Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com and this is my review of the Grabars grab handles available for all 2007-2016 JK 's. There is a set of these available for the front of either your two or your four door that's going to be the same set. But there's also a set of all four grab handles for the front and rear of your Jeep available and those are going to be a little bit different for the two door and for the four door. So, make sure you get the right one for your Jeep. All of these Grabars grab handles ship with both black grips but there are different colors available on the website. These are for those of you who want to make it a little bit easier to get in and out of your stock or lifted height JK. These are also great to grab onto and be able to stabilize yourself when your bouncing along a bumpy trail off-road. Now these are definitely going to feel much more secure than the fabric grab handles that are available on the market. However, these are also are going to be a little bit more expensive. So, it just comes down to what you want for your Jeep. These grab handles are made of 3/4 inch solid steel bar and they're covered in a textured black powder coat. As we mentioned before, these do come with the black Grabar grips but some other colors are available on the website. These come with all the hardware that you need to get them installed on the Jeep and all of that hardware is going to be grade 12 bolts. As you can see these are going to be incredibly solid and in my opinion they're probably even over built for just a grab handle. But they do give you a really solid feel when you grab onto them and get in and out of the Jeep. There's no chance of them turning, rotating, or worse case scenario with some of those fabric handles un-Velcroing and coming off. These are designed to be completely bolt on and installation is pretty easy. If you've been doing some research some people have had a little bit of trouble getting these installed but there are a couple of steps that you can take to make the installation smooth and easy and get it done in under a half an hour. Now the first step is to remove the torque bolt that is in the a-pillar of the Jeep. Once that bolt is removed you can remove the bolt from the sun visor area and then go to installing your front Grabar handle. Now, the bolt in the a-pillar can want to fall down into the trim piece so stuffing something like a paper towel or a small rag between the trim and the a-pillar will insure that once that bolt comes out it doesn't fall down and keep you from having to fish around and find it. Once those two bolts are removed it's a good idea to run a tap through those holes with a good cutting oil. Jeep uses a good bit of Thread-Locker on those bolts for some unknown reason and you certainly don't want to cross-thread any of your new bolts. If you clean out those bolt holes thoroughly it will make installing your new Grabars very, very easy. As I mentioned, these come with all hardware and the spacers that you need to get them installed and they'll bolt right up. Now, if you get these installed and you find that your sun visor hits your front grab handle when you try to flip it to the down position, there is something that you can do for that as well. If you remove the grab handle that you just installed and put a longer bolt inside of the nut-cert that's in the a-pillar, you can bend that nut-cert just a little bit, re-install the grab handle and give you the clearance to flip down the sun visor unimpeded. It looks like the way that those nut-certs were welded from the factory, they're not really consistent. Some people will have the clearance issue and others people don't. So, if you have the clearance issue don't worry you can certainly take care of it and there are very clear instructions on how to do that on Grabars website. As I mentioned, this whole installation process shouldn't take you more then 30 minutes and that's with cleaning out all of your bolt holes as long as you have a good sharp tap and die set handy and ready to go. You're going to pay close to $200 per set of four Grabars grab handles for either your two door or your four door JK., and to a lot of you guys that seems excessive. Especially when you figure you get a full set of fabric ones for under $30 or even less then that. But when you use a solid metal grab handle like this versus the fabric one it is so much more of a secure feeling and that's why a lot of people are spending their money on these grab handles. In my opinion the feel using a solid metal grab handle is definitely worth the extra money over the fabric ones if you have it in the budget. So, if you're looking to add something to grab onto to make it easier for you and your passengers to get in and out of your lifted or stock height JK, I definitely recommend taking a look at the Grabar grab handles. They're going to be more expensive then a fabric set of grab handles however they give you a much more secure feel and in my opinion they're worth the extra money. So, that's my review of the Grabar handles available for all 2007-2016 JK's that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

    Perfect grab handles

I just installed these on my 2015 Wrangler Sport S and love them! Installation was quick (a little over an hour for me due to interruptions but can easily be done in an hour or less) and fairly painless. As others have mentioned, be careful with the side bolts cause they could easily drop behind the plastic cover. I used a large craftsman ratchet with with long extension and 13mm socket. Just when the bolt came loose I carefully removed the extension which held the bolt. Using some WD-40 on the kit bolts before installing those seemed to help. The handles are rock solid! Only small irritation I have is that the passengers side sun visor (seems a bit tight when dropping down into position) but that could be my something I did. Not a problem cause the visor slides to the left and there is the bendable corner to sneak it past the handle. Driver's side is no problem at all.

    Worth every penny!!!!

Delivered this morning and within 20 minutes they where installed on the Jeep. These handles are made of heavy solid steel with some sort of sponging rubber. Super comfortable to grip. The wife is 5.3" and she could literally hang off them. I can move the entire jeep by pushing up and down on them. They fit in the corner perfectly and don't obstruct your view. The black paint and cushioning matches the roll bar color. Also, the Hexham bolts match the rest of the bolts around the Jeep. The worst thing is I only ordered the fronts. Learn from my mistake and buy the complete set for all the 4 door owners out there. Also, ridiculously fast shipping.

    Solid construction and great looking!

Needed handles for my wife, and we zeroed in on these. They are solid, more so than you could imagine. On install, pay attention to the 2 bolts you must remove on the pillars, as it would be easy to drop then behind the plastic. I used pliers to hold them, or a magnet would work also. I love them, it keeps me from being temped to pull on the steering wheel. And they look great! Another product that will have you wondering why they don't leave the factory with these.

    Shoulda been stock

I've had the rugged ridge grab handles that attach via Velcro but these grabars make getting in and out of my jeep 1000x easier. Be it lifted or not these are a must have. Functionality, build quality and aesthetics are A++! My wife loves them as much as I do and the bang for the buck is immeasurable with these. I get lots of "what and where did you get those?!"

    Must have for lifted JK

GraBars are one of those things that just make you say "I wish I would have thought of that" The install will take 10-15 max start to finish. The bars line up with factory holes, if your jeep is lifted these will allow you to get in and out with out sliding across the seat and breaking down your seat. I would highly recommend to anyone on the fence. Far better then the Mopar nylon ones that move around these are sturdy and DO NOT MOVE. I am typically the guy that can pick apart almost anything, and I have nothing bad to say about these, I was concerned that they would block vision, however they do not. I was also concerned that they would be slippery they have a softer compound where you grab on that will prevent slipping. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, you will not be disappointed. I will be ordering a second pair for the back seat as well.

    Solid grab bars.

These grab bars were easy to install and are rock solid. No 'give' whatsoever. These will last as long as the Jeep itself. Very satisfied.

    Great, but hard to install

I love the final outcome, but the installation was a little odd. In short, the bolt holes in this product are fine, as are the hardware pieces, but the places where the bolts go in my '14 JKU are not aligned properly. I had no problem getting the parts to line up properly, but had to do some heavy pulling on the bolts to line them up so they would not cross-thread. Again, this seems to be an issue more with my vehicle than with the product. Other than that, they are rock-solid, look like they should have been there from the factory, and my wife loves them. If the wife is happy, everyone is happy, so all is well. Great product, but you may need to put in a little effort to get them installed.

Nice bars but difficult to install without the right tool.

The quality is top notch. The manufacturer should tell you to use a T-handle Allen wrench in 6MM not 5MM as the instructions shown that way you got some leverage and torque. If you use a simple Allen wrench you will struggle getting the threads of the bolt to connect. It was easy once you got the right tool.

GraBars Handles, Front (07-15 Wrangler JK)

I did not want those Velcro bands. My jeep is only lifted 2 1/2", and I'm 6' tall, and I constantly used my steering wheel to help me 'jump" in over my Sahara steps. These Grabars are sooo solid, EXACTLY what I wanted. They feel so strong once mounted, you can literally rock the Jeep almost over with them. Subtle yet not restrictive. I actually do love them. My wife, who also enjoys driving the Jeep, but usually rides shotgun, is 5'3", and loves them to get in as well. I haven't trailed with them yet, but what a great place to hold on while peering out the side of your door, or on the rocks. But the mere fact of the ease of entry and exit with them is worth it. Now the downfall, the price, I would have had these the 1st day I owned the Jeep, but the $100 is a little salty for 2 metal bars. However, if you pull the trigger on these, or ask for them for a present, you absolutely will not be disappointed, simple and practical. (P.S. read the instructions about removing the lower bolt, or you probably will be removing all the molding to retrieve the bolt...it's true, use vise grips at the end to take it out one you get it started) Install was literally 15 minutes, but the instructions explain a procedure to fix the internal nut if it's not centered from the factory too.

    grabars

Over all A great product they are so solid they feel like they are a permanent part of the jeep. My only criticism is they should of been painted matte black instead of gloss to better match the plastic A- pillar covering.I also would of liked to see the bolt extention tubes coped to better fit the handle. That being said I still would highly recommend them.

    Grab Bars

Great solid handles. Follow the directions, there a bit tricky to install. Also be very careful not to drop the exiting bolts behind the trim when you remove them as specified in the directions. I would highly recommend these handles, great upgrade to your jeep and look great.

    Great product!

Went for the full set front and rear. Installed in about 30 minutes! Just made the interior of my JK look tougher! I added a 2" suspension lift to accommodate my 33" Dick Cepek tires so no more grabbing of the steering wheel to get in. Well done GraBars!
