    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com, and this is my review of the Rugged Ridge Fuel Cover fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This cover is available in both black and a chrome style finish, in aluminum or stainless steel, and in a locking and non-locking version. So whatever you need for your Jeep, we have you covered. The fuel filler cap on our JKs is left exposed which can give it a little bit more of that rugged Jeep look and also follows in line with its ancestry, but if you're one of those people who thinks that looks a little bit unfinished, a fuel cover is a really nice option. While this is mostly a visual modification you can get a locking version of this which will add some function if you have concerns about people getting into your fuel tank. I like this fuel cover in particular because they do offer different materials, finishes, and functions, and they do it all at a really fair price. Once you decide to go with a Rugged Ridge Fuel Cover you will have a couple of decisions to make. As I mentioned they offer this in both stainless steel and aluminum. Now a low grade stainless will rust if it's exposed to the elements, and aluminum will oxidize if it's exposed to the elements. So to be honest I don't see a huge benefit of purchasing one over the other, and the prices are only marginally different. So you choose which ever one you like. After you choose the material you will choose the finish. I prefer the gloss black, but there's also a chrome style version available. Being honest I would like to see Rugged Ridge offer this in a textured black powder coat finish because I think it matches a lot of the black plastic accents on the Jeep a little bit better than the gloss version does. Finally you'll decide if you want the locking or non-locking version of the cover. The locking version offers some added security that a lot of people like while others find it inconvenient to need a key every time you fill up your Jeep. If you decide to go with the non-locking version you'll have a magnetic clasp to make sure that the door stays closed when it should, and all the versions feature a rivet pattern around the outside which gives the door a little bit of style. Getting these fuel doors installed on your Jeep is a really simple process. All you need to do is hold the fuel door up over the factory fuel cap and make sure that it's level. Once you have it leveled and positioned where you like you can mark the four holes, and drill four small pilot holes into the plastic bezel around the fuel filler. After that all you need to do is install the four screws that are included in the kit and you're done. The whole process shouldn't take you more than half an hour and all you'll need is a drill, a drill bit, and a screw driver. Now even though this is mostly a visual modification unless of course you get the locking version, and you have that additional function, I do think that these are fairly priced. They drastically change the look of the Jeep and you're able to get a lot of different options, and really customize what you want for your vehicle when you go with the Rugged Ridge version of the fuel cover. They're a lot of other versions out there that are right around the same price that may or may not give you quite as many options. It's important to note that the factory Mopar version of the fuel door cover is available for only a few dollars more. So it comes down to what you want for your Jeep. So if you're one of those people who doesn't like the look of the exposed fuel cap on the side of your JK, and you want something that's gonna finish off the look. But you also want options for finish, material, and locking versus non-locking I think the Rugged Ridge Fuel Cover is the way to go. They offer all of that at what I think is a pretty fair price. So that's my review of the Rugged Ridge Fuel Cover fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.

      Rugged Ridge Fuel Cover

This product gives the car a great look and the fact that it looks made it that much more appealing to me. Although in the winter when it is below 25 degrees the lock starts to not work and freezes so i could not put fuel in my vehicle until it heated up. I have had this product about a year now and the ware is terrible, multiple paint flakes and chips. Does not hold up to weather.

      black fuel cover

Install was easy. A little nervous about the screws in plastic filler housing. I may remove it if it gets loose and add some clear silicon adhesive. The look is really good. I won't lock it because it would be so easy to pry off if someone really wants you gas. It has a magnetic latch so leaving unlocked is no problem. It is a nice touch for your jeep accents and you can have black, chrome, or perhaps paint it your own color.

      Easy install, looks great

Install maybe took 10 minutes, if even that long. While it comes with self-tapping screws, I pre-drilled holes to make it a smooth install.

Key lock is stubborn with both keys

Easy install, looks good. Complaint is the locking mechanism has trouble opening with both keys that were supplied. It can be closed and left unlocked. Someone else said they had same issue. Has gotten worse with time

Horrible quality- multiple orders all junk

First of all the quality is horrible. The latch broke on the first one I used it once. When I received it I knew something was not right. It didn’t want to lock and the key barley fit. After The install I couldn’t I used it once it seems like the lock was stuck and I was close to empty finally got it to unlock and the latch fell off . I ordered a replacement and tried it again while I returned the other hoping it would work .... they sent me one and the key didn’t even fit .... I returned both and now am left with four screws where the gas cap cover is supposed to be. Total junk !0

      Cheaply made, not worth it

Installed the first locking gas tank cover and it broke literally ....the locking arm just fell apart. It never worked properly and the lock is so cheap. I wanted to try it again and I had to order another one to replace it. I was hoping it would work since now I have screw holes where the old gas tank cover was. I got the second one and the keys do not even fit so I did not install it. I sent them both back. Waiting on the Return to get my money back. Never buying rugged ridge again.

      Locking gas cover

It does everything we though it would do. It makes the look of the Jeep better, I hated the open hole where the gas cap is, and this covered it up and made it look more sleek. And the price was great. Thanks

      Just threw mine away

Certainly is not cheap but looks it. Very easy to install. From the beginning (had this over a year) on occasion I've had to fight to unlock it. Tried spraying with lube numerous times. The last straw was recently at the gas pump I just could not get it to open. Felt like an idiot trying for 10 minutes. Finally (since I was pretty much out of gas) I pried it open with a screw driver. Just finished putting on the "new" Rugged Ridge Elite Fuel Door. I'll let you know how this one works.
