Ryan: These RedRock 4x4 3-Inch Round Curved Side Step Bars in Textured Black are for anyone with a two-door 2018 and up JL that are looking for a step bar that's going to make it easier for them and their passengers to get in and out of their Jeep, but don't have the need for much more expensive armor. This is going to be a nice, easy one out of three wrenches for the installation and we will show you how to get it done in just a second. So, as I mentioned, the things that you can bolt onto that rocker area of your Jeep really fall into two categories. A step like we're looking at today, an armor and a lot of armor will also be a little bit of a step as well, but not nearly as functional as this will be. This is gonna sit a little bit lower and a little bit further away from the Jeep, giving you a nice, solid stepping surface where armor, if it does have a step at all, is gonna be tucked up a little bit tighter to the Jeep. And armor is gonna be a lot heavier and generally a lot more expensive offering a lot more protection from the rocks off-road. This is not going to offer as much protection and, in fact, will be a little bit of a hindrance off-road just because of how low and far away from the Jeep it does hang. But it is going to be much less expensive than armor. So there is definitely going to be a tradeoff there. But if you're not planning on doing a lot of hardcore off-roading, you want something that's gonna make it easy for you to get in and out of your Jeep and you want a little bit of light protection against doordings or that rogue shopping cart, this is going to do it for you. Now, let's go ahead and unpack the name of this for just a second because there is a lot in there. So 3-inch, this is going to be a 3-inch tube. There are going to be some larger options out there on the market. If you want something a little bit bolder, you can take a look at these. But 3-inch, that's more or less the standard for a side step bar and it's gonna be pretty well in proportion with the rest of the Jeep, at least in my opinion. Round just means that this is going to be a round bar. Again, there are some other choices out there. A lot of the other ones might be oval. So again, it's really more of a preference than anything else, what you think looks the best, what you like the best on your Jeep. This is going to be a curved step bar and what that means is, right here on the end, it has a little bit of a return or a little bit of a curve that goes back into the Jeep which can make the step bar look a little bit more finished, in my opinion. The other option that you're going to find out there is just a straight step bar. It doesn't have this return. Just stops there, straight. Again, it's more of a preference thing than anything else, just what you like.Really, any bar that you purchase is going to have a nice, flat stepping surface up on the top here. This one's gonna be plastic. It has some texture to it, so it's going to help you grip. Whether your feet are in the mud, the snow, the rain, whatever it is, you're gonna have a nice, solid stepping surface. One of the other things I do wanna point out about these, that's a little different from some of the other ones on the market, is that the ends are fully welded. So this is a metal end on here. It does have a little bit of a rubber plug in the center of it, but it is a welded metal end where some of the other ones are going to just have a plastic end cap on there. So personally, I like this. This is going to be a really solid step. Looks good, works well as a step and it's going to be fairly inexpensive compared to some of the other choices out there. These come in at right around $300 for a pair. Now, if you are looking at some of the other choices, some of them will be a larger step. More material there, you'd expect them to be more expensive. Some of them are going to be a stainless steel material which can be nice, especially if you live in an area where they put a lot of salt on the road in the winter like we do. These can tend to get a little bit rusty, so stainless steel can help with that. This is regular steel. The stainless can be a little bit pricier as well.So like we said, these are gonna be very easy to get bolted up to the side of your Jeep. One out of three wrenches. Let's show you how to do it.Man: Tools required for this installation: A 3/8ths drive with an extension, a 10-, 13- and 16-millimeter socket, 10-millimeter wrench, a 17-millimeter wrench, and optional is an impact. So, to start off, we're gonna be attaching our brackets to the inside of this pinch weld using these 10-millimeter bolts and nuts. Now I've already staged it with a washer on both sides. So let's go ahead and get these mounted up.All right, so as I said, we're just gonna slide this bracket into place and start our hardware. Now, I'm gonna do one side at a time, slip the washer on, followed by this nyloc nut.Just get a couple of threads started here. Swing that back up.Get our other bolt in, with the washer and that other nut.And then I have my impact here with a 10-millimeter on both sides. All right, now moving on to the rear, this tab we wanna make sure is pointing forward because this bracket right here will mount up to it next. So let's go ahead and get this hardware started. It's the same 10-millimeter with a washer, and a 10-millimeter nut.All right, now we're gonna bring this rear bracket into place and we're gonna take this 13-millimeter bolt with a lock washer and washer and go ahead and start it into this threaded hole right into our body. All right. And you can see that that lined up perfectly with that tab. So we're just gonna put our 16-millimeter bolt with a washer and nut on the inside. So that's a 16-millimeter bolt head with a 17-millimeter nut on the back side.Let me turn up my impact here a little bit. Then I'll finish tightening up that top bolt here.So it's basically the same steps on the forward mount as well and you can see that everything is clearly labeled. So let's go ahead and get that 13-millimeter bolt with the lock washer and washer in place. Tighten that up.Now that's not fully tight. I just want to make sure I can get this bolt in with my nut and washer. So I'm gonna change up my tooling again, get that 16-millimeter socket. And then I'll tighten up that top mount all the way. Now, let's put our side step onto those brackets. These are tapped and threaded with some Rivnuts. Let's go underneath here.I'm gonna start these ones as well and then we can tighten them all up.One thing to note is that this thing can slide a little bit. We're gonna want it on the bottomost setting. So now, we're just gonna go around and make sure all of our hardware is tight, starting with these 10-millimeters.That's gonna wrap up the install on the passenger side. You're gonna wanna repeat all those steps to get the driver side installed. That's gonna wrap up my install of the RedRock 4x4 3-inch Round with the Curved Side Step for your Jeep JL.
