    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from, and this is my review of the RedRock 4x4 Billet Grille Inserts, available for all 2007 and up JKs. These are available in both the black finish that you see here and a polished finish. Today, we're gonna talk through the installation of these grille inserts, as well as some of the features and the construction. These grille inserts are for those of you who wanna change up the look of the front of your Jeep but keep that iconic seven-slot grille. A grille insert like this will not only change up the look of the front of your Jeep but also provide a little bit of protection to your radiator, which is important. Those large slots on the front of your Jeep can be a magnet for stones, and you can certainly get some damage to the radiator. This will help to protect against some of that. These are an aluminum grille insert, which means they are a high-quality product that are gonna hold up and last a long time, all while looking good and without breaking the bank. As I said, these are an aluminum grille insert and they're available in two different finishes, either the black that you see here or a polished finish. So you have a couple of different options, depending on what look you're going for on your Jeep. Something I really like about the fact that these are aluminum is, even if they do catch a stone throw and get a chip in them, they aren't going to rust like a mild steel will. I also really like the way that these install on the Jeep. It's a very solid installation. You don't have to drill anything, so it makes it very easy to install and they're gonna stay exactly where you put them. As far as the install, I will give these a very simple one out of three wrenches. To be in the process, you'll remove the six clips across the top of your grille and then give it a pull to remove it from the Jeep. From there, it's simply a matter of laying down the grille inserts upside down. Lay your grille face down on top of it, and then use the included hardware to sandwich the grille between your new insert and the bracket that's included. Once all of the hardware is bolted down and these are securely in place, you simply reinstall the grille onto the Jeep by pushing the lower clips in place, and then reattaching the six upper clips. The whole installation won't take you more than an hour and you won't need any specialty tools, just some traditional hand tools. RedRock 4x4 is known for making a high-quality product at a budget cost, and these are no different. The finish on these, the way that they're built, the way that they look when they're installed on the Jeep is all top notch. However, these will save you a couple dollars over some of the other brands on the market. So, I think that if you like this style, if you're looking for a grille insert like this, the RedRock 4x4 ones are definitely a good option. So, if you wanna change up the look of the front of your Jeep but you don't wanna get rid of that iconic seven-slot grille, adding a set of grille inserts like this is a great option. These ones are going to be very high quality and well-built, all while being a little bit less expensive than some of the other options on the market. So, that's my review of the RedRock 4x4 Billet Grille Inserts, fitting all 2007 and up JKs, that you can find right here at

How do you open the hood with these installed?

        • With the RedRock 4x4 Black Billet Grille Inserts installed, you would open the hood with the same methods as stock, releasing the two rubber latches, and then using the release between the hood and the grille.

Drilling Required? I know it says this bolts on, but do you need to drill holes to secure the bolts into the grille? I'm debating between this insert and another mesh-style one which DOES require drilling. I'm a new owner, and am looking for an easy install. 1 answer

            Hard to install

The quality of the product is excellent. However, the design is poor. It takes a lot of profanity to install. Screws and nuts are so small it takes hours to install. I actually lost one screw and nut. Someone must count the exact number you get verses giving you a few extra.

            Looks good but......

Read the reviews, these things are a pain to install. They are also inconsistent in size, one may be a little smaller, one a little bigger, etc and the mounting holes line up differently on each one. Not the best design for installation at all. Also, the photo does not accurately depict what these actually look like.

5 2009 Wrangler - MDS Installation Time: Afternoon

            First Mod

Nice look and helps protect radiator. Installation went easier with two people to hold bracket when screwing in bolt. Brackets themselves seem to be of good quality. Cons: the screws seemed to be made of very soft metal. Installation took a couple of hours. Screws started to rust after a couple of weeks and decided to cover with enamel paint to prevent further deterioration.

            Worth the Struggle

We wanted a "rock proof" protection for the radiator and these inserts are the answer. Be prepared for a difficult installation! The bolts and nuts are small and in our kit several of the self locking nuts would not tread on to the bolt because the locking material was applied to the start of the thread. The biggest defect in the kit we installed is that the bracket ends are bent at 90 degrees; while the tapper of the Jeep grill is closer to 30 degrees meaning that the bracket ends simply dug into the plastic as torque was applied to the nut. I used a vise and screwdriver to bend the ends to about 30 degrees which made installation much easier (the brackets fit closer to the grill at the very start) and probably resulted in a tighter contact with the grill. The defective nuts were resolved on the workbench by forcing a same size threaded rod through the self locking material to clear the way for the bolt that was supplied. The attached picture tells the rest of our story.

            Design needs revisions

Each grill installs individually, and the fit for some of the openings was inconsistent. Also the design puts black Phillips Head screws facing out. If the paint on these chip they start to rust QUICKLY. Can be fixed with touch up paint, but if quality were better you wouldn’t have to.

4 2018 Wrangler - VicH Installation Time: Afternoon

Need lots of patience and beer.

These inserts look GREAT when installed. Note that there is a difference top to bottom. Did not notice this at first which made the first insert very difficult. The brackets could be a little wider which would make the install MUCH easier. Also the screw heads, which are phillips, are very cheap and not deep enough for a phillips #1-#2 or #3. Went to hardware store and purchased quality screws and nuts. Do yourself a favor and get better screws and nuts. I also hot glued the screws to the insert so we did not have to fumble with them during install. Need two people, not a one person job. Very long learning curve, and I am mechanically inclined. It is a six pack job. I would purchase again.

After installation the grille looks awesome. The fit was a little off and was kinda a pain to install. But, if you have a mechanical mind and skills you can work it out.

            Look really nice

These Grill inserts look really nice when they're in. They were a little bit tricky to get centered and inserted at first, but after a couple the other five went in pretty easy. However I do have to touch up the paint, it chipped very easily while putting the inserts in and tightening the screws rub off paint.

            Nice Product

I was very pleased with the RedRock Black Billet Grille Inserts. I will say that it was a bit tedious installing them due to the same size of the screws which came with this package. This is truly the only part of the install which took any amount of time but once I got the hang of things and developed a system which worked well everything came together nicely. The final results look amazing. I'd definitely recommend this product to anybody as it's an easy way to add some character to your Jeep.

RedRock 4x4 Black Billet Grille Inserts No Thanks

Would not recommend. You must have childlike fingers to install. After 20 minuets of holding the grill, holding the grill inserts and trying to fit the inserts to the grill while trying to tighten the Philips head screw and hold the lock nut and bracket in place, I gave up and threw them back into the box. Aggravated and frustrated with the fit and method of retention of this item. I scratched my grill trying to install. In addition, it seemed near impossible to have the retention brackets align with the one on the left or right. This is aesthetics, however they are visible through the grill and grill insert.
