Merideth: If you need some more storage space than your bed or your cab will allow on your 2005 or newer double cab Toyota Tacoma, this Redrock OEM Style Cross-Bar Roof Rack will be a good option to take a look into. Now, this will enhance the capabilities of your Tacoma when it comes to your adventures, offering a cross-bar rack on top for any larger cargo or mountable accessories for your everyday driving, over-landing trips, or your vacations. Now, with the OE styling, this is definitely for the Tacoma owner looking to keep it pretty subtle when it comes to a factory-style build and doesn't need anything extra like a basket or a platform rack and just wants the ability to tuck it away when they're not using it. Now, this will feature a dual cross-bar setup with the ability to mount up a wide range of accessories. It's pretty universal when it comes to that. And it's going to feature a vertical and a horizontal design,And the bars will just swing into place of whichever configuration you need it to be in at that time, making it super versatile and super user-friendly. Now, not to mention, the low profile design will be subtle and sleek compared to some other larger options if you're looking to keep it on the smaller side when it comes to a roof rack. Now, this is gonna be made of a couple of things. So, the bottom portion here in the main part of the rack is gonna be made of an OE-grade heavy-duty plastic construction. It's gonna be durable and able to last. Now, the crossbar itself is gonna be made of an aluminum construction. It's gonna have a nice textured black powder coat finish on top. It is going to be a fine black powder coat, giving a premium appearance and also just matching with the rest of the rack. Now, the bottom of this rack here is gonna come with a seal to make sure that it is a seamless fit when this is installed on the roof. And you're also gonna get this little tail end at the back, which has 3M automotive grade tape to make sure that that back portion of the roof has a complete look in addition to the roof rack that's installed with it. Now, not to mention, it's gonna come with all the hardware that you need to install it for a straightforward install, and it's not gonna require any modification or drilling when it comes to putting this on your Tacoma. Now, this will be pretty affordable for a roof rack, coming in at about $275. Now, compared to others, this is going to replicate the factory, come with the dual configuration, and it's gonna be pretty well built so you can count on this when it comes to hauling your cargo on your Tacoma. Now, others available will usually take that aftermarket approach with, again, those basket or platform options, and they may have a higher load capacity just considering that they're made for heavier items, including, like, rooftop tents and heavy, heavy cargo. That's why this is going to be able to carry larger cargo but may not be able to carry a rooftop tent. Now, not to mention, other choices may not have the dual function that this does, making this a little bit more versatile. Now, I think if you are a fan of the complete look and want a rack that's going to offer more than the average when it comes to the function, then this is definitely gonna be it.Now, install is gonna be very simple and straightforward at a one-out-of-three wrenches on the difficulty meter, taking you about an hour to get the job done with some pretty basic hand tools. At this point, we can head over to the shop and check out a detailed breakdown of how to get this onto your Tacoma at home step by step. So, that's gonna wrap it up for me. Let's go ahead and get into it.Man: The tools you'll need for this project are a trim removal tool, some rubbing alcohol, a clean cloth, a razor blade or utility knife, and the supplied Allen wrench. Hi, everyone. Today, we're installing a roof rack on our Tacoma. But before we can do that, let's get started with the uninstall process first. So, the first thing we're gonna want to do is remove this upper trim piece on both sides of the roof so that we can access the mounting holes that are underneath it from the factory. To do that, we're gonna use a trim removal tool. We're gonna get underneath the edge of it here and just pry it up. Now, yours may be a little bit more difficult to get up because of the adhesive that's on the back, but you get the idea. Next thing we're gonna do is remove this long piece here using the same process. So, we'll get our tool underneath it, lift it up, and pull it off from the front. Now, the next thing that's gonna have to happen is that there are three adhesive covers that go over the mounting holes here. You're gonna wanna use a razor blade very carefully to remove those covers so that we have access to the mounting holes underneath, all right? Ours has already been removed. We've done this a couple of times. We're not gonna be able to show you that, but you're just gonna use a razor blade very carefully to remove these covers that go over these holes. All right. So, once we've got the adhesive covers removed from the mounting bolts, next thing we're gonna wanna do is just clean it up a little bit using some rubbing alcohol and a clean cloth. So, just go through it, that way it removes any dirt and maybe any leftover residue from the adhesive. So, we'll just clean this whole track out like so. Now, we can go ahead and install our front bracket. Now, these are side-specific, so you wanna make sure that when you mount this, the large hole is facing towards the back of the truck and the mounting holes go over the two holes right here, you know, already in the truck. And you wanna make sure that this hole at the back of the bracket is facing towards the outside of the truck. Now, we're gonna go ahead and use the shorter bolts with a rubber washer that is supplied in the kit to secure the bracket to the truck. And we'll go ahead and tighten those down with the supplied Allen wrench. Now, we can go ahead and put our roof rack on, making sure that it's centered over the bracket. Now, once we've got that done, what we're gonna do in order to access the holes at the top of this roof rack is we're gonna have to open this up. And to do that, we've gotta go to the back of the truck. Now to open up this roof rack, we're just gonna push down on the back and lift up on the handle and then we can lift the roof rack out and swing it out. And that'll give us the access that we need to the front bolts to attach it to the bracket. All right, now that we've got our roof rack opened up, there's two holes at the top here. And we're gonna, again, use the short bolts with a rubber washer and insert those into the mounting holes and secure it with the Allen wrench. Now, we don't wanna tighten these down quite yet because we still got some bolts to insert into the rear. So, we're just gonna leave these loose for the moment. Now we can move on to the rear bolts. All right, now we're gonna use the three longer bolts with a rubber washer on them to do the last three, two in the rear here and one right in the middle. So, we're gonna go ahead and just go ahead and put those in, secure it with the supplied Allen wrench. Now, I would definitely advise against tightening these down all the way yet until you get the other side done just to make sure everything is lined up properly. And then we come back and we'll tighten them down completely. Now, on the back of the roof rack, you'll notice that there's some double-sided tape here. So, we're just gonna peel that backing off, make sure that it's lined up in the opening correctly, and then go ahead and press it down. And then you can repeat this whole process for the other side. All right, now that we've got both sides installed, we can go ahead and connect our crossbars together. And once we've got them connected, we'll go ahead and tighten down the bolt at the top of the crossbar using the supplied Allen wrench and lock everything in place. So, once we've got that done and everything is secured together, then we'll go back and tighten up all the rest of our bolts as well. And that wraps up our review and install of the Red Rock OEM Style Cross-Bar Roof Rack for the '05 to '23 Tacoma Double Cab. Thanks for watching. And remember, for all things Tacoma, keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
