      Review & Installation Video

I'm Ryan from and this is my review of the Rugged Ridge Black Textured Front and Rear Tube Doors fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. These are for those of you who like to go doorless, but want a little bit more of a secure feeling. These are also nice when you're off-road because they give you greater visibility to both the front and rear tires so you can pick your line a little bit better. And they give you something to hold onto when bouncing down those bumpy trails, rather than not having anything if your doors are missing completely. I like these doors over some of the other ones on the market because they provide the opportunity to mount your factory mirrors right on them and they provide all the hardware for that. These include locking latches with them that again, a lot of other manufacturers don't include. These doors are built from one and a half inch mandrel bent steel tubing that's covered with a textured black powder-coated finish and an E-coating, which means that they're going to hold up really well over time and you're not going to have to worry about rust or corrosion because of this finish. Like I mentioned before, I really like these doors over some of the other ones on the market for a few different reasons. One is that this plate up here allows you to mount your factory mirrors off of your factory full doors right onto here and they include all of the hardware. With some of the other options on the market, they don't have this available so you have to move that mirror to the A-pillar. Something else I like about these doors is that they include the latches, and they're locking latches. Some other manufacturers have you buy those separately. Some of you are thinking, "Why do I need a locking latch on my tube door? It's not going to keep anyone from getting into the Jeep," and you're right. What it is going to keep someone from doing is walking away with your door, which is really important when they're as lightweight and easy to move around as these are. When the doors are mounted on the Jeep, the doors are closed and locked. There's no way that somebody can remove the door from the vehicle and take it with them. Something else that these include are nylon limiting straps really similar to your factory limiting straps and a spot to hook them on the door so these doors aren't going to swing completely open, which can damage the body of the Jeep. These doors are designed to mount on the Jeep in the factory door hinges, just like the factory hard doors do. The first step in installation is to remove the factory doors by removing the retaining nuts, lifting the doors off, and putting them in a safe location. From there, you can drop these into place, attach the nylon limiting straps, and if you decide to run the factory mirrors, remove them from your old doors and put them on the new ones. If you're somebody who hasn't removed your factory doors ever or just in a long time, they can be a little bit stubborn. Oftentimes you can spray them with a little bit of penetrating oil, work them back and forth while lifting up, and they will come off. If that doesn't do the trick, I have seen people put a floor jack and a block of wood underneath the door and very slowly raise the jack. If you try this method, make sure you have at least one other set of hands nearby to catch the door because when it does pop off, it can fly through the air, causing a lot of damage to your very expensive door. Assuming your factory doors don't give you a hard time coming off, these will install in less than 10 minutes without the need for any tools at all. Like I said, these doors are designed to install in the Jeep without the need for any drilling at all, even if you use the factory mirrors. However, Rugged Ridge does provide you with a rubber bumper that would need to be drilled into the door if you decide to install it. Installing that rubber bumper can help cure any rattles that you might get out of the latch. If you want to run a set of tube doors on your Jeep, I would recommend these Rugged Ridge ones, especially because of the cost. Like I said before, there are more expensive tube doors that are on the market that don't include mirror mounts or limiting straps or even latches and you have to buy all those things separately that increase an already high cost even more. This is a really fairly priced kit that includes everything you need. So whether you're looking for a set of tube doors because you like that open air driving feel but want a little bit more security or because you could use that additional visibility when picking your line on the trail, I would recommend these tube doors because it's a really complete kit all at a really reasonable price. So that's my review of the Rugged Ridge Black Textured Tube Doors fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at

The kit comes almost ready to install, once the door hinges are on, the doors take minutes to drop in place. Very easy way to safely get the no door experience for kids and pets.

3 2015 Rubicon - JimO Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

        Great look and solid feel.

Nice looking product - these tube doors feel secure and well made. These are lightweight and easy to carry. The install process could have been easier with better instructions (seems like this would be a piece of cake but there are bolt on hinge pins that are not labeled for left or right door. It also would have been helpful for a box wrench to be supplied to hold the nut on the back of the hinge pin assembly (adjustable won't fit so I had to use needlenose pliers). I originally ordered the front and rear doors from Amazon -- the front ones were defective so I sent back and ordered from ExtremeTerrain. I've generally had good luck with mods from Extreme so hoping this one goes the same way. I don't totally trust the latch assembly on these doors...don't slam the doors closed. Push until the latch engages. The canvas straps for the doors are poorly made - I will be looking around for a replacement / stronger material. These doors are worth it for the money and the look, and makes for a safer-feeling ride on-road. Total install time was about an hour.

3 2010 Rubicon - Phrogz Installation Time: Afternoon

Good design, poor instructions, , mediocre quality

Instructions assume that the hinge pins already exist on the doors. They come in a separate bag, and with no instructions I guessed which went with which door; I was wrong, and had to re-do them. They also came with only 12 washers instead of 16 needed. I had to make my own. Attaching these hinge pins and getting them properly aligned took the majority of the install time. Instructions say to use the torx nuts from removing the doors to attach the hinge pins. Nope; the threads on the hinge pins are the wrong size. Thankfully four nuts that I assume were designed for this purpose are included. Instructions say to use the torx bolts from the factory mirrors to attach them to the doors. One of the two bolts is too long, bottoming out in the mirror shaft before the head makes contact with the container. If you tighten the other bolt enough, though, the mirrors are solidly secured. It just looks dumb inside to have a bolt sticking out with a 5mm gap. Passenger door came with an anti-rattle rubber bumper installed. Yay! Kit also included two additional rubber bumpers (different design) with instructions on how to install them. Followed the instructions, drilling a custom 3/16" hole and attempting to screw it in, and the screw broke off in the hole. Had to dip into my own bolts nuts and washers to anchor the other. Also had to cut some of the rubber off, because otherwise the door shuts too tightly and makes it almost impossible to open. Door finish is good, with only 1-2 spots on each door that looked a little marred. You have to look closely to notice, though. Door latches worked well. Exterior handle is good, interior 'handle' is an afterthought that is a bit ghetto even for tube doors. I like that I could use my factory mirrors, though as low as they are now tilting them to the maximum is not _quite_ sufficient to see levelly down the road.

5 2009 Wrangler - AWESOMEDOORS Installation Time: Afternoon

        Recommend these doors!

These doors are fantastic. I received the order in 2 days and the doors came as advertised. The doors are sturdy and look great (see pics). My only criticism is that the doors are not completely put together and required the hinges be bolted on which took longer than expected (~3 hours). The provided rubber bumpers prevented any rattling. I have a 2009 JK 4 door Wrangler and highly recommend these doors.

3 2010 Wrangler - JoshuaR Installation Time: Afternoon

        Would recommend this, however...

so the product itself is a great door, i love the look and the feel of the doors. However, they did not come with instructions which needless to say they are fairly easy to figure out after trial and error but instructions definitely wouldve turned a 4 hour project into an hour project easy. also on my passenger side door the manufactorer correctly had the mirror mounts placed but on my driver side door the mirror mount holes were horizontal instead of vertical so unless ill be looking up to the sky i would like both of my mirrors to be vertical so i can look behind me as mirrors are intended to do. overall im glad i made the purchase, just the lack of instructions and manufactorer mess up made this buy a lot more frustrating than it needed to be.

        Very nice

No problem with the installation. After removing the regular door the tube doors dropped right in place. No adjustment required. If you have a large spare tire make sure you add mirrors to this doors.

1 2011 Wrangler - ElizabethG Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

        Not even close

Ordered these doors and was excited when I got them. Then I opened the box. The door pins were not welded to the door but had to be bolted. No where I'm the pics or install video were they needing to be bolted. They the brand name was spelled wrong. RUGGE RIDGE, seriously. And the topper, the mirror mounting holes were drilled wrong. Drivers side was horizontal and the passenger side vertical. Only good thing to say is they refunded me the money after I didn't want to wait 3 weeks for a replacement set.

        2 - Vince

        Hoping “three’s a charm”

I have now received 2 sets and both sets had a defective driver side door. The mounting plate for the mirror was welded with holes horizontal instead of vertical making it impossible to mount the mirror to the door. Still waiting on my 3rd set, which are coming directly from the factory since Extreme Terrain’s entire inventory has this defect. Doors, including rear, have otherwise met my expectations. However major inconvenience and delay dealing with this factory defect TWICE makes it difficult to give more than 2 stars.

        Returned twice...

I had to return twice because the mounting holes for installing the drivers side mirrors were wrong. Two sets of doors! Same problem. Super annoying. If right the doors would’ve been great though.

If I put the front tube doors, what happens with the interior lights and the alarm of the jeep??, the lights will keep on??

      • Once you remove the doors (If you have a JK) you will disconnect the door wiring harness, radio and lights go off after about 30 seconds automatically when the door wiring harnesses are unplugged. If you have a TJ you would need to remove a fuse to prevent the interior lights from constantly being illuminated.

I like the doors but would have them painted to match the color of the Jeep. Are they also available in a "smooth" finish, which would ease to have them painted

      • These are not offered in alternate finishes.
