Quadratec is a better supplier
Extreme Terrain offered a bumper that was cheaper than Quadratec but boy did I pay for it anyway. Incorrect components shipped, I returned, and then the the incorrect components shipped incorrect try again. No wait, it gets better, then they were out of stock on the tire rack. Lastly, one of the parts were missing and instead of sourcing it they sent me an e mail saying "Sorry, you can find that part somewhere else". They did give me $50 store credit in which I appreciated. Ive used Quadratec since I bought my Jeep and have ZERO issues. I tried to save a few bucks and ended up with a headache and an incomplete order. Based on my experience I will not use Extreme Terrain again.Helpful (1)

Decent. But could be better
Aside from taking 2 months for the swing arm portion of the bumper to arrive. It's a good looking bumper. It's definitely a sturdy bumper. The fitment isn't perfect, the clip that goes on the swing arm peg is starting to rust and it's only been on for 2 weeks. Overall, I expected more out of this bumper but I'm satisfied.Helpful (0)

Good product at a good price.
So I just installed my bumber and tire carrier today. It's a bear to hold the bumper in place and get the side bolts lined up by your self. Definitely suggest getting a budy to help with that. The rest is fairly easy. Everything bolted right up. The only reason I didn't give 5 starts is that the latch does contact the license plate if you do not shim the bumper out some. Also had to cut down the factory spare tire isolators on the drivers side of the tailgate as the carrier was contacting and no allowing me to latch it. You can go with a cheaper bumper and tire carrier combo but most are not tow rated like this one is. Also you could spend more and get a fancier combo with lights, bearings for the tire carrier and, links to connect the carrier to the tailgate. For me this one was a good middle ground. Had what I needed at a price I could afford. I want to give a big shout out to extreme terrains customer support. I was originally shipped 2 tire carriers with no bumper. One call and they took care of things for me. :-)Helpful (5)

Nice for the price
Great looking bumper, was a little difficult to install without directions. 3 stars because I received what seems to be a used bumper, it had red dirt impacted in the tire carrier :( Other than that it works fine and looks good once cleaned up.Helpful (5)

Good looks, but small quirks
The bumper itself was packaged really well and looks amazing. Installation was relatively easy, requiring only a few common tools and an extra set of hands. There were some problems though; as others have said, it does require a little more spacing to prevent the latch from hitting the license plate. Also, for certain bolts, nuts were welded to the bumper (not poorly). This normally wouldn't cause problems, but for one of them, a small bit of spatter got inside and prevented the bolt from being able to screw into the threads. This was remedied with a few seconds of filing with a tiny rat tail file but it was annoying. Also, there were no instructions included but I was able to download them onto my phone, and while they weren't perfectly clear, they got the job done. Very impressed by the quality of the bumper, just slightly annoyed by small hiccups that could've been prevented.Helpful (7)
Is the hitch on this bumper rated for towing?
Thank you for your question! This bumper includes a Class 3 hitch. Class 3 hitches can be used for weight distributing and are rated for up to 10,000 lbs
Reviews mention shimming the bumper. How is that done for better fitment?
This should indeed be a direct bolt in installation with no modifications required, which we have seen relative to our testing. Due to this we do not have any information upon modifications of this sort, but if you find that you feel like your forced to do so please notify our customer service department for an appropriate resolution as you should not need to.
This video shows the plate with 4 holes to the front of the cross member like as a strengthener, but the video of the same bumper with the taper bearings shows the plate going on behind the cross member as a spacer. Is this plate a spacer or a strengthener? Which one is correct?
Per DV8 Off-Roads install guide, the plate included with the DV8 Off-Road RS-1 Rear Bumper with Tire Carrier will be installed on the back of the cross member as a spacer plate.
Why is no one concerned with losing reverse lights? Is there not a way to keep your reverse lights
Your reverse lights would still be visible via your tail lights and you can install a third brake light extension so that your third brake light is visible.
After installation I cannot close the gate...even with the license plate removed...I read that it may need to be shimmied over a bit..but should I need to remove the plate and bracket completely?!? also..should it be next to impossible to open and close the gate ? The pins on the swing bar are also proving to be a huge problem..
We do apologize you are having this issue with yourDV8 Off-Road RS-1 Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier. Please contact our customer service department so that we may directly assist you with this issue. Our contact information can be found here: https://www.extremeterrain.com/contact.html.
This item does not have provisions for spare tire and jack mounts integrated into it, you'd need to purchase other items separately to accomplish this. Please consult us so we can look into the jerry can tray or jack mount you need for your setup, as not all mounts will work with all cans or jacks.
This bumper/tire carrier should not rattle loudly if installed correctly.
Yes, you are able to use your third brake light with this tire carrier.
Unfortunately, this tire carrier on the RS1 bumper is not compatible with the DV8 Off-Road RS11 bumper. We do have a tire carrier by DV8 that is specifically designed to work with the RS11 and RS 10 bumpers here: https://www.extremeterrain.com/dv8-off-road-tc-6-easy-open-tire-carrier-for-rs-10-rs-11-bumpers-0717-jk.html.
This bumper is 66 inches wide.
This is rated for a 37" tire weight and size wise and we would not recommend running a 40" tire with this bumper.
Yes, this bumper includes a Class 3 hitch. Class 3 hitches can be used for weight distributing and are rated for up to 10,000 lbs
No, the hitch on the DV8 Off-Road RS-1 Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier does not feature a slot for trailer lighting.
Yes, as long as it is bolted to the frame you will be good to go with the installation of this bumper with the tire carrier.
No, DV8 does not offer an adapter to slant the back tire carrier on the DV8 Off-Road RS-1 Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier.
