      Video Review & Installation

Hi, guys. So, today, we're checking out the RedRock 4x4 hitch in textured black, fitting all 2007 to 2018 at JK Wranglers. So, if you are in search of some small mods that are gonna add some extra utility to your Wrangler, this is definitely a great choice to take a look into. Now, this will be great for the Jeep owner that did not get a hitch right out of the factory or has already upgraded their rear bumper and it did not come with a hitch. Now, this is gonna be great for a number of different reasons. It's going to be a very functional, mounted up to the back of your Wrangler, whether you're looking to mount up any hitch-mounted accessories like a bike rack or a basket, whether you're looking to use it as a third recovery point in the back, or if you're looking to do any small or light towing with a small dolly, or so on.Now, this is going to bolt directly to the frame, which is gonna make it a solid mounting point, and this will also be made of a heavy-duty steel material so you can ensure that it's gonna hold up. It's gonna have a nice textured black powder coat finish on top that will match with any other heavy-duty accessories and also give it more of an off-road feel, and of course, protect that steel underneath. And it's also gonna come with a mount or your hitch plug, if you have one installed on your Wrangler already. Now, with that being said, this is gonna be the more affordable option for choices for hitches on the page at roughly $90. Now, in comparison to some other options, this is going to be pretty simple and straightforward, which I really think shines through. Now, some other choices may come with a cover for the back of the hitch. Some other options may also include a full hitch wiring harness, or a hitch plug if you don't already have one mounted on your Jeep, which may be a little bit more expensive than this choice. So, it really kind of comes down to your application, what you're looking to do with it. Now, in my personal opinion, I think if you're just looking for some of those options as far as a third recovery point, small towing, and any hitch-mounted accessories, you don't need any of those extra bells and whistles, then this is gonna be right up your alley. As far as install goes, I'm gonna give this a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. This is incredibly easy to install. You're gonna need some very basic hand tools to get the job done, and probably an hour's worth of your time. So, speaking of the install, let's jump into that now.Tools that I used for my install were an electric ratchet, a 19-millimeter wrench, 3/8-inch drive ratchet, an 18-millimeter, and a 16-millimeter socket. So, our first step to this install is taking off our factory rear bumper. Now, you don't necessarily have to do this step. It's just gonna give you a little bit of extra room to work with. So, if you do have a bumper on your Wrangler, that you're able to have enough space to install the hitch, you definitely don't have to take it off. And I'm just gonna take it off to give you guys a better visual and also just to have some extra room to tighten down our bolt for our hitch. So, over on this side of our bumper on our frame rail, there's gonna be two bolts holding in the side of the factory bumper. I'm gonna be using a 16-millimeter socket in order to remove those. And we can repeat that process on the other side. Now, we can go ahead and remove our rear bumper. Now, at this point, we can take our hitch and we can line it up with the factory mounting locations in the back of our frame here. I'm gonna start with the two bolts on the inside. This is going to be the bolt lock washer and flat washer. I'm gonna put those through the hitch through the frame and then we can start to thread that into the welded nut on the back of our hitch. And we can do the same thing for the second center mount. Then we can grab our bolt with the two flat washers and nylon locknut. And we can do the same thing, except where we're just going to thread the provided nut on the end. Now, we can repeat that on the other mounting location, however, we're gonna have a hitch plug mount as well. So, this can either sit on the outside or the inside, depending on your preference. Then we can just bolt it up as normal. All right. Then we can take a 19-millimeter wrench and an 18-millimeter socket, and we can tighten those up.Now, for the center two, you'll just need that 18-millimeter socket. Sometimes it's helpful to thread them all the way in by hand. You can pop your hitch plug into place, then we can reinstall our rear bumper. What we can do at this point is reinstall our rear bumper. We can close up our tailgate. Once those are threaded in place, we can tighten them up with a 16-millimeter socket. And we can repeat that on the other side. So, that is going to wrap it up for my review and install.
