    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com, and this is my review of the Rugged Ridge Fuel Cover fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This cover is available in both black and a chrome style finish, in aluminum or stainless steel, and in a locking and non-locking version. So whatever you need for your Jeep, we have you covered. The fuel filler cap on our JKs is left exposed which can give it a little bit more of that rugged Jeep look and also follows in line with its ancestry, but if you're one of those people who thinks that looks a little bit unfinished, a fuel cover is a really nice option. While this is mostly a visual modification you can get a locking version of this which will add some function if you have concerns about people getting into your fuel tank. I like this fuel cover in particular because they do offer different materials, finishes, and functions, and they do it all at a really fair price. Once you decide to go with a Rugged Ridge Fuel Cover you will have a couple of decisions to make. As I mentioned they offer this in both stainless steel and aluminum. Now a low grade stainless will rust if it's exposed to the elements, and aluminum will oxidize if it's exposed to the elements. So to be honest I don't see a huge benefit of purchasing one over the other, and the prices are only marginally different. So you choose which ever one you like. After you choose the material you will choose the finish. I prefer the gloss black, but there's also a chrome style version available. Being honest I would like to see Rugged Ridge offer this in a textured black powder coat finish because I think it matches a lot of the black plastic accents on the Jeep a little bit better than the gloss version does. Finally you'll decide if you want the locking or non-locking version of the cover. The locking version offers some added security that a lot of people like while others find it inconvenient to need a key every time you fill up your Jeep. If you decide to go with the non-locking version you'll have a magnetic clasp to make sure that the door stays closed when it should, and all the versions feature a rivet pattern around the outside which gives the door a little bit of style. Getting these fuel doors installed on your Jeep is a really simple process. All you need to do is hold the fuel door up over the factory fuel cap and make sure that it's level. Once you have it leveled and positioned where you like you can mark the four holes, and drill four small pilot holes into the plastic bezel around the fuel filler. After that all you need to do is install the four screws that are included in the kit and you're done. The whole process shouldn't take you more than half an hour and all you'll need is a drill, a drill bit, and a screw driver. Now even though this is mostly a visual modification unless of course you get the locking version, and you have that additional function, I do think that these are fairly priced. They drastically change the look of the Jeep and you're able to get a lot of different options, and really customize what you want for your vehicle when you go with the Rugged Ridge version of the fuel cover. They're a lot of other versions out there that are right around the same price that may or may not give you quite as many options. It's important to note that the factory Mopar version of the fuel door cover is available for only a few dollars more. So it comes down to what you want for your Jeep. So if you're one of those people who doesn't like the look of the exposed fuel cap on the side of your JK, and you want something that's gonna finish off the look. But you also want options for finish, material, and locking versus non-locking I think the Rugged Ridge Fuel Cover is the way to go. They offer all of that at what I think is a pretty fair price. So that's my review of the Rugged Ridge Fuel Cover fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.

      Not a great fit

So in the grand scheme of things, the fuel door dresses up the exposed fuel cap well. It fit fine over the stock trim piece, but it doesn't cover completely over that trim piece to the painted surface of the Jeep, leaving a 1/4" reveal all the way around. I know this is pretty picky, but I could have gotten this fit and look from a fuel door cover that is half the price. Sorry guys, you asked.

      great product

This item was as described and worked well. The fit was a bit loose but it may be because I was nervous to tighten completely. The plastic wasn't exactly thick (maybe 1/8th inch thick). Either way, it worked.

Nice look, Easy Install, Lasts about 6 months

Very easy to install and looks great. Mine held on for right around 6 months, now the door has lost its magnets and will not stay closed. I would not recommend this gas door unless you don't plan on keeping your Jeep long. Purchase the better door.

      Looks awesome!

Love the look it gives. It is pretty solidly on there. You definitely have to use a drill. I didn't drill pilot holes, but used enough force to drill the screws in. Make sure you line it up how you like it and mark with a pencil before drilling in. It can move a bit if you are working alone. If you have a black Wrangler it does not match the paint exactly, but it does look better than an open cap in my opinion.

      Gas Cap Cover

Simply mod to install. Took about 10 minutes. Could have used a third hand to hold the cover while putting in the first screw.

      Fuel Cover

this is a great product and installs as said, i was looking for a cover to ide the cap and it does the job. I think it would be a better product if it was attached with the faux screws on the front. this would require some drilling of small holes but i would commit to it. Thanks for the quality

      Fuel Cover

Looks nice and easy installation. A little worried about the magnets not working down the road but they should last for awhile. Overall I'm happy with it and like the finished look it gives.
