To assure your safety and proper installation of this product, take a moment to read all instructions and Product Safety Information before trying to install your Daystar® product. Current OEM suspension design is complex: meaning safe and proper installation requires understanding OEM service techniques for disassembly and assembly of the components indicated together with the instructions and warnings set out below and in the OEM service manual and your owner’s manual. Daystar® strongly recommends seeking advice from or having this product installed by a professional mechanic who can inspect your suspension, confirm compatibility with your tire and wheel choice and, if needed, reset alignment to optimize your steering.
Throughout these instructions important safety information is generally preceded by one of three signal words indicating the relative risk of injury. The signal words mean:
! WARNING A hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury. You can be Killed or Seriously Hurt if you don’t follow instructions.
! CAUTION A hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in minor or moderate injury. You can be moderately HURT and also may suffer property damage if you don’t follow instructions.
NOTICE Careful attention is required to this instruction or operation but does generally not relate to personal injury. Damage to your product or other property may result if you don’t follow instructions.
Familiarize yourself with all vehicle manufactures’ and Daystar warnings, instructions and limited warranties before driving your modified suspension vehicle. Also be aware many states / countries have laws governing on-road vehicle heights and modifications. You are responsible for assuring the safety and legality of your vehicle. A summary of current state vehicle laws is available at www.sema.org.
!Warning: Always work with appropriate personal safety gear including safety glasses, gloves and hearing protection if using air powered tools.
Begin by inspecting the components & hardware for damage. Then compare components & hardware to the bill of materials for completeness. If anything is missing/damaged, do not proceed with the installation. Please, call Daystar Products (800-595- 7659) and we will send you the missing of damaged components free of charge.
1. Clean the install area of the hood, so that all debris that can effect the installation are removed.
2. Disconnect the positive battery cable. Notice: To ensure the cable does not make contact with the battery terminal, securely wrap the cable end with a rag.
3. Using the scissors, carefully cut out the template. Notice: Special care should be taken with the bottom and rear edges, they will act as the alignment guides in a later step.
4. Starting with the passenger side of the Jeep, place the template on the hood of the Jeep. Take care to ensure the bottom and rear portions of the template line up with the back and bottom of the hood. This step is a crucial part of a perfect install.
5. With the painter’s tape affix the template to the Jeep. Notice: Before any holes are drilled make sure the template is located on the hood correctly. If you are unsure please, do not hesitate to con tact Daystar’s technical department 800-595-7659.
6. Using a center punch and hammer locate the centers of the four (4) mounting holes and the three (3) vent holes. Notice: Do not strike the center punch with too much force, or dam age to the hood will occur.
7. Use caution when drilling holes. Make sure there is not any items under the hood that will be damaged. It is a good idea to prop the hood up at a workable angle to provide additional under hood clearance during the drilling steps.
8. Starting with the 3/16” drill bit drill the four (4) mounting holes. Notice: When drilling the two (2) mounting holes located on the outside curvature of the hood. Start with the drill perpen- dicular to the hood. Once, the drill is through the hood rotate the drill up 90 degrees
9. Change over to the 1-1/4” hole saw and cut out the three (3) vent holes.
10. Deburr the holes drilled in the steps 8 & 9 and use some touch up paint on bear metal edges to prevent corrosion.
11. Once the paint is dry install the supplied grommets into each of the three (3) vent holes.
12. Open the hood and rest it on the factory hood prop.
13. Locate the following components: 4 x flat washers, 2 x 3/16” long bolts, 2 x 1” long bolts, 1 x Extractor Hood Vent, 1x bolt wedge.
14. Place a flat washer on each bolt.
15. Starting with the 3/16” long bolts, secure the Daystar hood vent to the hood.
Notice: Leave the bolts loose, so there is some play in hood vent This will make locating the remaining mounting bolts easier.
16. Move onto the 1” long bolts along with the bolt wedge. Match the curved side of the bolt wedge to the curve of the hood. It may be necessary to wiggle the Hood Vent in order to align all of the mounting bolts.
17. Once all four (4) of the mounting bolts are located, tighten them.
Congratulations! You have just completed the install, take a step back and admire your new functional hood vents from Daystar.
