Thinking about installing the hinges to offset the weight of a 35" tire. I want to leave the factory tire mount on and just upgrade the hinges. What are your thoughts?

JeffW

  • 35's with the MORryde Heavy Duty TailGate Hinge Set, would work just fine, along with your stock factory mount. This is exactly what these hinges were designed for, to support a heavier tire.

Trying to fix the rattle in the tailgate of my JK. I have a 33” spare and am planning on buying the hinges. Is the reinforcement kit even necessary or should the hinges get the job done? And what reason is there to buy the tire carrier- would the stock one work? If the hinges are good enough to support the weight of my spare I would prefer not purchasing both of the other items.

Matt

will these hinges work with the Rugged Ridge Hi-lift Jack Mounting Bracket

Kevin

  • The Rugged Ridge Hi-lift Jack Mounting Bracket would not work properly with the MORryde Heavy Duty TailGate Hinge Set, though it may be possible to modify it to work, we do not recommend this as it may compromise the integrity of the hinges.

I've seen online a "plate" that can be added to the top or bottom hinge which prevents check strap issue, i.e. swinging past 90 degrees. It's stated that this specifically has to be asked for. Is this still available and best way to order hinges with this plate via phone?

BradS

  • At this time, we do not offer any optional components for the MORryde Heavy Duty TailGate Hinge Set.

    Heavy Duty Tailgate Hinges

Purchased a new 2016 Jeep Wrangler and a short time later a rattle started in the right side of tailgate area. I nor the dealership could locate the rattle and I pretty much stopped driving my jeep and talked of selling. Finally I YouTube "rattle in tailgate area" of my jeep and discovered others having same problem. The solution was to install heavy duty hinges. My sanity has been restored and not looking to sell my jeep.

Easy install and looks great plus no rattles!!

The only reason I am giving this a 4 is simply due to a few small details that were missed. - As a professional mechanic instructions are important to me. The instructions are okay but not great and could use more picture details. - A specific grease to be used in the hinges would be a good note to have on the instructions. Most people wont care but it is a good tidbit that is needed. - A torx head instead of standard hex key. If you are torqueing a bolt it is much better grip. - Make it a bolded instruction to only do one hinge at a time. It is very important and should not be after how to remove the hinges it should lead the page in bold. Other than these tiny gripes these hinges are great! Love the smooth feel and it is very easy to keep in great shape!

    Sexy hinges

When looking to replace my rugged ridge tire carrier I wanted something that looked beefy and not the factory look I was so excited when I came across these from ET price was not bad at all I did pay to have them put on! Looks very sexy with my Atlas SmittyBilt bumper and tire carrier.

    Stronger and Smoother

I changed out my JK stock gate hinges for these and right away noticed a better swinging more sturdy feeling gate. I am only running stock 31" tires, but i do have a molle pack on the indie and it holds all kids of stuff. the hinges are smooth to open and to close. They look great as well. I feel more confident when i put up a flag that the gate wont come off now.

    Balln on a budget

I didn't want to spend $700.00 on a spare tire carrier so I upgraded the hinges and the carrier itself and Bam! ! ! ! No more tailgate noise and I only spent about $400.00 , I have 35" tires with 18" rims

    Great product

very easy to install just make sure everything is lined up before you bolt down. When removing factory hinges it looks like the interior nut might slip and fall, it wont, it seems to be welded in place. Very beefy hinges and opens and closed smoothly. Hold 35" toyo in place very nicely.

    Almost a great product

I purchased these hinges based on the great reviews they received. I knew nothing about the company MORryde. The only reason I could not give these hinges a full 5 stars was because A) hardware. Who uses allens where you need to put somewhat heavy torque on them and where you cannot get a square shot at the bolt? No Bueno folks. I reinstalled my factory Torx bolts....paint them if you have other than a black color. And B) When the hinges are in the full open position, the two hinge sections make contact thus peeling the weak powder coating? off. My fix after painting the bare metal was to affix gas line hose, split length wise and held over the edge with windshield butyl thus preventing metal to metal contact. The jury is still out on that fix. The hinges themselves however are exactly what I needed to stop the tailgate rattle I had after hanging a much heavier steel wheel and larger tire on the carrier. Very beefy, no sweat install and a zerk fitting......haven't seen one of those on an aftermarket part in a lot of years, kudos for that. I was disappointed more so at the finish coming off than the hardware issue, (being as I'm in a rust belt), but I'm overall pleased with this product.

    The clanking is gone.

The hardest part of the install was blending the touch-up paint on the tail-gate. Outside, of the painting, the install took less than an hour. These hinges are MUCH heavier than the cheap, stock hinges. It's nice that they can be greased. The cheap, stock hinges can't even be cleaned. It would be nice if they put these hinges on at the factory. The current hinges are, what I believe to be an engineering "oops".

Great Hinge Upgrade for Larger Tires

Purchased these hinges to protect the tailgate from rattle after upgrading to 17" Mammoth wheels with 33" Mickey Thompson tires that added about 25lbs of weight. Fit and quality are excellent. Installation is simple (better if you have an impact driver to loosen the factory torx screws holding the original hinges), but can take a couple of hours if you want to paint behind the factory hinges. These new hinges also come with black-out tape to hide the unpainted area of the tailgate behind the factory hinges.

    Sanity Restored!!!

I'm new to this whole Jeep customization thing, so when I changed my OEM wheels and tires to some that were larger and heavier, naturally that move created an issue with the tailgate. Unfortunately, nobody I talked to had a CLUE as to what to do about the annoying creaking and rattling that went along with the new equipment. So, as a reasonably intelligent (albeit green) woman, through the process of eliimination (and with the help of Nuno at Extreme Terrain!!) I purchased these HD hinges for BOB (that's short for Big Orange Box.) I didn't have to spend an arm and a leg for a fix, and the hinges stopped that problem cold! I AM SO VERY HAPPY!! This is an excellent product!!

The hinges that JEEP should be including on your JK

Great product, eliminated the squeak/rattle in my tailgate. My stock hinges were wiped and I could not decide between doing a tailgate upgrade or a rear bumper. At $150 these were a no brainer solution as even if I go the new bumper route I would need hinges. I will probably invest in the hi-lift jack mount as well once spring hits. Highly recommend this product!

Good for the money and stopped the rattles

I bought this because of the 35" tire being mounted in the tailgate. I was concerned with the OEM hinges potential sagging. Installation seems straight forward, but every Jeep is different. It took quite a bit of adjusting to get the hinges installed correctly. Be prepared to adjust the latch receiver also. Before you even start the install, get some automotive masking tape, newspaper, primer, & color match paint. Do not use regular blue painter's tape. Get the good stuff. Clean everything, prime, and paint. Then go ahead and install your new hinges. Help from a friend would be good also. This might be needed for the adjustments. It will be worth it. I already had the larger tire mount, so this was the next logical step. Installation didn't take long but all of the prep was time consuming. I would do it again.

    Heavy Tailgate replacement

Very easy install, very strong form supporting a 35inch tire. Hardest part of install was taking off the spare..;-) The look is a lot better than the stock plastic covers. Has a grease point also to keep them smooth when opening.. only part that did not like was the bolts were not Torx. i just used the stock one's since I did not have a tool to use the included bolts.

Way beefier than puny stock hinges. Simple install and now no more tailgate clunk. Wish I had painted underneath old hinges before installing - might go back and do that just to be safe. Definitely recommend this product

    Morryde Tailgate Hinge Review

Purchased because my rear door was rattling every time I went over rough road or hit a bump. My wrangler has 121,000 miles and rides on slightly larger tires than stock so I was probably overdue for this mod. Time to install was approximately 40 minutes, not including paint drying time. I recommend painting the area under the hinge that is not painted. I used a rustoleum combined primer and paint in black. Fitment was good as well as the quality of product.

MORRAYDE JEEP JK TAILGATE HINGE UPGRADE

I have a 2009 JK 2 door, I have been researching all of my options for carrying my spare. I am running 35's, the stock carrier and tail gate would rattle and sounded like tire was ready to fall off. The module tailgate spare tire and tailgate reinforment system that Morryde has developed fitted my need for my budget, and the need for reinforcing my tailgate and tire carrier. Starting with hinges, then tire carrier reinforcement, last tie carrier. Very easy bolt on application. Very happy with product.
