How to Install Smittybilt Winch Plate on your 1987-2006 Wrangler

NOTE: Carefully read entire instructions thoroughly before attempting to assemble and/or install this product. These steps are in conjunction with vehicles with the O.E.M. front bumper. Similar steps can be used with other after-market bumpers.


STEP 1: Remove the front plastic frame/stabilizer bar cover. (Fig A) NOTE: The stabilizer cover will not be re-used.

STEP 2: Remove front bumper hardware and tow hooks (if equipped). (Fig B)

STEP 3: Remove the front (only) stabilizer mounting bolt. (Fig B) When mounting plate you will use the included 10 x 50mm bolts.


STEP 4: Install winch plate using the supplied hardware.

A. (TJ) 4- ½ x 1 ½ bolts (Torque to 75 ft. lbs), 2- 10 x 50mm bolts, ¼” spacers (Fig C) B. (YJ) 4- ½ x 1 ½ bolts (Torque to 75 ft. lbs) The large flat washers can be used as spacers. (If needed)


STEP 5: Installation is now complete. Check to make sure all bolts are secure. (You may use included hardware to attach fairlead)

NOTE: With certain front bumpers you will be required to drill the two front mount winch holes through your bumper in order to install the bolts to secure the winch to the winch plate. Use the winch plate as a guide to mark the correct location. (Fig E)
