Hey, guys. So, today we're checking out the SpeedForm Throttle Controller, fitting all 2005 and newer Toyota Tacomas. So, if you're not happy with your Tacoma's throttle response right out of the factory and you're looking for a little bit of boost off the line, especially if you've added any heavier accessories on your Tacoma and you're looking to gain some of that throttle response back, this option by SpeedForm is going to be a great choice to take a look into and an affordable one at that. So a brief overview of what's going on with your Tacoma's electronic throttle body is when you hit the gas pedal, it sends a certain amount of voltage to your ECU, which eventually tells your throttle body to open according to that voltage. And I said "eventually" because there is a small delay within that time it takes to hit the pedal for the throttle body to open. And essentially, what this option is going to do is modify that delay and modify that voltage to either increase or decrease your throttle response. Now, this option by SpeedForm is going to have a number of different modes. So, this will have economy mode as well as comfort, race and sport modes, and even a normal mode. So, what I really like about this option, in particular, is that it's going to have multiple settings for each of those major modes, so you can really fine-tune your throttle response to how you want it in your Tacoma. Now, this is also going to be a very low profile and sleek device. It's gonna have a small screen on the face here and a couple of tactile buttons, so you can manually change it whenever you need to on the fly. Now, again, it's going to be user-friendly and low profile and look very sleek inside the Tacoma, and you really don't have to do any modification in order to get this in your truck. So, I would like to mention as well that this is not a tuner. This is only going to focus on throttle response, and you're not gonna get any horsepower or torque gains or really any performance gains out of this. This is really just going to modify that voltage and give you a little boost off the line. Now, if you are looking to increase your performance, a tuner might be right up your alley, but if you're looking for something just to get a little bit of extra get-up-and-go out of your truck, then this is gonna be a great choice, and it's going to be a lot more affordable than a tuner. So, speaking of that price point, this is gonna be roughly $150, making this one of your most affordable choices for a throttle enhancement device on the page as we speak. Now, this, in comparison to some other options on the page, is going to be very user-friendly. This is going to have, again, that small screen and tactile buttons as to where some other choices may be Bluetooth-compatible, they may have a dial, or they may just have one small button with small adjustability. Now, in my personal opinion, I think if you're not looking for all of the bells and whistles, then this is a great choice. Again, it's low profile. It's going to look good mounted up inside your Tacoma, and it is incredibly easy to install and use. So, speaking of that install, I'm gonna give it a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. We're only working with a couple of plugs here, so it's probably gonna take you about 30 minutes to get the job done at max. So, speaking of that install, let's jump into that now.So, our first step to this install is to drop down our control box. This is going to plug into our bypass wire on our throttle pedal. Now, the other side of this is going to go into our main device here. So, what I'm gonna do is take the part that's going to plug in down at the footwell and drop that underneath our steering wheel. This will give us a good area and a good pass-through point, so then we can mount up our main module on the side here really wherever we want. It's gonna be very easy to do that. And we're just gonna let that hang out and then head underneath so we can unplug our throttle wire. So, this may be a little bit difficult to see, but if you follow the gas pedal all the way up, at the top, you're going to have a wiring harness. What we're gonna do is just unplug the factory harness, and then we can grab our bypass wire and plug that in between. So, we'll plug one side into the harness, making sure we hear a click. And then before we actually plug that into the top of our gas pedal, I'm gonna take the control box while it's here, plug that into the back, that white connector. And then we can take the plug for the top of our gas pedal and plug that in. Again, you want to make sure you hear a click. What we can do now is grab our cable from the wiring harness down at the bottom, grab our device, and plug that into the side. Now, again, you can mount this up wherever you like, wherever you feel fit inside your cab area, wherever it is easily accessible for you. I'm gonna pick right over on the right hand of the steering wheel here. There is a piece of 3M tape on the back, so I'm just going to peel off that backing, making sure that it's right side up, and then place it on the interior. Give it a firm press for about 30 seconds, and then you're all set to go. So, once that's mounted up to your interior, what we can do is clean up our wiring with the provided zip ties. So, once you turn your truck on, the throttle controller will also turn on. We have a display of Normal, and that's going to be our stock setting, and it's going to display as so. Now, if we want to change our setting, all we have to do is press the Mode button, and it will put you in P1. Now, this is going to be comfort mode. This is a blend between sport as well as economy, so you are getting some throttle response increase, but you are also remaining economical while you are driving on the road. Now, you will be able to adjust to different settings within P1 up to 9 settings. If we change and hit Mode again, it will put you into P2. Now, this is going to be sport mode. This is gonna increase over comfort mode as well as the stock setting, so you are going to get a mild increase in throttle response and have a more sporty feel to your throttle response. And again, you will be able to adjust these up and down and fine-tune your settings. Now, if we hit the button again, it will put you into P3. Now, this is going to be race mode, and this is going to be the most acceleration that you're gonna get out of this device. This is gonna have maximum throttle response, or instant response, and you can also, again, adjust the mode here. If we hit it again, you'll see EC, that's our economy mode. You still will be able to adjust this, but it's going to take away the voltage a little bit and help you save on your fuel economy. And if you hit it again, you can completely go back to the stock settings. Again, you can change this on the fly and adjust with the up and down button, making it very user friendly. So that's going to wrap it up for my review and install. Make sure you like and subscribe. Enhances Throttle Response. Eliminate your Tacoma's sluggish throttle response with a SpeedForm Throttle Response Controller. All modern vehicles use a drive-by-wire system that controls the throttle body electronically, similar to a dimmer switch. While innovative, this design causes an irritating delay that is most noticeable when trying to speed up to merge with fast moving traffic or when passing a slower moving car. The SpeedForm Throttle Response Controller actually boost this signal to eliminate the delay for quicker, snappier throttle response, making it a must have for all drive-by-wire vehicles.
Five Modes. The SpeedForm Throttle Response Controller comes with (5) preset control modes for Stock, Eco, Comfort/Sport, Sport and Race applications. Each mode can further be adjusted with nine levels of sensitivity. This allows you to select the mode that works the best for your own personal driving style and needs.
Easy Plug & Play Installation. The SpeedForm Throttle Response Controller connects directly into the stock throttle position sensor found on the drive-by-wire gas pedal using an OEM style plug and play connector with no permanent modifications required. The Throttle Response Controller is 100% reversible and will not leave residual codes on the factory PCM making it warranty friendly.
Application. This SpeedForm Throttle Response Controller is designed for use on all 2005-2021 Toyota Tacoma models.
