Merideth: If you need some better airflow and efficiency for your 2018 or newer JLs 3.6-liter, this Injen Evolution Cold Air Intake with the Dry Filter will be a great pick to take a look into. Now, if you've noticed that your Jeep has been a bit sluggish after putting on larger wheels and tires, or you're just not getting the efficiency that you want, a cold air intake will be a great solution to gain some horsepower, torque, and even a little bit of miles per gallon back. Now, this option by Injen is going to open up that airflow to your engine, giving you some better performance out of your JL while also improving the sound of your engine. Now, this will also be a great choice if you're looking for some additional filter protection when taking your Jeep off-road compared to a heat shield option that doesn't give you as much protection, especially in wetter climates. Now, again, this will feature that airbox design great for offering that protection and airflow thanks to the finned bracket up at the top. Now, the box will also feature a clear window on the top to keep an eye on your filter for maintenance and also, of course, to just give you a sporty look under the hood. Now, the intake tube will offer a larger and straight-through design compared to stock, which will improve the airflow for a streamlined effect. The intake tube and the airbox will be made of a resilient roto-molded poly-filing construction, which will make sure that it's not absorbing any heat. This kit will also incorporate Injen's super nanoweb dry conical filter, which will offer better airflow and less restriction as well as improved filtration compared to the factory element. Now, because this is a dry filter, it is going to require a little less maintenance when it comes to cleaning it, but you can clean this for long-term use. When it comes to pricing, you will be looking at roughly $400, which is pretty average when it comes to a premium intake. Now, other less expensive choices on the page will usually have a heat shield, though will be a little bit less protective than this choice. Not to mention, you will see choices that will come with an oiled filter compared to this dry filter, which may not be your cup of tea because of the extra maintenance required, making this a better choice for you. Now, overall, it does come down to your lifestyle and what you're looking to do with your Jeep. So, I personally think if you're looking for a solid choice when it comes to airflow efficiency and filtration with a premium intake, then this is the one for you. Now, install will be a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, taking you about an hour or so to get the job done with some basic hand tools. Now, at this point, we can head over to the shop and check out a detailed breakdown of the install and what that looks like. So, that's gonna wrap it up for me, let's go ahead and get into it.Man: The tools you're gonna need for this installation include an electric or regular ratchet, a five-millimeter hex head socket, 8- and 10-millimeter sockets, optionally a socket extension, and a trim removal tool. How's it going, everybody? Today we have a cold air intake we're gonna install on our Wrangler JL. I'm gonna show you how to do it step by step. So, let's get started under the hood by uninstalling our factory intake. We're gonna start over here on this side of the air intake by the throttle body. And we need our trim removal tool so that we can take out the intake air temperature sensor here. And then these three Christmas trees, we'll also need our 8-millimeter socket so that we can loosen up the clamp holding on this flex pipe to the throttle body. We're gonna use our trim removal tool to pry up on this tab here on the intake air temperature sensor. And then we're gonna turn it counterclockwise until it stops, and then just pull straight out and just kind of keep that safe as we're gonna reuse it in our new cold air intake. So, for these Christmas trees here, there's three of them. As you can see, we've got one that's broke and actually two that's broke here, but if yours are intact, just pry underneath to take them out as I'll demonstrate with this one like so. And then make sure you get this one out as well. Now, once that's done, grab your 8-millimeter socket and loosen up this clamp right here. And next, we'll move on to the bolts that are holding the air intake pipe in place. Now, there's three bolts that we have to remove using our 10-millimeter socket and there's 1 up here and then 2 over here. Once we have those removed, then we can also take off our vent tube here. And again, we're using our 10-millimeter socket to remove these bolts. Now, to get our vent tube off, we just have to push in this gray tab right here and pull it straight back. All right. With all those components removed, we can now pull it off of our throttle body here and then pull the mounting studs out of the grommets from underneath the airbox. All right. Once those are removed, we can lift it straight up and out of the engine bay. We're here on the workbench with our factory airbox because before we get started with the install, we do have to take the grommets off of here. So, just take a look on the bottom of your airbox. Ours came out with it. Now, they might have stayed behind in the vehicle as well. So, just take a peek and if they are on there like ours are, grab your trim removal tool and just pry these off.All right. Now we'll get our aftermarket airbox up here to transfer these over. We have our aftermarket air intake components up here and we are gonna swap these grommets onto our mounting studs here on our aftermarket box. And we also have the filter that we're gonna put in here and also the air intake tube. We're going to install the grommet that comes supplied with the kit so that we can then mount our intake air temperature sensor here. But let's get started with the mounting grommets. All right. So, we're just gonna slip these on here. And this is what's gonna keep our airbox in place without vibration inside our vehicle. Once those are on, we can turn this around and put our filter in. So, this filter just inserts straight in and then you just twist it to lock it in place and that actually seals it to the airbox as well. All right. Once that is seated properly, we can move on to our air intake tube here. And this is the grommet that comes supplied with the kit and that goes over here. And like I said before, this is where our intake air temperature sensor is gonna go. So, just kind of work that in around the edge of this hole here. And take your time pushing it in. If you do push it in a little too far, you can work it back out from the inside here. Dope. Now I'm just kind of pressing out from the inside just to make sure that it's all completely sealed and seated properly. All right. That looks good. We're ready to put our aftermarket airbox inside our vehicle here. So, it's gonna go in the factory location. And these mounting grommets that we just installed are gonna go into the two holes here that I'm gonna show you here in a moment. All right. So, our mounting grommets here and here. We're gonna go right into these two holes, there and there. Once we set in there, we're just gonna push down firmly to get it seated. All right. Now we can move on to the air intake tube. All right. We have our air intake tube here and the clamp that goes around the filter securing these together and our 8-millimeter socket. So, if you take a look at the air intake tube like this with the vent tube connector here, this end is what's gonna go into the filter right here. First thing we're gonna do is slide our clamp over our filter, then we're gonna insert our intake tube here. Rotate our clamp around so that we can tighten that down with our 8-millimeter socket. We're just gonna leave it a little bit loose for now so that we have adjustability in order to get the throttle body side in. All right. Now, let's get our other supplied clamp and coupler and mount this to the throttle body. We have our supplied coupler here along with the other two clamps. So, we're gonna install this to our intake tube and then to our throttle body.Once we're done that, we're gonna install the intake air temperature sensor and the vent tube. First thing we're gonna do is slide the bigger of the tube clamps over the intake tube first, then we can put our coupler on the intake tube. Then we're gonna take our other clamp and put that over the coupler and seat the coupler to the throttle body here. This can be a little tricky sometimes. I find it easiest if you just work the bottom of the coupler around the bottom of the throttle body first, and then kind of work the rest of it around the top. There we go. That one's not too bad. Make sure that your clamp is accessible so that we can angle it like that. But now let's slide everything together tightly. Make sure it's seated nice and properly, and we can take our 8-millimeter socket and tighten these clamps down. All right. Now that that's secure, we can get our intake air temperature sensor here and we're gonna insert this into the grommet that we installed on the table. And this is fragile, so just take your time, be careful. Just work it in slowly. And then once you get this O-ring all the way inside the grommet, you'll know that have it seated properly. There we go. And also, that tab right here will be all the way against the grommet. So, that's good there. Now we can move on to our vent tube. And this one simply just slides on over right here. Then you can push it and click into place. Since we're here, let's go ahead and tighten down this clamp the rest of the way.All right. And then lastly, we're gonna get our trim piece that comes with the kit and mount that up. For the supplied trim piece here, we're gonna use a combination of the supplied hardware, these hex head bolts here, and one of the factory bolts that we removed earlier. So, we're gonna need our 5-millimeter hex socket and our 10-millimeter socket. The supplied vent trim piece gets mounted on top of the airbox right here. So, let's line up the holes, then we're gonna install our supplied hardware here loosely by hand. All right. And the factory hex head bolt here is gonna get installed right here. And this is gonna secure everything in place. All right. Once we have that in by hand, let's take our five-millimeter hex head socket and tighten down these four bolts. All right. Now, let's swap over to our 10-millimeter socket and tighten this last bolt down. That's gonna wrap up this review and install of the Injen Evolution Cold Air Intake with Dry Filter for your '18 and newer 3.6-Liter Wrangler JL. Thank you for watching. And for all things Wrangler, keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
