Merideth: If you're in search of solid rocker protection while simultaneously having a step for better access for your 2005 or newer Access Cab Tacoma, these Rocker Armor Side Step Bars in Matte Black will get the job done. Now, this set of side step bars will tuck into your rocker panel and protect the pinch weld from all angles, which will be a good option for the Tacoma owner doing any wheeling that wants that extra protection to that area. These will also have a stepping pad on the front and back to help you and your passengers get in and out, which will be especially helpful if you've added a lift on your truck and need that extra accessibility. These steps will feature 2-inch square side armor bars, which will protect the pinch weld from the underside from any hits in addition to the sidebars that poke out to take the blow instead of your rocker. Now the steps themselves will also be large at 6.5 inches, making sure that you've got enough room to hop in and out, and will have cutouts for drainage and, of course, that sporty look. Not to mention, the minimalistic style build here is very sleek and is great for anybody who doesn't wanna go over the top when it comes to styling.Speaking of the build, these will be made of a sturdy 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum alloy construction, being lightweight and able to handle their own. Now they'll also have a matte black finish on top to match with any other heavy-duty accessories and protect the aluminum underneath from corrosion. This kit will also include all the hardware and brackets in order to get these onto your Tacoma for a very easy install. When it comes to price, these are pretty average for a step at roughly $375. Now in comparing it to other options, the two things that stand out to me is the skeleton style build with the bars of the side step being in functional locations and the fact that you're getting underbody protection, which is incredibly important if you're taking your Tacoma off-road. Now, other choices on the page may have more to the design as far as the styling is concerned. They may not offer that underbody protection, or will not be as focused on protection but rather accessibility, unlike this option that balances the two nicely. Now, I think if you're looking for a stylish middle-of-the-road option that will get the job done, then this is gonna be a great pick. Now, install will be pretty easy like I mentioned before, but I am gonna give this a two out of three wrenches, just because you may need an extra hand to get these onto your truck. And it's probably gonna take you about two hours to get the job done with some basic hand tools. Now, at this point, we can head over to the shop and check out a detailed breakdown of the install and what that looks like step-by-step. So, that's gonna wrap it up for me. Let's go ahead and jump into it.Man: The tools that you'll need for this step is a flathead screwdriver and a 7 by 32 ratchet. First, we will start by taking out the two plastic pins using our flathead. They're very easy to take off, and once you start them you could continue with your hands like so. We will continue our mounting by using the materials we have showed you before with our hex screw, our lock washer, followed by a flat washer. And we will start by hand-tightening the hexagon screws into their locations. Please make sure that the opening of the front bracket is faced toward the back of the vehicle. You could use the instructions as reference. To install both the middle and rear passenger-side bracket, you will follow similar procedures as we did to the front by first taking out the two plastics using our flathead screwdriver. We will continue by using our hexagon screws followed by the locking washer and the flat washer. Opposite from the front bracket, we'll make sure that the opening is facing the front of the vehicle. You could use the instructions as a reference. We will only hand-tighten those screws as this part of the step. We will follow the exact same procedure to mount the rear bracket. And in order to install the rocker mount to the mounting we have just installed on the vehicle, we'll have to have our U-mount, two spacers, our longer bolt, our hex nut, locker washer, and flat washer. We'll place that U-mount through the two bars that are closer to the vehicle followed by our two spacers. Now, we'll be installing the rocker mounts onto the vehicle to the mounts that we have just installed. An important piece of information regarding this step is to make sure that one of our spacers is between our U-bracket and our rocker mount and the other spacer is between the rocker mount and the installation mount on the vehicle. We will be placing the rocker mounts onto the vehicle, like so, and following, we'll be using our materials from earlier. We'll be using our hex nut, our lock washer, and our flat washer in the following order. First, we'll place our flat washer. We wanted to show you the backside of the rocker mounting to the vehicle. Again, it is very important to have one of the spacers between the rocker and the mount to the vehicle. Then we'll be using a flat washer, a lock washer, and a hex nut and hand-tighten it together. Now we'll be using our ratchet to tighten our hex nut and our bracket to the vehicle because before we had only hand-tightened them. Repeat these steps for the middle and front brackets. Now we will work on the driver's side. Again, starting with our front driving side bracket and using our bracket and our hex nuts with our lock washer and flat washer as so. We will begin by taking out the plastic pins using our flathead screwdriver, following by placing our bracket again with the open side pointing backwards, and inserting our hex nuts using only our hands at this point. We will continue with our middle bracket by taking the plastic pins again, placing our bracket with the open side facing forward as opposed from the front bracket, and tightening using our hands only at this point. Follow the exact same steps for the back bracket as well. Installing the back bracket, we'll make sure that the opening is towards the front of the vehicle, and then we're replacing the hex bolts using our hands alone.Woman: For the next part, you'll need your U-mount, your spacer, and your long bolt. So, you're gonna put your spacer on the U-mount and then put the long bolt through the holes like this. Then you're gonna put that right underneath these spaces between your board and then you're going to take your other spacer, put it like so, and then you're going to take your flat washer, put it like so, your lock. Now, for the next step, it's very important that you grab a buddy. It's important to have a buddy when leveling the board to the car and screwing in all the nuts and bolts.Man: So, this is the same here.Woman: After you finish the installation of the board, you wanna make sure that you tighten all the nuts and bolts. When you're first installing the board, don't tighten all the nuts and bolts until completely finishing the installation, then tighten the nuts and bolts.Merideth: That's gonna wrap it up for my review and the install of the Rocker Armor Side Step Bars in Matte Black, fitting all 2005 and newer Access Cab Toyota Tacomas. And remember, for all things Tacoma, keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
