Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com and this is my review of the Rugged Ridge Black Textured Front and Rear Tube Doors fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. These are for those of you who like to go doorless, but want a little bit more of a secure feeling. These are also nice when you're off-road because they give you greater visibility to both the front and rear tires so you can pick your line a little bit better. And they give you something to hold onto when bouncing down those bumpy trails, rather than not having anything if your doors are missing completely. I like these doors over some of the other ones on the market because they provide the opportunity to mount your factory mirrors right on them and they provide all the hardware for that. These include locking latches with them that again, a lot of other manufacturers don't include. These doors are built from one and a half inch mandrel bent steel tubing that's covered with a textured black powder-coated finish and an E-coating, which means that they're going to hold up really well over time and you're not going to have to worry about rust or corrosion because of this finish. Like I mentioned before, I really like these doors over some of the other ones on the market for a few different reasons. One is that this plate up here allows you to mount your factory mirrors off of your factory full doors right onto here and they include all of the hardware. With some of the other options on the market, they don't have this available so you have to move that mirror to the A-pillar. Something else I like about these doors is that they include the latches, and they're locking latches. Some other manufacturers have you buy those separately. Some of you are thinking, "Why do I need a locking latch on my tube door? It's not going to keep anyone from getting into the Jeep," and you're right. What it is going to keep someone from doing is walking away with your door, which is really important when they're as lightweight and easy to move around as these are. When the doors are mounted on the Jeep, the doors are closed and locked. There's no way that somebody can remove the door from the vehicle and take it with them. Something else that these include are nylon limiting straps really similar to your factory limiting straps and a spot to hook them on the door so these doors aren't going to swing completely open, which can damage the body of the Jeep. These doors are designed to mount on the Jeep in the factory door hinges, just like the factory hard doors do. The first step in installation is to remove the factory doors by removing the retaining nuts, lifting the doors off, and putting them in a safe location. From there, you can drop these into place, attach the nylon limiting straps, and if you decide to run the factory mirrors, remove them from your old doors and put them on the new ones. If you're somebody who hasn't removed your factory doors ever or just in a long time, they can be a little bit stubborn. Oftentimes you can spray them with a little bit of penetrating oil, work them back and forth while lifting up, and they will come off. If that doesn't do the trick, I have seen people put a floor jack and a block of wood underneath the door and very slowly raise the jack. If you try this method, make sure you have at least one other set of hands nearby to catch the door because when it does pop off, it can fly through the air, causing a lot of damage to your very expensive door. Assuming your factory doors don't give you a hard time coming off, these will install in less than 10 minutes without the need for any tools at all. Like I said, these doors are designed to install in the Jeep without the need for any drilling at all, even if you use the factory mirrors. However, Rugged Ridge does provide you with a rubber bumper that would need to be drilled into the door if you decide to install it. Installing that rubber bumper can help cure any rattles that you might get out of the latch. If you want to run a set of tube doors on your Jeep, I would recommend these Rugged Ridge ones, especially because of the cost. Like I said before, there are more expensive tube doors that are on the market that don't include mirror mounts or limiting straps or even latches and you have to buy all those things separately that increase an already high cost even more. This is a really fairly priced kit that includes everything you need. So whether you're looking for a set of tube doors because you like that open air driving feel but want a little bit more security or because you could use that additional visibility when picking your line on the trail, I would recommend these tube doors because it's a really complete kit all at a really reasonable price. So that's my review of the Rugged Ridge Black Textured Tube Doors fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.

Lightweight Construction. Rugged Ridge Textured Front Tube Doors are made from sturdy E-coat, primered 1.5-inch mandrel bent steel tube. The textured, powder-coat finish makes them corrosion resistant and durable.

Functionality. These Rugged Ridge tube doors provide better on-trail visibility and protection when driving off-road. They feature lockable paddle handle and an adjustable nylon door strap for added convenience. These doors can also be easily stowed away in the back of the vehicle when not required.

Easy Installation. Jeep Wrangler JK tube doors easily replace factory steel doors without any modification. They can be mounted to factory hinge and door latch locations without any drilling.

Application. This pair of Rugged Ridge Black Textured Front Tube Doors are designed to be used on all 2007-2018 Wrangler JK models.

If I put the front tube doors, what happens with the interior lights and the alarm of the jeep??, the lights will keep on??

FernandoV

  • Once you remove the doors (If you have a JK) you will disconnect the door wiring harness, radio and lights go off after about 30 seconds automatically when the door wiring harnesses are unplugged. If you have a TJ you would need to remove a fuse to prevent the interior lights from constantly being illuminated.

What do you do with the wiring harness for the power windows and mirrors .

NormanF

  • When using the Rugged Ridge Black Textured Front Tube Doors you would need to tuck the wiring harness away in a similar manor to how you would when removing the doors completely.

Will I be able to use my stock mirrors w/out replacements brackets? Will i need to purchase relocation brackets to attach my own mirrors?

gabo

  • Hello, the Rugged Ridge Black Textured Front Tube Doors - Pair (07-17 Wrangler JK) come ready to accept factory mirrors, no need to purchase any additional brackets. What we advise is to get a pair of factory replacement mirrors, so that way you don't have to keep on switching mirrors every time you want to switch doors. You can get the Left Side Replacement Mirror - Textured Black (07-17 Wrangler JK) which you can find on our website here: http://www.extremeterrain.com/left-hand-mirror-textured-jk-mcj13l.html and the Right Side Replacement Mirror - Textured Black (07-17 Wrangler JK) which is here: http://www.extremeterrain.com/right-hand-mirror-textured-jk-mcj13r.html

I bought the Rugged Ridge black textured tube doors for look and the summer. I enjoy having them on there rather than no door @ all because eventually it's nice to have a place to rest your arm than just on your leg. My passenger always seems to enjoy having the door too. I get compliments on my Jeep everywhere I go and I am sure the doors are apart of the compliment package now. Love them.

    Door Latch Defects

As indicated by others in their reviews, the front door latches break easily or simply do not work. This applied to both the driver and passenger doors. The driver door latch broke within a few days after initial door installation. The passenger door broke about a week later. Other than that (major) issue, the doors look great, etc.

I am extremely pleased wit the Rugged Ridge doors. The installation was almost flawless. I did however have to bend the latches to a 90 degree position so they would latch. The door straps are the week link. Poorly thought out and shabby craftsmanship. On the up side, I was able to modify them with the help of a sewing machine and now I have a better than custom fit. Take the time, it's worth it. I opted for The Rugged Ridge mirrors to avoid the factory mirror change over and make the whole kit versatile. The mounting holes for the mirrors bugged me a bit so I covered them with magnets. I have shamrocks, scull and crossbones and american flag. Easy when you own a sign shop. I'm ready for any adventure. Overall... Great bang for the buck!

Nice enough, get what you pay for

Install was minutes and the door fit good and look good. Problem reinstalling of the factory mirror - the factory bolts and included bolts are both 40mm are are too long. I had to use M8-25mm. Also the passenger mirror just barely makes contact with the tube. Doors are made in China.

    Rugged Ridge Tube doors

We just purchased a set of these Rugged Ridge doors (front & rear), for our 2015 Wrangler Unlimited. And we must say, without a doubt the best looking doors of all the other options, (atleast in our opinion)? We initially chose them based on their looks "over other options". They seem to go with the body lines of the Jeep perfectly! Plus they look more "rugged" then some of the other tube doors out there! These are made out of nice 1.5" tubing, and have a great "textured" coating, rather than a simple "sprayed on, flat finish"! They fit like a glove, with no adjustments needed! And after installation of the supplied "anti-rattle bumpers", the Jeep goes down the road over bumps without a rattle! And they look completely "Bad-Axx"!! We get compliments everywhere we go with them! Fit, finish, quality, and price ............. all in one! We absolutely recommend these doors! Tim & Cheryl Haas

    Doors not well made?

So I bought 4 of these (2 Front 2 rear) and both on the passenger side experienced a problem. The doors after about a week of use began to latch closed. Upon inspection the door had shifted out of place and the latch was no longer hitting the pin to make it lock. I wound up using “Zip ties” to keep the doors closed. In fairness I called the company (supplied photos) and they are shipping me new ones. Only problem is Rears are now “out of stock” and I have to wait to get them (they are only used in the Summer in the East Coast).

    Tube Doors

These are well made, don't add much in terms of safety, but make people feel better about riding in the open. First set of doors had a passenger side door mount that had been sand-blasted and powder coated by the manufacturer (China) which prevented the door stud bolt from threading. ET replaced them and the second set were fine. The door handle mechanism is a little cumbersome and jams as to prevent the door from staying closed. Once you figure out how the mechanism works its easy enough to jiggle it in to lock it in place. Aside from that, get alot of compliments!

Best tube door for the money.

These doors are are a great alternative for the money. Me and my daughter love riding around in the canyon with them on. She feels more secure with these doors on rather than no doors at all. Love the fact that they have mirror mounts. Easy install. The lock mechanism is a little cheesy, but overall, a great product.

    doorless

These doors are awesome! They look great; easy to install; give a sense of security; and get daily comments from people in traffic. The price, however, is a really high; but on a side note, if they were cheap, then every jeep owner would have them and they would not be so unique. The nylon door straps are not very adjustable. The stitching on one strap broke, but I have a sewing machine and was able to alter them to my desired length.

Good doors, buy screws and toss what they send you

Doors are great looking. You will find however the hardware is junk. The screws for the mirrors are too long, and so are trash. You will have to buy shorter screws. You will also toss the self taping screws for the rubber snubbers. Go get those somewhere else. Would give more stars, but the mfg must know by now that the hardware is not compatible with the doors, and they have not changed.

    More Air!

These basically dropped in place, easy on and off. Factory mirrors fit right and tight. traveled interstate 79 in PA. with these one, 70 mph, no rattle, and the mirrors held tight. Need to get another set of mirrors, that takes longer to change than the doors.
