I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com, and this is my review of the Rugged Ridge Black Cowl Body Armor, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. Part of the fun of having a Jeep is the ability to take the doors off. But those of you who have taken them off once or twice before will know that when you don't have the limiting strap attached, the door can hyper-extend and make contact with the body, causing the mirror to put a dimple in the cowl of the Jeep. And that's where this product comes in. Whether you already have the dimple or you're trying to protect against getting one, this body armor will cover that area and give you the protection you're looking for. A lot of people, if you already have that dent in your cowl, have tried pushing it out from the inside, which can be a little bit difficult, or taking your Jeep to a paintless dent repair shop, which is much more expensive than this armor. So this is just one other option for either covering up that damage or protecting yourself against it. These are made of a UV-treated thermoplastic, which means they're going to be very strong and they're not gonna fade in the sun over time, like some other plastics might. They're designed to install on the Jeep very easily using just 3M tape. And while I personally don't like the look of these, they do serve a function. As I mentioned, getting these installed on the Jeep is a really easy process. They attach to the cowl with just 3M tape. Now, any time you're using 3M, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. One is that you wanna have the surface of the Jeep really clean before you apply this. I recommend using an alcohol prep pad or some other type of cleaner that's similar, to strip everything off of the paint, including the wax, and getting a nice, clean surface. The other thing to remember is that you have to do this at a fairly warm temperature. If you try to install these in the middle of the winter, the 3M adhesive won't do a good job of sticking, and there's a chance they're going to pop off. But if you install these in a heated garage or on a nice summer day, the adhesive will stick and these will stay in place until you want to remove them. The whole process of the installation shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes, and you won't need any specialty tools. However, you will need some cleaners.I think this cowl body armor is fairly priced, especially when you consider the alternative. If you already have the dimples in your cowl, they are gonna be expensive to repair, much more expensive than it would be to purchase this armor. And this is a good, cheap insurance for protecting yourself against the dimples, if you're somebody who takes your doors on and off a lot.So that's my review of the Rugged Ridge Black Cowl Body Armor, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs, that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Are there any issues with water and moisture getting underneath over time?
We have not experienced issues with moisture ingress with these covers.
Unfortunately while putting my doors back on, the wind grabbed the door and bowed the cowl area on my car due to the side view mirror. Doh! Do you think this would adhere to a partially bowed in area? Hoping I can just cover it up instead of replacing that metal part..
If the double sided tape will not be where the dented area is and makes a complete contact around the perimeter of this item then it should be able to be used.
Do the coals come in chrome or stainless steel
We only offer the Rugged Ridge Black Cowl Body Armor in black at this time.
Do these come in the diamond pattern too? I am trying to find the same exact diamond patter to match the other Rugged Ridge body armor products and the diamond patter rock shield. Any diamond pattern brand that has cowl guards, corner guards, and a hood rock shield with the diamond pattern would be awesome.
At this time, Rugged Ridge does not offer the Rugged Ridge Black Cowl Body Armor in any pattern other than that which is pictured. We do offer the RedRock 4x4 Cowl Body Armor in a diamond plate style finish, linked below: https://www.extremeterrain.com/redrock-4x4-cowl-body-armor-textured-black-0717.html
besides the linear pattern vs diamond plate, whats the diff between this product vs the cheaper (much cheaper) diamond plate one? the diamond plate is $15 and this one is $55
The Rugged Ridge Black Cowl Body Armor is made by a different manufacturer than the RedRock 4x4 Cowl Body Armor which will account for part of the price difference. Additionally the Rugged Ridge unit is slightly thicker than the Red Rock equivalent.
