Will this allow me to take my entire hard top off with ease?

        • You will not be able to completely remove or reinstall a hard top while this rack is in place. It will require full removal. You can remove freedom panels and push soft tops back with this rack installed.

Do I need to modify stock rear bumper and fender to fit this?

        • No, this roof rack will install with the stock rear bumper and fender flares on your JK.

I don't see many reviews - I really like the look of this rack and would use it to carry my canoe and Thule but am concerned about the wind whistle that I keep hearing about. Is there a resolution? Is it common to most owners? Is there a deflector to combat this?

        • Hello, unfortunately the wind noise is common, not just on this rack, but anything really you add above the windshield. There isn't a deflector for this exact rack (or other) what we advise to do, is research how other people were able to reduce the noise.

what is the diameter of the tubing i didn't see it anywhere. and i have a 2016 4 door 75th anniversary edition wrangler, will this rack still fit with the factory steel bumpers without modification?

        • The Rugged Ridge Sherpa Roof Rack Kit (07-17 Wrangler JK 4-Door has 2" round tubing. The roof rack mounts onto the frame and should mount with no problem from your factory rear bumper.

Can you tilt this back to open the soft top with a load on the rack? Something light like a surfboard or SUP?

        • It would be ideal to remove anything on the rack before tilting back, however, as long as the surfboard is properly secured I don't see an issue with that.

            works good

Went on without a problem and I can use the sun rider but it puts a bit more pressure on the sun rider when in use than what I would like. I'm going to add a 1" block (spacer) on the back of the rack I think it should help. Be careful not to let it fold down to hard on your soft top it will put holes in it.

            Decent roof rack

Pros: This roof rack compliments the Jeep well with a smaller profile that hugs the outside fairly well. Although I haven't maxed out the weight, the construction seems sturdy with only minimal gyration on bumpy terrain. It's very easy to disconnect at the front (takes 10 seconds) and put your top up and down for soft top owners. Cons: the instructions suck as the illustrations do a poor job of putting in context what part of the Jeep you are working on. You have to drill into your Jeep twice, buy extra sealant, grease, and some additional components before you proceed, all of which I wasn't expecting. It's also loud. Anything over 60 on the highway and you will feel like you are in a plane. Other than that, it's asthetically very good looking and functional. So if you can manage to install it and get used to the increased noise, I would recommend this product.

Good for cargo, bad for noise!

This rack fits great, looks great, and was fairly easy to install. People have complained that holes didn't line up but I did not have that problem. I'm very happy with the look and quality. The one thing I'm not happy with, however, is the noise. It starts whistling at around 40 mph and gets louder the faster you go. I'm not talking about a small whistle, either: it sounds like there's a football referee on the roof. My kids cover their ears. My dog howls. I can't turn the stereo up loud enough to drown it out. I managed to dampen it a bit by installing some rubber door edging on the lead edge above the windshield, but it's still annoying. If I don't figure something out soon I'm afraid this thing might have to come off...

            Great product

Very pleased with this roof rack. From the day I ordered it to installation was only 5 days. Only thing I would suggest is marking the pieces for installation, it would help making it easier to install. Some of the pieces are not clear where they are to be placed. Took me about 2 hours to install, with help holding a couple pieces. About 15 minutes to unpack and lay out pieces.

            VERY POOR FITMENT

Very disappointing that the fitment was so bad after spending so much on it. Specifically the front bar and front bar bottom supports. I'm highly mechanically inclined but this is what happens when you have things made overseas and do not quality check. First they could shave the bottom brackets all around so they aren't so close to the finish of the vehicle. With the poor fitment you ARE going to chip your paint since you have to fit, fit, and refit. The lower brackets would not have been an issue however the bottom and top brackets are so out of angle alignment that you literally have refit it over and over to make it work. I'm not exaggerating here, they were 3/4 of an inch out of alignment !! Not only that but the bottom angle doesn't match the top angle which is most of the problem, You WILL struggle with these 2 pieces. It does look good when done but you will pull your hair out and more than likely chip your paint. I don't recommend this for a novice at all.

This roof rack #1in my book. Great rack!!

This rack is fairly easy to install in an afternoon with a helper. I love the look. I do suggest putting a blanket on the roof to protect it just in case you drop something during the install. Comes with pre-drilled holes and grommets so you can run your light wires internally for a clean looking install.
