Specs. Winches, extra lights, air compressors, spotlights, and all the other necessities or luxuries of taking your Wrangler on the trail represent a high power drain on the stock battery system which can cause problems with a single battery. Rugged Ridge's Dual Battery Tray Kit lets you upgrade your TJ's electrical system by installing two stacked cylindrical-style sealed gel cell batteries to double the electricity available to your essential off-road applications, and ensure that everything functions at full capacity.

Construction. Rugged Ridge fabricates its Dual Battery Tray Kit out of steel and provides a black powder-coated finish to ensure years of rust-free longevity. The kit includes an upper and lower tray for mounting two stacked cylindrical-style sealed, gel cell batteries, plus all necessary hardware, a hold-down bracket, and a battery relay mounting bracket. No wiring is included but there is a detailed suggested wiring diagram/guide. The tray kit is covered by a 5 year limited warranty.

Application. Fits 1997-2006 Wrangler TJ models.

            3 2005 Wrangler Unlimited - Jay

            Modification Necessary

This battery tray needs a redesign to fit better and mount batteries in a configuration where the positive terminals of both batteries are on the inboard position! If your Jeep has air conditioning the inside battery tie down long bolt is too close to the AC lines! Major - Modification is necessary in a 2004 to 2006 Unlimited, but the tray gives you a starting point in that the bottom tray fits correctly.

            1 1998 Wrangler - Chad

            Bad design

Battery wouldn’t fit flush in the battery trays and the hold down was 2” to small. Talked to tech support. And the didn’t haves answer. They recommend to return it.

            3 2004 Wrangler - JamesF

Top Bruce doesn't fit over optima battery...

All in all, not a bad system. I had to engineer a strap to hold down top battery because the bracket that comes in kit is too small. Was frustrating since the marketing picture shows two red Optima batteries like in my configuration.

            5 2001 - Rexy

            installed in a 2001 TJ 4.0

Received quickly, product is well made and engineered, I had to call the support number to get a copy of the installation guide which was provided immediately via a PDF file. Initial instructions and installation are straight forward, however, I advise you to move slowly in threading the long rods through the upper battery tray and down into the lower tray. If not perfectly lined up there is a high risk of striping the threads into the lower tray. On this Jeep I had to move the fuse box on the fender well about 2 inches forward to clear for the battery posts and making connections. I also had to wrap a piece of rubber tubing around the AC line which is very close to the upper tray to protect from any possible damage in the event of direct contact and vibration. I installed a 150amp isolator (Battery Doctor) on top of the factory air filter cover (sealed with rubber washers) next to the batteries for easy wire up.
