Review & Install Video
I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com, and this is my review and installation of the Bestop Trektop Pro fitting your four-door 2007 and up JK. Today, we're going to talk through the installation of this top which I am going to give a two out of three wrenches. There isn't any major modification or cutting of your jeep necessary to get this top installed. However, it is going to take a few hours. So again, two out of three wrenches, but we'll talk a little bit more about the install in just a second. We're also gonna talk through the construction and a few of the other features of this top.
One of the reasons we love having a Wrangler is the fact that you can very easily get that open-air driving experience by either flipping your soft top down or removing your hard top. But there are definitely benefits to having a hard top over a soft top and vice versa. What the Bestop Trektop Pro does is integrate the best of both your soft top and your hard top which is a really nice feature. This is a very unique top that is not available from any other manufacturer. This top gives you hard glass windows, as you can see here. This is a rear window. It also gives you hard glass side windows that you can slide open, but it still gives you the same soft top sunrider feature that you're used to from either your factory or a lot of other aftermarket soft tops. So again, it is really the best of both worlds.
Now, because you are getting so many features and you are getting a very high-quality top from Bestop, this is going to be one of the most expensive tops that you can get for your JK. But if you're looking for all of these features and you want something that's going to be very high quality, this is definitely a good top to take a look at.
So, as I said, this top is really the best of both of worlds. For the upper portion of the top, you're essentially getting a Bestop Trektop that is made of the twill material. So, again, it is going to be that 30-ounce acrylic material that is really high-quality material. The stitching and everything is going to hold up very well over time even if you have your top on year-round, it's definitely going to be able to take a beating. On top of that, you do have that sunrider feature where you can very easily flip back the front portion of the top giving that open-air driving experience to just the front two passengers, so you do have a lot of flexibility.
Now, the hard top portion of this top is, as we said before, those windows. You are getting glass windows around all three of the rear windows. The two side windows do slide allowing you to very easily open those windows, where with a soft top you would have to unzip them and store the windows somewhere, and with the hard top, of course, they're not openable, so again, best of both worlds.
The rear window does open up just like your hard top window would with two gas shocks that allow it to stay open. It has an integrated defrost, so you can just plug it into your factory hard top wiring harness and have that defrost mode, and this will accept your factory rear wiper, so you just pop it out of your hard top if you have one and install it in here. Or if you don't have a hard top but you want that rear window option, you can just pick up an OEM rear wiper, and again, it will install right in this rear glass.
You can also remove all three of the rear windows just like you can from a soft top, however, you still have the same issues you do with the soft top with having to store those windows somewhere, and they're not going to store very easily. Being glass, of course, you can't fold them, you can't roll them. So this is really designed to leave those windows in place or take them out and leave them in your garage before you even leave for the day.
As I mentioned before, I am going to give this a two out of three wrenches for the install, and you are going to have to give yourself around three hours to get this top put on your jeep. Of course, this is going to be much more involved than you're traditional soft top or your traditional hard top, and there is some additional hardware. Again, no drilling or major modification necessary but a lot of pieces and a lot of steps, so definitely take your time and give yourself around three hours.
The first step in installing this top is, of course, removing whichever top you currently have on your jeep whether it be a soft top or a hard top. And you're gonna remove that top completely. After that, you'll go ahead and install the halo portion of your new Bestop Trektop Pro and then move onto installing your rear window. Finally, you'll install the top itself, the actual fabric portion of your top, and then you can install your rear side windows. Again, the whole process will take around three hours, and you are going to need pretty much every hand tool you have at your disposal to get this bolted up.
I said at the top of this video that this is a very expensive top, but there is good reason for that. You are getting a very high-quality top, and you're getting a top with a lot of features that you can't get anywhere else. If you just consider the fact that a glass window is considerably more expensive to manufacture than the soft window is, all of a sudden the additional cost that you have to pay for this top becomes worth it.
So if you are looking for a top that has the best of both worlds, that soft top and hard top all in one, and you're going to take advantage of all the features this top has, and you're looking for a high-quality top, I absolutely think that this is worth the price. That being said, if all you're looking for is the Bestop Trektop slant back style, and you're not interested in having the hard glass windows, you can certainly save yourself some money by going with the Bestop Trektop NX.
So if you're looking for a very high quality and well built top for your JK that integrates the best of both a soft top and a hard top, giving you the security of hard glass windows that are much more difficult to get into, but also the flexibility to go and get that open air driving experience that a lot of us purchased our jeeps for, this is going to be a very nice option, as long as you have the budget for it.
So that's my review of the Bestop Trektop Pro fitting all 2007 and up JKs that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.
The Bestop Trektop Pro combines the benefits of a hardtop, a soft top and a bikini top into a single easy to use luxury JKU top. Designed with more freedom than a hard top, the Trektop Pro combines the classic sun rider, flip back function with real glass side panels, making this the first soft top with open air available for rear passengers and pets. Bestop's special attention to detail provides superior performance unavailable in any other top on today's market.
This industry first top features Bestop's premium 30 oz. triple layer black acrylic twill fabric to provide a wrinkle free look with durability in mind. It makes use of durable door surrounds and an all new rear arch assembly made of thermoplastic resin for exceptional lightweight performance and strength. Real glass windows eliminates the security issues found in standard vinyl windows and they include an easy to use security latch for peace of mind.
The Trektop Pro eliminates the need for a tailgate bar, as well as extra soft top bows or assemblies. The Rear Hatch and Arch Assembly are easily removed along with the side panel using a factory inspired belt rail system to create a traditional safari style bikini top. The modular top rails join up with door surrounds and the Arch Body for a solid and weather tight fit that eliminates zippers for a smooth and painless installation in moments.
Real glass provides new opportunities never seen before on a soft top; A fully integrated defrost system is ready to go to work and accepts factory style wiring bundles found on hardtops. As well this rear hatch is ready to accept your hardtop's factory wiper to make the swap from hardtop to Trektop Pro without stress or worry.
The Trektop Pro's lightweight design not only makes it easier to handle for all users, since it lightens your JKU's load it will help save on gas costs as well. No zippers means no fuss and eliminates the weakest part of conventional soft top, enhancing the longevity and performance of this top.
