying that delay between when your foot hits the pedal to when your throttle body opens. So as far as price goes this is gonna be roughly $300 making this a little bit more expensive than the other choices. However, this is gonna offer more features within the device. So even though this isn't your most cost effective choice on the page, I still think this is an overall solid design because it is very user friendly, it's very easy to install and it's gonna have a ton of modes that's gonna help you get the most out of your JL as far as throttle response is concerned. Now install is gonna be a very easy one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. You are gonna need one tool in order to get the job done and about 10 minutes. So speaking of the install let's jump into that now. The tool that I used for my install is a flathead screwdriver. So there's a couple of different things that you're gonna get out of the box. First off you have your Pedal Commander, this is your main unit. So you have your controller up at the top and then down at the bottom, you have two connections that we're going to plug in to the throttle wiring harness that's up on top of your throttle pedal inside your Wrangler then you're going to have a couple of zip ties in order to clean up this wiring. Make sure it's out of the way of your pedals for safety and then you have some alcohol wipes and some Velcro in order to mount up this bracket inside your Wrangler. So let's go ahead and plug this into start and then we'll mount up our Pedal Controller. So what I'm gonna do is pass the connections down through where our lever is to adjust our steering wheel. This is gonna make sure it looks pretty clean when it's mounted up on our dash here. So I'm just gonna feed in one at a time and we're gonna drop it down back where our pedal is. So it's easier to drop wires down than pull wires up. So I'm just going to angle that down and what I can do is reach on the other side and grab it. Now what we can do is just pull this down so we have a little bit of slack and then we can take a flathead screwdriver and go ahead and disconnect our factory wiring harness on the top of our gas pedal. So now I'm underneath our steering wheel. I'm at the gas pedal. This is maybe a little bit difficult to see but if you follow the gas pedal all the way up you're gonna have your module here and then the wiring harness is gonna be on top of there. So if you can see this red clip, we do have to unclip that in order to take out our wiring harness. So I'm gonna grab a flathead screwdriver and at the top of there there's gonna be a space where you can wedge out that clip so you can grab it a little bit easier. So once it's out, we can pull out that clip and that's gonna push our wiring harness up and we can completely unplug that. So what we can do after we've unplugged our factory plug from our gas pedal is take the male connector of our Pedal Commander and put that in the female side of the plug. Now it is just gonna slide in, you don't have to push it into place. What you have to push in is this red clip and that's gonna pull it into place. All right. And that'll pull it into place. And we can do the same thing for the other side so we're going to take the female connector and plug that into our male connector on our gas pedal. We're just gonna slide it over where it needs to be. And once that's sitting in place we can go ahead and push that down and it will pull that connection together. So now we can mount our module. Now this is gonna depend on where you want it, how accessible you want it to be. I'm gonna choose this location down here just because in the JL interior it is a little bit curved and there's not really a flat and larger surface up of the top but this is still easily accessible and it stays out of the way of your steering. So what I'm gonna do is clean this area with an alcohol wipe then. And I'm gonna go ahead and clean the back of our bracket. Now this is removable. You can pop this off and mount this wherever you need to. I'm gonna keep it on there so I can tell exactly how I want this to be mounted up. Then we can take our Velcro, pull off that backing. Just again line this up, make sure that it's in the location that you want it to be. Make sure that this is straight then we can take the other side. Now I can peel the soft side of our Velcro off, put that on the back of our control here and then what we can do is make sure that this is facing upward over here and then we put that into place. So after you have your Pedal Commander installed what you can do is download the Pedal Commander app, you can find it in the Google Play Store or the Apple Store, and then we can go ahead and set up our Commander now. If you don't want to download the app you don't have to, you can use the tactile buttons on the front of the Commander. You have a down and up button as well as an on button. So I have just downloaded the app just to show you guys. So in order to set up your Peddle Commander you will have to go into the settings and then into the connections. I've already set up ours so all you have to do is add another Pedal Commander and then it will come up and prompt you to put in the code on the back of your Pedal Commander. After that it's just gonna ask you to name it so I named ours 2018 JL and everything is set up. Now in order to choose your mode, this is gonna be the main screen. You can choose from Eco, City, Sport, and Sport Plus and then you'll be able to go up and down. So in order to connect this, we need to make sure that our ignition is on. So after our ignition is on we can press continue. So now this is gonna to connect and then we can choose our mode. So right now we're showing that we're in City. We can either go up or down and we can also change into our different mode. So right now I'm in Sport, then you can change to Sport Plus. If you want to change to Eco, it will prompt you. So the pedal response will be heavily decreased in the Economy Mode. So you can either change it or cancel, I'm just gonna pick cancel. So you're gonna have eight different settings within each mode. So you are gonna have 32 total and then after you're finished you can just disconnect and turn off the view. So now if you want to use the tactile buttons, you're just gonna turn the device on. You'll be able to see which mode you're in. There is gonna be a light on each mode and then you can either go up or down depending on what you're looking to do. So if you go down it is gonna show red, but if you are in the up position it's gonna show green. Now just to turn it off if you don't want any settings on your Wrangler, you want to turn it back to normal either in the Bluetooth app you can disconnect or on the tactile button you can just press the power a couple times until it cycles through City, Sport, Sport Plus and Eco and after Eco it will turn off. So that's gonna wrap it up for my review and install. Make sure you like and subscribe and for more videos like this, always keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
