Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com and this is my review of the RedRock 4x4 Trail 13 inch Short Antenna fitting all 1997 to 2016 TJs. This part is a little bit form and a little bit function. A lot of people like the way that these 13-inch antennas over the much taller factory metal antenna. And this is designed to bend and spring back straight again if you get it hooked on a tree branch on the trail. Where the factory metal antenna will bend and stay bent until you manually bend it straight again. Now with any shorty antenna, you are going to lose a little bit of radio reception. So if you already have weak reception and you listen to the radio a lot, this might not be the best model for you. This antenna is priced right around the same area as a lot of other shorty antennas and in my mind, I can't see a reason to spend more on one of those more expensive options. This is designed to replace your factory antenna, which is a full 31 inches tall, with this much more compact 13-inch tall antenna. This is covered with a rubber weatherproof coating and, as we said before, it's designed to bend and snap back straight again unlike some other shorty antennas that are on the market. One thing that will save you a little bit of money with this shorty antenna is that it includes just the antenna that screws directly into your factory base. Some other shorty antennas will include a different base which ups the price a little bit, but in my mind, there's no reason to swap out the base. You're not going to get any better reception. It may just look a little bit different. As we said before, this will install in the Jeep very, very easily. All you need to do is unscrew your factory antenna and screw the new on into place. If the factory antenna is a little bit too tight to unscrew by hand, You may need a small adjustable wrench or the proper size open-end wrench, but that's the only tool you're going to need. If this took you 15 minutes to install, it took you a long time. Like we said before, this antenna is priced similarly to other antennas on the market of the same design. There are some more expensive all metal or aluminum antennas, but those ones will bend and stay bent and not spring back like this one will. And there are some shorty antennas that include a base but, again, it's not really necessary. Although, it will change up the look a little bit more. Even though all shorty antennas will decrease your radio reception a little bit, if you like the look, I think this is a very fairly priced shorty antenna option. So if you're looking to replace your factory, much taller metal antenna with one of these shorty antennas that not only looks better but will also spring back into shape if you do get it hooked on a trail obstacle, this is a really fairly priced high-quality option. So that's my review of the RedRock 4x4 Trail 13 inch Short Antenna fitting all 1997 to 2016 TJs that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Low Profile Flexible Design. Get rid of that ugly 30" eye sore Chrysler calls an antenna, and replace it with a low profile RedRock 4x4 13" Shorty Trail Antenna. The Shorty Trail Antenna features a flexible spring like design that keeps it from being caught or bent on the brush or low hanging limbs that you’ll encounter along the trail.

Excellent Radio Reception. There's no difference in radio reception. All you're really losing is 17" of unsightly steel from the front of your Jeep. The RedRock 4x4 13” Shorty Trail Antenna was designed to provide excellent radio reception in and around major cities and towns - may vary by location.

Quality Build and Finish. This 13" RedRock 4x4 Trail Shorty Antenna is manufactured with a spring steel core with a durable rubber coated exterior that allows for spring like flexibility. The satin-black rubberized coating is both scratch and weather resistant for years of use and abuse on the trail.

Easy Installation. Modding your TJ Wrangler doesn't get any easier than this. This RedRock 4x4 Antenna installs directly into the original factory antenna mount. Simply unscrew your old antenna and screw the new one in its place. Installation can be completed in under five minutes.

3 Year Limited Warranty. To ensure the highest quality of their materials and craftsmanship, RedRock 4x4 backs their products with a 3 Year Limited Warranty. Some exclusions may apply, please see manufacturer's warranty for details.

Application. This RedRock 4x4 Trail 13" Shorty Antenna is designed to fit all 1997 to 2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ models. Factory antenna mount required for installation (sold separately).

    Don't by it

There was no where to get a wrench on this antenna to tighten it down. I could only get the threads half way down into the mount point. Then I noticed that the radio reception was horrible so I took it off and put back on the stock antenna. This is still laying on my work bench. I say don't waste your time or money on this product

    Short antenna

I needed a short antenna to clear the lights I mounted to my windshield hinges. The factory antenna had to be moved either in front or behind the lights but never stayed in place. It also scratched the back of my lights. This antenna clears the lights easily. I can't comment on the reception because it is winter and my jeep won't leave the heated garage till the salt is off the roads

    Stubby Antenna

Really like the way it looks but, living in the hills and valley's of Connecticut I do not get the reception of the stations that I got with the stock antenna. I will be buying a longer version of the same one when they become available.

    It comes up short!

It looks good, it's simple to install, but there's almost zero radio reception once you drive out of town. It's not sour that the $25 it costs.

    Easy and nice!

Couldn't be any simpler to install and radio reception is just as good as the factory metal antenna. Very pleased with only having to replace the antenna itself and not the base! Thanks so much for the easy install and excellent quality!

    This antenna is worthless

Absolutely worthless product. I'm literally returning it today. My stock antenna isnt all that great to begin with, so I thought - "Hey, why not improve my reception AND aesthetics at the same time??" Well jokes on me, because this thing can barely pick up normal FM stations. Want to listen to a station more than 20 miles away? Good luck with that. Interested in AM talk radio? Don't worry about getting the news because you won't be able to pick up AM stations either. Side bonus, if you have any lights installed with a window bracket at the bottom corners of your window, it probably won't fit with those either.

    Very Simple

Received the antenna and installed it in a minute. Screwed off my old one and simply screwed on the new one. Works the same as the old one and you won't have to worry about constant wobble from the old antenna anymore.

    Short Antenna for 2003 TJ

I just installed this antenna on my Jeep. I was looking for something that would not get damaged when I was off-roading.This antenna fit the bill. It was easy to install and it had no impact on my radio reception. Excellent quality and it looks good.

    Short Antenna

The little antenna works great! Very, very easy to install...just unscrew the original, and add this rubber antenna. Takes about 3 minutes or so. Only downside is how much the antenna bends at speeds over 60 mph. Reception is still OK, but the antenna is really affected by wind speed...serious bending angle. I guess that's the intent, but I'd prefer just a tad more "firmness" in the rubber...hence the 4 star rating.

    Easy switch over

Hi, just got it in the mail, and the installation was a snap! took like 4 minutes, if that long. It looks great and I've found no change in radio reception..worth the few dollars it cost, and now I won't have the old one banging up my Jeeps finish! Wrangler 2013
