I have a DV8 rear bumper with the DV8 spare tire carrier attachment, I like the rack and would like to purchase one. However, would you have any suggestions ref installation based on the bumper and tire carrier that would minimize modifying the rear bumper..???

SteveB

  • Most DV8 Bumpers will not have enough wrap around for the Rugged Ridge Sherpa Roof Rack Kit to properly fit. Custom brackets may be required to allow proper fitment and functionality of the roof rack.

Is there any way to attach the roof rack to the frame(rear)? I have the RedRock 4x4 Rock Crawler Rear Bumper - Textured Black .

Bryan

  • Unfortunately, this Rugged Ridge Sherpa Roof Rack Kit is specifically designed to mount to the rear bumper so that the tilting function remains operable. We do offer roof racks that mount to the frame that may be comparable to the fitment you are looking for, the Barricade Roof Rack - Textured Black mounts to the frame rather than the rear bumper. It can be found here: https://www.extremeterrain.com/barricade-roof-rack-black-jk-j100173.html

I have this Rack installed for about 2 years, one of the rear curved pipes (the one that swivels back) has rottten and it has a big hole on it and also one of the parts that installs on the front windshield is starting to rott on the welds. Do you guys sell separate pieces for the rack?

EdM

  • At this time we do not offer individual components for the Rugged Ridge Sherpa Roof Rack Kit. Please contact our Customer Service Department so that we may get more info on the issue, and go over options with you.

how wide is the front windshield bar across the top? Can I mount a 50 inch Raxiom light bar onto this front piece? I currently have the rigid industries mount but these will pose a conflict with the Sherpa roof rack. Is there an alternate solution to mount the light bar and a roof rack?

Jeepers

  • Hello, unfortunately it doesn't seem that you would be able to install a 50" Light Bar on this Rack.

Will this roof rack fit my 2008 JKU with a 50 in raxiom light bar mounted over the windshield? The light bar is mounted with the rigid industries windshield mount

Jeepers

  • Hello, the roof rack uses the same mounting points as the light bar bracket, so they may not work together.

    Decent roof rack

Pros: This roof rack compliments the Jeep well with a smaller profile that hugs the outside fairly well. Although I haven't maxed out the weight, the construction seems sturdy with only minimal gyration on bumpy terrain. It's very easy to disconnect at the front (takes 10 seconds) and put your top up and down for soft top owners. Cons: the instructions suck as the illustrations do a poor job of putting in context what part of the Jeep you are working on. You have to drill into your Jeep twice, buy extra sealant, grease, and some additional components before you proceed, all of which I wasn't expecting. It's also loud. Anything over 60 on the highway and you will feel like you are in a plane. Other than that, it's asthetically very good looking and functional. So if you can manage to install it and get used to the increased noise, I would recommend this product.

Good for cargo, bad for noise!

This rack fits great, looks great, and was fairly easy to install. People have complained that holes didn't line up but I did not have that problem. I'm very happy with the look and quality. The one thing I'm not happy with, however, is the noise. It starts whistling at around 40 mph and gets louder the faster you go. I'm not talking about a small whistle, either: it sounds like there's a football referee on the roof. My kids cover their ears. My dog howls. I can't turn the stereo up loud enough to drown it out. I managed to dampen it a bit by installing some rubber door edging on the lead edge above the windshield, but it's still annoying. If I don't figure something out soon I'm afraid this thing might have to come off...

    Great product

Very pleased with this roof rack. From the day I ordered it to installation was only 5 days. Only thing I would suggest is marking the pieces for installation, it would help making it easier to install. Some of the pieces are not clear where they are to be placed. Took me about 2 hours to install, with help holding a couple pieces. About 15 minutes to unpack and lay out pieces.

    VERY POOR FITMENT

Very disappointing that the fitment was so bad after spending so much on it. Specifically the front bar and front bar bottom supports. I'm highly mechanically inclined but this is what happens when you have things made overseas and do not quality check. First they could shave the bottom brackets all around so they aren't so close to the finish of the vehicle. With the poor fitment you ARE going to chip your paint since you have to fit, fit, and refit. The lower brackets would not have been an issue however the bottom and top brackets are so out of angle alignment that you literally have refit it over and over to make it work. I'm not exaggerating here, they were 3/4 of an inch out of alignment !! Not only that but the bottom angle doesn't match the top angle which is most of the problem, You WILL struggle with these 2 pieces. It does look good when done but you will pull your hair out and more than likely chip your paint. I don't recommend this for a novice at all.

This roof rack #1in my book. Great rack!!

This rack is fairly easy to install in an afternoon with a helper. I love the look. I do suggest putting a blanket on the roof to protect it just in case you drop something during the install. Comes with pre-drilled holes and grommets so you can run your light wires internally for a clean looking install.
