    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com, and this is my review of the Rugged Ridge Quick Release Mirror Kit, fitting all 1997 to 2016 Wranglers. This kit is available in both the rectangular mirrors that you see here and round mirrors, and it's also available in two different finishes, either gloss black or textured. You can also purchase these mirrors individually or as a pair. This mirror kit is for those of you who want to take the doors off of your Jeep but also want to remain both legal and safe by retaining your rear-view mirrors. Now, there are kits out there that will permanently move your factory mirrors from your doors to your A pillars and I really like those kits because they save you the additional step every time you take the doors off of installing or removing your quick release mirror. However, if you're somebody who has a newer JK that has either the power mirrors or heated mirrors, you'll lose that functionality by moving the mirror to the A pillar, so if you're somebody in that situation, I definitely recommend these. I especially like these mirrors over some of the other quick release mirror kits on the market because these are really solidly built. Some of the issues that you can have with a mirror like this, especially at highway speed, is a vibration that makes it really hard to see behind you. These mirrors are nice and solid, so that won't be an issue for you. On the back of each of these mirrors is a ball joint that is fully adjustable, so you can tighten it down, and that's going to keep the mirrors from moving when you hit highway speed. The way that the arm is designed and the way it attaches to the quick release bracket means it's going to attach really tightly and, again, it's not going to vibrate, especially at highway speed. Because the arms and the mirrors themselves are fully adjustable, you're going to be able to see the mirror in any situation. One of the drawbacks to moving the factory mirror to the A pillar is it can make the passenger mirror a little bit difficult to see. You won't have that issue with this kit. This kit is designed to be completely bolt-on and installs really easily. In fact, it uses a lot of the factory hardware which makes it even easier. The first step in the installation is to install the bracket that will stay on the Jeep. In order to do that, you have to remove two bolts from the factory windshield hinge. Now, we found that ours had some Locktite on them, so it might be helpful to run a die and tap through the bolt and bolt hole to make sure they're nice and clean before you reinstall those bolts. That will decrease the likelihood of you cross-threading one of those bolts. Once you have the bracket installed on the Jeep, you install the mirror onto the mirror arm, and then put the mirror arm in the quick release bracket. The whole installation shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes and the only tool you'll need is a socket to attach the mirror to the mirror arm and a Torx bit to remove those factory bolts. I think this kit is worth every dollar that you have to pay for it because of how solidly it's built. You can get two of these mirrors for right around $50 and in my opinion they're worth that. I would much rather have a mirror mover kit that permanently moves my factory mirror from my door to my A pillar, again, just so you don't have that extra step every time you take your doors on and off. However, I'm a TJ guy, so I don't have to worry about power mirrors. If I had a JK that had power mirrors that were heated, I definitely wouldn't want to lose that functionality and I would be installing a set of these on my Jeep. So if you're somebody who likes to take the doors off your Jeep for that open air driving experience, but you want to remain legal and safe, and you don't mind the extra step of taking the mirrors on and off every time you take the doors on and off, I think this is a well-built and fairly priced kit. So, that's my review of the Rugged Ridge Quick Release Mirror Kit, fitting all 1997 to 2016 Wranglers that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

The video shows rectangular mirrors, but I can't seem to find them on your website. Do you sell those?

I would like to know how long the arm is on the mirrors.

    rodj

    • Due to the arms not being straight on the Rugged Ridge Quick Release Black Round Mirrors it is difficult to give a length measurement for these. If straightened these would be approximately 10". Due to the bend, this puts the mirror center line out approximately 8" from the body, depending on the adjustment at the hinge.

      Doorless and legal

Since I didn't want to relocate the factory mirrors, these not only keep things legal and do so with a nice retro Jeep look, but also provide adequate side views for all the highway time I put in. Installation is quick, painless and solid. The only vibration I've noticed is from the engine at low RPM. There's no noticeable noise or vibration from the wind. They're a good solution on the JK and I'll be trying them out on the TJ as well, before possibly picking up a second set.

      Quick release mirrors

Easy to install. Don't stand up to a speed you would use on the highway. I am currently looking for a different set.

      mirrors for doors off scenario

I have purchased a few different styles of quick and easy mirrors to put on my Jeep for when the doors come off. Most vibrate so much when driving you can't see behind you very clearly. These do have some vibration, but they are very usable. Plus the installation took me 10 minutes for both and the quick release feature is a real plus for when doors go back on. Great product for the price.

      Works but meh

The mirror work well, and fit well. Mirror are small, and low profile, but does sit far out from the jeep. My own opinion lead me to purchase another larger mirror, that feels closer to OEM mirrors. Easy to install, and adjust.

      Quick mirrors

Great for when you want to go w/out your doors! Makes the problem of backing into your neighbor a lot simpler! Now you can see when you do it without having to turn all the way around! Keeps you legal on the streets as well

      Good Mirrors

Inexpensive mirrors that are perfect for those with power mirrors that don't want to use the relocation brackets. I don't even take them off when i put the doors back on just swing them towards the windshield. They do whistle just a little at slower speeds but not bad at all. And if you don't tighten the rear screws with the might of Zeus and use a little threadlok they do not move or shake at all.

      Solid

I've read about a lot of issues these types of mirrors can have with vibration, stability and noise at high speeds, and I've experienced none of those issues whatsoever up to 70 mph. Bolted on over light bar supports with no problems at all.

      Good mirrors

These are great mirrors to have when the doors come off. Quick and easy install -- took maybe 15 minutes for both. My only gripe is that the mirrors that come in the set are a little small. I had a set of hinge mirrors that were bigger, though... swapped them out, and now they're perfect. When tightened down, these will also hold their position at or above highway speeds.... I tested mine last week at 80mph. There was a little vibration but they never budged.

      RR Quick Release Mirros

These not only look great and functional, but you don't even have to remove them! When the doors are on, just flip them around in front of your windshield then drop them down out of sight just an inch or so above your hood. No removal necessary making sure no scratches on the glass. I personally like the look even when the doors are on.

      Quick Release Mirrors

Mirrors are great, live out here in CA where I can have the soft doors on it almost all year and needed a set of mirrors that would hold up and these do just that. I would recommend a two person install, not that these are difficult to install but lining them up can be tedious with one person.

You can keep it on with doors on

I bought this set, it comes as a pair, to ride with my doors off and be legal in CA. I installed them, swung them to the front for now (November 2017) and it does not rattle. Very easy install, I would rate 1 wrench.
