Review & Install Video
I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com, and this is my review of the Drake Off Road Grill Inserts in black, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. These are for those of you who wanna change up the look of the front of your Jeep without getting rid of that iconic seven-slot grille. While these do look good and will definitely change up the look, they also add a layer of protection against stone throws. Stones can come up through the openings in the grille and damage your radiator or your air conditioning components, and these will help just knock down some of those stones that would otherwise cause damage.
These are a really high-quality, well-built product that also fit really well, and for something that's billet aluminum, these are priced really fairly. In fact, they are significantly less expensive than a lot of the other grille inserts on the market, and in my opinion, they are better made than some of the other ones.
As with most things from Drake Off Road, these grille inserts are made of billet aluminum and covered in a black powder coat finish. In fact, even the clips that go on the back side of the grille that screw into the grille inserts, holding everything together, are also billet aluminum. So you don't have any plastic, you don't have to worry about anything getting brittle in the sun or in the cold and breaking. Everything is gonna hold up really well for you. These are designed to fit right in your factory grille, install easily, you don't have to drill anything, and as I said before, they look good and add a great level of protection.
So to get these installed on your Jeep is a pretty simple process. The first step is to remove your factory grille, and in order to do that, you'll wanna remove the turn signal plugs, then remove the eight clips across the top of the grille. And finally, just give it a good pull and it'll pop right off. From there, you can install the grille inserts from the front. On the back side of the grille, you'll lay the clips across the back and use the included screws to hold the grille inserts into place.
Some grille inserts just clip into the grille from the front, and the installation is a little bit easier. However, in my opinion, it's not as secure of an installation. Other grille inserts will be held in with 3M tape, which is something that I actually do like because it prevents the opportunity for the grille insert to chafe the factory grille. But because the clips that are included in this setup are billet aluminum, everything is really solid. I really do like the way that these install on the Jeep. The whole installation process shouldn't take you more than an hour, and that's including putting the grille back on the Jeep in the reverse order of the steps that you took it off.
Anytime you're looking at a product that is billet aluminum, the price usually climbs, especially over a plastic alternative. But if you look at these billet aluminum grille inserts versus some other billet aluminum grille inserts, these are actually really fairly priced. Some of the other ones can be $130, $200, and even more. So for the price you have to pay for these, I think they are a bargain. They're incredibly well-made. I love the installation system, and they look really good.
So if you wanna customize the look of the front end of your Jeep, but you're not ready to get rid of that iconic seven-slot grille, these do a really nice job of accenting the factory grille while still giving you that custom look. They're an item that fit really well, are priced really, really reasonably, and the installation could not be simpler.
So that's my review of the Drake Off Road Grille Inserts, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs, that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.
